Change my Opinion: Minimum Wage laws are Evil

Would you look at that? We're back at it. Back at what we do best. Controversy! No jokes aside, I am confident that this episode will be misperceived. Most would not even consider the data presented because, hey, the whole conforming to the narrative bias; I get it honestly, I understand. But for those of you who still have a clear mind and a conscience. The 2019 CBO report estimates that raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025 would result in the loss of approximately 1.3 million jobs. The numbers could be substantially higher if companies moved significantly toward outsourcing more jobs to less expensive labor markets outside the country. The net outcome of an increased minimum wage might also be many overqualified workers taking minimum wage positions that would ordinarily go to young or otherwise inexperienced workers. But on the other hand, proponents of raising the minimum wage estimate that a much larger number of individuals and families will move out of poverty if they earn more money. A related potential benefit is a projected reduction in the need for federal and state government expenditures on financial aid for poor and low-income individuals. So which side is correct? What is even the proper stance here? Is there even a right stance? What do the economics say? I will try to stay apolitical, I promise. In today’s episode, we will delve into exactly that and more. As always, Thank You so much for taking the time in listening as well as reading this.
