Stick Or Twist? Celtic Have A Call To Make, And The Clock Is Ticking
Celtic’s interim management duo of Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney made it three domestic wins on the spin at the weekend - racking up 11 goals in the process - but will wee see them back in the dugout after the international break? With no updates from the club on the search for Brendan Rodgers’ successor, fans are growing increasingly anxious about who will take the reins as we head into a crucial part of the campaign. While O’Neill’s popularity remains sky-high, most accept it’s not a long-term solution, but will the club make a move over the next fortnight? Talk around Wilfried Nancy (currently head coach of Columbus Crew in MLS) has intensified, while Kjetil Knutson, Kieran McKenna, and others remain firmly in the frame. With the temperature at boiling point, the club simply has to get this one right. Over to you, Celtic! 🎙️ Join a full squad of Tino, James, Mif, & Paddy for this one as they cover all this and more on the latest Celtic Exchange Weekly. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? An early goal by Johnny Kenny put the Bhoys one up at the break before Tierney doubled the lead, with late goals from Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels putting some gloss on the scoreline against a struggling Kilmarnock side. With Hearts only able to draw with Dundee United earlier in the day the result means we’re now just seven points adrift at the top of the table with a game in hand, and Derek McInnes’ side will now be feeling the pressure that little bit more. We now head in to the final international break of the calendar year, and it may well be that there’s a new man at the helm when we return - but either way it was another good day for interim manager Martin O’Neill who’s now registered three straight domestic wins since his surprise return to the club. 🎙️Join Tino & Mif for this one as they cover today’s important league win at Celtic Park. The hugely popular Irishman has brought some belief back - among players and fans alike - in the short time since his return, but with the club making moves to appoint a permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers, will Sunday's clash with Kilmarnock be a final farewell for O'Neill. If so then he'll be determined to go out on a high as the Bhoys look to claw back what's currently a 9 point lead for Hearts at the top of the table. The immediate challenge is to lift the group following the disappointing defeat i Denmark, but if history tells us anything it's that there's no better man that O'Neill to do so. 🎙️ Join Tino & Greg for this one as they look ahead to Celtic's clash with Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. The hosts had won three Europa League games on the bounce going into this one but with O'Neill at the helm we headed into Matchday 4 with renewed confidence following his dramatic return last week. That confidence was obliterated however in an 8 minute first half spell which saw us go in three down at the break and from there on in we had a mountain to climb. Reo Hatate's penalty added some credibility to the scoreline but the night was made notably worse by what looks to be a worrying injury for young Callum Osmand. A sour note to top off what was already a miserable night on the road. 🎙️ Join Tino & James for this one as they rake over the coals of Celtic's latest Euro nightmare! And with four points from nine the Bhoys will be looking to pick up an important result on the road as they aim to stay on course for the knockouts stages. Martin O’Neill will forever be linked with this trophy due to Celtic’s unforgettable run to Seville in 2003, and guiding the current side into the latter stages would be a fitting chapter - whether he’s here to see the job through or not. Fresh from his exploits against Rangers, Callum Osmand replaces the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers in the squad and he and fellow in-form strike partner Johnny Kenny will relish the chance to prove what they can do on the European stage. Celtic Exchange Weekly: Donny No Dae That - Osmand Shines Bright In A Wild Week For Celtic
If you were a short story writer, you’d struggle to dream up anything more fantastical than the real-life drama that’s unfolded at Celtic Park over the past seven days. Shock resignations, dramatic statements, a returning hero - and that was just Monday! Since then, we’ve seen passionate fan protests, a swashbuckling win over Falkirk, the long-awaited release of the fan survey, and even a first look at the new stadium banners. And if all that wasn’t enough, Martin O’Neill returned to the dugout for his first Glasgow Derby in over 20 years - and, in classic O’Neill fashion, led the Bhoys to victory on a high-energy afternoon at Hampden Park. Callum Osmand rightly stole the headlines on the big occasion, but he wasn’t alone. A number of his teammates deserve huge credit for showing the kind of fighting spirit that’s been missing for much of the season as they played they battled their way into next month's final. At this rate, who knows what the next few weeks and months will bring? For now, though, let’s enjoy the sight of a proper Celtic team returning on the park - and look ahead to another massive couple of fixtures in the days to come. 🎙️ Join Tino, James and Asim as they break down all of this and more on the latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? Now, after being handed his debut by Martin O’Neill in midweek, the 19-year-old has fired Celtic into the League Cup Final - scoring a goal he’s since described as “the happiest moment of his life.” It was a brilliant day at Hampden under O’Neill’s leadership, and the returning hero deserves huge credit once again for getting the best out of Osmand, Auston Trusty, Callum McGregor, and others when their team needed them most. Like Osmand, it’s been a whirlwind week for O’Neill too - but right now, there’s no one else we’d rather see steering the Celtic ship. It may only be two wins in four days, but it feels like so much more, as Celtic finally look to get their season back on track. 🎙️ Join Tino and Conor for this one as they reflect on a big day for Martin O’Neill’s Celtic at the National Stadium. The returning hero has faced Rangers no fewer than 27 times as Celtic manager, and remarkably, it’s now over 25 years since his first encounter - the unforgettable 6–2 game back in August 2000. We’d all gladly take a repeat of that scoreline as the Bhoys look to retain the League Cup they lifted against the same opponents just under a year ago. Both sides, meanwhile, will be desperate to serve up something far more exciting than uninspiring stalemate that marked the first derby of the season. O’Neill and his assistant Shaun Maloney have some big decisions to make regarding their starting XI, but they’ll take confidence from Wednesday night’s performance against Falkirk - arguably Celtic’s best display of the campaign so far. 🎙️ Join Tino, James and Greg as they cover all the key talking points ahead of Sunday’s all-important semi-final at Hampden. After a whirlwind couple of days, Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney finally got down to work as Celtic faced Falkirk at Celtic Park on Wednesday night. Before kick-off, protests continued outside the main doors at Celtic Park as fans made clear their ongoping copncerns about how the club is currently being run, but once the whistle blew, all focus turned to the football - and to the returning O’Neill. That renewed sense of purpose was evident on the pitch too, with Celtic playing faster, sharper, and more directly than we’ve seen in some time. The Bhoys went about their business with a confidence and efficiency that set the tone for what could be an exciting spell under the interim management team. With league leaders Hearts dropping points, the gap at the top now stands at six - a welcome boost on a good night for the champions. It all leaves O’Neill and his backroom team with a few big calls to make ahead of Sunday’s trip to Hampden… but we’ll get to that in due course. 🎙️ Join Tino & Asim as they recap an eventful night under the lights at Celtic Park. And make no mistake its a win they thoroughly deserved for the effort and character shown throughout the game. The early injuries to Kelechi Iheanacho and Alistair Johnston piled extra pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ side, who haven't had their troubles to seek in recent weeks. But to their credit, they responded superbly to those setbacks and eventually took full control against the Austrian champions. Special praise goes to goalscorers Liam Scales and Benji Nygren, while Arne Engels offered a timely reminder of just how influential he can be at the heart of Celtic’s midfield.
