Can You Be Helpful?

Hello, what a beautiful day it is here in Michigan today. I am so glad that I was able to soak up some sun rays (say that 10 times fast). Today we chat about how we can do something good for our office, our staff, or our doctors right now. I’m helping to host a webinar event on Wednesday at 4:30 with a friend of mine Austin Brown, he works with CG financial and he has invited a co-worker and two people that he works with a Foster Swift, so we’re going to get expert advice on what to do about the CARES ACT/ PPP and retirement advice. They’re basically going to be our google translate, plus I told them that it’s a requirement that they’re not boring!

Did that first bit throw you off a little? What can we do that’s good for our office, our staff or our doctors. I know, you must be thinking I’m going a little crazy, because you’re here for help to get out of where you work, but hear me out. When you’re applying to new positions and the hiring manager calls your previous/ current office you want to leave a good taste in their mouth. You want to leave on good terms, so now is the time to shine. I’m suggesting that IF you’re allowed, to go into work and do some gardening, plant some flowers, pull some weeds, pick up some trash around our office buildings. But this is what’s going to allow you to leave on good terms. If you’re able to, this is going to depend on the state that you live in, if you can or can not do this. Make sure that if you are able to go that you’re social distancing though.

...

One of the last things that you can personally do is to help out other small businesses, share them with your friends. When you see someone on social media advertising that they’re a personal fitness coach, or they’re selling work out clothes or selling make-up, rather than just ignoring them, try to share that with someone who may be interested in the items/ products. Help out your friends and the side gig’s that they have going on. Here is also my plug for asking if you could be so kind and share this blog or the podcast with someone else who you think may be benefited from it. I’m doing my part by giving you my course at 90% off right now. In this course it will guide you through how to update your resume, cover letter, references and assist you in your interviewing process. If you’re not interested in making your own resume, that’s no problem, I have that service at 50% off during this pandemic as well. I’ll create a bad-ass resume for you, just shoot me over an email and I’ll get right on it!

Also, have you reached out to any of your coworkers since you’ve been off? Some of them might not be doing as well as you are, now is a great time to reach out. They may have a ton of stress on them and a simple hand out (figuratively obviously, nobody wants the Rona) could mean more to them then they’ll ever know.

Thank you for being here and just know that I do really appreciate you! Until next week, stay safe and visit me on

Here's How to Take on Negativity and Come out Positive.

Hello and good day,

Today I'll be talking about how to use someone's negativity to fuel your fire and tips to avoid the negativity!! Have you ever been in this situation? Where someone has told you that you can't do something or that you shouldn’t? But you know that this is something that you WANT to do and that you can do.

Imagine how one match or one flick of a lighter can start a forest fire. What fire will you be starting today?

What are these negative Nancy’s intending for you? To hurt your feelings? Or to protect theirs? That is the real point here. Do you really think that it’s their goal to hurt you? I think that most people are on this earth to do good. Sometimes we get sidetracked in life with how good WE want to feel. Sometimes we project our greatest fears which sometimes gets clouded with the fact that someone else is doing or may do it better than what you can do. How can we stay focused amongst all of this?

When I was told that I shouldn’t step into the office manager role when my office manager was leaving, I was so hurt.

Other people’s energy or vibrations can and sometimes do have an impact on you, right? Here are some tips to help keep you up when people directly around you, well, kind of suck!
Tip #1 I like to have positive thoughts around me.

Tip #2- Take ownership of your thoughts. I recently read the book “A Mind At Home With Its Self” By Byron Katie (this book is free to listen to on Hoopla, all you need is a library card)

Tip #3 Thank them. Be thankful for the haters, the people who say you cannot do something that you know you can.

Tip #4- Become resilient, the definition of resilient is “the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity.”

I want to offer to you all my digital course Career Upgrades to you at 90% off. I believe that this is what I can do for each and every one of you. I’m doing this because I know this is going to be a time that really hurts for a lot of you and I hope this can help you financially at least. Do You Interview The Interviewer? You Should!

Welcome Back,

How prepared are you during an interview? What kind of questions do you bring to the table? Typically people have “up their sleeve” an easy question that could get answered during the interview. If your question that you always ask in an interview is "how is the office culture here?" But the manager starts off by saying “here we’re a really close-knit family, we all really enjoy the presence of each other. The doctor treats us to a half-day each month, we have our staff meeting then we get to fill each other in about what's going on in our lives. We like the front and back office to be a great cohesive team. We’ve asked each of our staff members what they didn’t like about their previous offices and found that this half-day is a great start to the longevity of our staff members.”

So your question gets answered and now you’re thinking in your hear “Oh shit, that was my question to ask, not what am I suppose to ask.” Now you haven’t listened to anything the interviewer said in the last 20 seconds and you. Not really a great thing the happen, right? Well, I’m proposing to you, that you print off the fun sheet I have for you. Fill in the blanks, it will show that you’ve done your homework and that you really do want this job. It's not just any job that you will take!

Here are some of the questions that you should be asking in an interview.

What is your favorite part about coming to work here? / What makes you passionate about working here?

What percentage of the time will I be working on my own or with a team?

What traits are you looking for in an employee?

How often will I get a review? / Will I get feedback often, to know if I need to improve anything?

Is this a new position?

How long does your staff usually stay?

Is there anything that we haven’t talked about or that you haven’t asked me that we should talk about?

The fun sheet is detailed and it will show that you really do care and that you want to keep everything written and in your head and on paper. You know, sometimes the interviewing process takes a while, it could be weeks or months possibly. You may forget what they tell you, you won’t want to look like you don’t care, plus if you’re interviewing at multiple places, you for sure want to keep your facts straight! This fun sheet will help you to keep everything organized.

Comment below or send me an email at careerelevationce@gmai.com and let me know what your story is, how you got to be where you’re at, where you lead your team. Always remember that you can do anything you try to do.  Marie Forleo says it best with "Everything is figure-out-able."

Next Monday’s podcast is all about how you can overcome if someone is trying to keep you down. Use their negativity to fuel your fire! You can do anything for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 day, 1 week, keep pushing and you’ll make it to where you want to be.
I’ll see you next week and don’t forget to subscribe in the link below so you’re always getting the newest information and I’m also offering 10% off any service when you do so, which I will personally email to you, this offer is good for March and April 2020. No More Ghosting!

Have you heard of ghosting before? Urban dictionary defines it as When a person cuts off all communication with their friends or the person, with zero warning or notice beforehand. You'll mostly see them avoiding friend's phone calls, social media, and avoiding them in public. This could be for a meet-up, interview, or even a date.

I have been ghosted, for all three examples and it really sucks! Ghosting is happening more and more these days and I’m here to help you avoid ghosting someone for an interview. I’m here today to help you not create a super awkward position for you or the other party involved when you’re not interested in an interview.

Imagine if you have a scheduled interview with who you think is the hiring manager of a business, you look into the business more after your phone interview and you find out that you’re not interested in an interview, so you ghost them. Well, now imagine if you do this, but it wasn’t just the hiring manager that you were speaking with, it was an employment agency. This agency could work with hundreds of companies and now, you’re out of the running for every. Single. One of them! That’s a heavy price to pay for not wanting to work with one company isn’t it?! You’ve just burnt that bridge and you won’t be able to get another interview with those hundreds of local jobs in the community.

If you’re not interested in working with this company. You want to make sure to let them know that you are declining the offer. Otherwise, they may think that you’ll be interested in the future, or that you need some more time. By actually stating that you’re declining the offer and choosing to go with another company will give them the information that they’ll need and they will probably thank you for the email.

If you're looking for a way out of your current job. I've been there and I'm here to lend you a helping hand to get out. When you click the link below, it will lead you to your all-inclusive digital course-Career Upgrades. This online course will allow you to invest in your present and future career. It will help you by enhancing your resume and cover letter as well as heighten and expand your interview skills. You Already Make Enough Money, Why Not Just Take It Easy?

Hey, it's episode 20 and welcome back!!

What do you do when your family or friends tell you that you don't need to be going this fast in life? That you're already working enough, you're already far enough in your career for your age.  That you already make enough, why not just take it easy?
If you're interested in upgrading your career, but these people are trying so hard to hold you back, tell them to screw off! Seriously, do it! If you want to be a bigger or stronger leader or to make more money, then do it, I'm here for you!
Read this quote two times, " Someone who has achieved more than you will never judge you for wanting more." -Amy Porterfield. Well, she said it on her podcast but she said she doesn't know where it originated if you know, make sure to fill me in so I can give credit to that person.

Did you read that twice?

I want to take you on Mrs. Frizzle's Magic Schoolbus for a minute. Think back to high school and your favorite subject, it was probably your favorite because you were good at it, right? You got compliments on the work you did, how fast or how efficient you did you work, that's what helped make it your favorite subject, right? Thinking back to that Math, Science, English or Home Economics class. When I think back I remember in my home ec class, we were making quilts and I was super proficient and finished mine first. I got lots of compliments and questions as to how I did it so fast and so good. Well, I didn't just stop there, as I'm sure you didn't either when you were a rockstar in your classes. You would continue to do just as good of a job in these subjects after hearing these compliments. Well wanting to level up in your career is basically the same as high school, but we're getting paid.
Our teachers and bosses both would encourage us to do better but the difference between then and now is now, our family or friends will get in our way with negative comments.

Why do you think we get these negative comments now? It goes back to that quote from earlier  " Someone who has achieved more than you will never judge you for wanting more." It's time to confront the person or people who are trying so hard to hold you back or just let them slowly fade away. I can tell you that as a business owner I've gravitated towards friends who have a business or who are creating them. I look for the good comradery and always positivity.

Now, this doesn't mean to turn into a flower, but it does mean to recognize and understand other people's fear that they're pushing onto you. So stop listening to their negative fears that they'll never conquer and listen to your head and your heart and keep it up, girlfriend!

You're looking for a way out of your current job.

Career Upgrades is here for you from the start all the way through to the follow-up and acceptance to your dream job.

Still not convinced? Well, you can always continue to get free tips from this podcast until you’re ready. From there you can watch your dreams soar and exhilarate your confidence.

Why Do You Need A Mentor?

Welcome Back! Once upon a time, there was a petite young lady with the best ambitions and intentions of creating a business, so she asked a fairy godmother how to do so. She told the fairy godmother that she has so many good ideas, but she doesn’t know how to start. The fairy godmother told the young lady to follow her heart. Okay, we’re not here for that kind of storytime. But this is how my story starts, I did want to start a business but I didn't know how to start, at the time I was working in a dental office and I thought that I wanted to be a dental consultant. I went to a website that listed a whole bunch of dental consultants, I scrolled through the photos looking for the youngest person to reach out to. At the time I was 22, so I wanted someone who I could relate to and who was doing this is pretty much real-time, not someone who has been doing this for 30 years and so many things have changed. I reached out to my fairy godmother- Grace Rizza, I told her how I found her, she was flattered. Grace owns a marketing business and I’ll tell you that she sure is fabulous at what she does! She went on to ask me lots and lots of questions as a fairy godmother should get all the facts before giving advice.  I remember her asking me when was the last time I failed and literally my response was, IDK I really try hard at what I do, I cannot remember when I failed. I thought I aced that answer, sadly I failed that answer…. The correct answer is today, yesterday, last week, sometime recently. Why fail you may ask, well it shows that you’re trying so hard that you fail, you do it again and you fail again and again and again until you become resilient and you come out on top, every time. Failing shows that your willing to risk it all, to not be correct 100% of the time, but you’re willing to learn from your mistakes, find out how to fix it for the next time and then come out on top and win. Grace also said one of my favorite quotes to me that I don’t think I’ll ever forget “You’re smart if you learn from your own mistakes but you’re a genius if you learn from others mistakes”. I am always asking people for advice, I take bits of how they won and lost, I think about how this will affect me and what I’m doing and what I’m working on and I help my self to those mistakes that they made. I do enjoy having Grace as a mentor of mine, she inspires me and is so truthful with what she does. Who here has a mentor? You don’t have to be young like me to be a protege. Also, you can be young like me to be a mentor. With all this time on the earth, you are more experienced than someone at something. Who really cares about being a mentor or even having one for that matter, Fair godmother’s aren’t real anyway! In life having a mentor and being a mentor can be a big piece of the puzzle to success. Having a mentor is like getting help from someone who has been through the field, walked around in their muck boots and then rinsed them off and put a bow on them before wearing them to town. They have failed and prevailed and they can share that information with you to help you be the genius that you really are. Now, who is ready to go find a fairy godmother? See ya on the flip side!

How To Create Your Elevator Pitch and How You Use It.

Welcome back, as I was getting ready to put today's podcast together I noticed that the last podcast was titled "Feeling Sick and Headed To An Interview", it was quite comical because I was sick last week! But I'm back baby and I'm ready to help a sista' (or brotha' ) out!

Today is all about the elevator pitch and why you need to create one. So many people have such a shity answer to the interview question "Tell me about yourself". People don't know what to say, they don't know how much to say or they word vomit all over the place. Last month I had someone tell me more about her personal life than I probably would have ever found out from an employee after working with them for 6 months. It was way too much word vomit. I also hear a lot of, "I don't know what you want to know," and they just wait for me to say something. THIS, this is exactly why having an elevator pitch is perfect.
There are four main points to an elevator pitch

1- Who are you

2-What do you do

3- How are you unique

4-Who does it affect

Obviously, if you're in a job interview, you don't have to say who you are. What do you do, this could be a simple as your job title. How are you unique, here is where you can add an additional sentence or two to show them how you are unique. Lastly, who does it affect, who does your work affect? Only your work, only your coworkers or your patients/clients, your whole company or a company that you want to work with?

Example of an elevator pitch for someone in an interview. "I am a registered dental assistant, I currently work with children and special needs and I love what I'm doing. When I was a kid I was terrified of going to the dentist, so I can sympathize with the patients and help them stay calm. My whole goal as an assistant is to create an environment that is safe and fun, one that the patient or patient's parents will tell their friends so that we get more referrals."

This captures all four of them easily and quickly. I added that my goal is to help get referrals which will also generate more cash for the business. I've also described the perfect dental assistant that every patient wants to have.

Some tips when you're creating your own elevator pitch is to keep it short, sweet and to the point, you want your pitch to be under three minutes usually. Have fun with it, don't worry about keeping to a script. If you need help remembering just remember 1-who 2-what 3-unique 4-affect and you'll be golden. One additional tip that I have for you can really put a cherry on top of this answer. Go to the job description, website or work moto and pull keywords from there and use those keywords in your elevator pitch. This will make them think "she really gets us here, I think she could really fit in here".

No more need to sweat the interview question "Tell me about yourself", you're going to knock it out of the park. Feel free to let me know what your elevator pitch sounds like, send it to me in an email, text, Facebook message, I'd be happy to listen in and tweak it if needed.

Until next week, enjoy your day and keep living your best life!

Tell Me About Yourself- the Dreaded Interview Question

Tell me about yourself is one of the most asked questions in interviews. In this podcast today you’ll learn how to curate your answer to get you the best results.

Here are three questions to ask yourself to create your curated answer or elevator pitch. This question is really asking yourself three questions.

1-Where are you within your career

2- How did you get there and where will you end up.

3- Why are you passionate about this position.

Here is an example answer: [Listen in to hear the example]

Don’t go on about your personal life too much, but be personable. <<

Think about this as your 30-second pitch.

We talked about this last podcast- but it’s worth repeating several times so you don’t miss it. Do your research before going to an interview. Refresh yourself by looking at the job posting again. Look at the website, Facebook, Linkedin of the business and use keywords that are applicable to what your job would require from you. If there is information on what the company needs help with, try to tie this into your elevator pitch.

Once you come up with your perfect elevator pitch, feel free to email it to me at careerelevationce@gmail.com or PM me on FB, I’d love to chat with you about it!

Tips On How To Get Hired

I just went through a round of hiring, listen in on some of the experiences that I've had, and how you can avoid making some of the same mistakes. Let's get you one step closer to getting hired, this week!

Over the last 10 days I received about 200 hundred applications, I called 51 people, 17 of those answered. I scheduled 15 interviews, I had 7 (No Call No Shows) NCNS,2 people said that it was too far and one person called me to tell me that she got a job. So if you get called and show up to an interview, based on these statistics, you’ve got a pretty good chance of getting a job. From 200 resumes down to 8 interviews, those odds are pretty great!

What I was looking for in a resume to select those people was constancy with a job. However I didn’t factor in large gaps in employment, I assume that the person was either very ill, taking care of someone ill or on maternity leave. So those who are stay at home mom or dads were defiantly not excluded. I actually saw two people’s resumes that said they’re mothers looking to get back into the workforce. One person actually listed it as a job and described what she did, I thought that was very cute! Her list should have been much longer than it was though.

Here are the take always, look good, be flexible with your interview availability, change your stupid VM’s, bring your resume, reference and cover letter if you’ve got one, show up 15 minutes early and research interview questions ahead of time. If this summation looks hard, you’re in luck because I’ve got a course for you! I’ll link it in the comments below at the end of the video. In this digital course, it will help you with upgrading your resume, references and glorify your cover or review letter. It will assist in your clothing options with links to clothing options. This course comes with tons of interview questions and good answers that you can use yourself. But wait there’s more, it also can help with when and how you should follow up with your interview afterwords. And if you buy within the next two minutes, just kidding, nothing happens, other than you get access to the full course. You don’t have to wait for any part of it. It’s self-paced and you can go through any section that you’d like to go through. If you’ve got questions about this podcast or the digital course it’s self, please feel free to email me and I’ll be happy to help with whatever I can help with! https://careerelevation.mykajabi.com/products/career-upgrade

It’s been a wonderful morning, day, night (whatever time it is to you), cheers to you!

Buying Interview Clothes on Amazon. Bonus: Cheaper Gifts For The Holidays

Welcome Back to the podcast!

Today’s podcast is about shopping on Amazon! This episode will help you out in two ways, one with purchasing clothing for your interview and the second, helping you with purchasing holiday gifts! I buy most of my clothes on Amazon, probably 80%+. I hear people all the time tell me that every time they purchase clothing from Amazon they have to return them, so I’m confident that with these tips, it will be able to help you out!

I’ve got three things that I always look at when ordering. Plus two bonus tips for purchasing gifts/ items (other than clothing). You've gotta listen in to hear these! Or you can wander on over to the blog (link below) to read more about the tips!

The biggest take away here is that Amazon isn’t always selling you an item, it could be from a plethora of resellers. Although if you shop Amazon Wardrobe, I do believe that this is only Amazon. They do buy items straight from China, but they also have contracts with large name brands that are real and authentic as well.

As much as I love talking about shopping and savings, I’d like to tell you about my digital course and the savings here. The Career Upgrades course is full of juicy information that will help you upgrade your resume and cover letter. It will help increase your interview skills and it even gives you clothing options with Amazon links to the clothing. This course is for those of you who are switching careers or transitioning into a new job, whatever that may mean for you.

I am offering 10% off to you if you refer a friend, either email or DM me their name and I’ll make sure that you receive 10% off or get a gift card back to you. You can infinitely stack these 10% or gift cards! This is one of the best deals you can find!

If you’re interested in getting your career change question answered, please email or PM me on Facebook. I’d love to sponsor your question here! I can keep your name 100% confidential or I can address you on here! Have a bomb.com day and I’ll meet you back here next Monday!

How To Have a Smooth Career Transition

Are you worried about making that career transition because you don’t know if you’ll fit in? You’re probably thinking back to when you had to change schools, or go from middle school to high school or high school to college and maybe you didn’t have the best experience.

Well, the good news is, we’re now grown, adults!! We can understand our emotions better, we can talk it out, and we can be more empathic. I totally get it, when transitioning into a new job, it can be rather terrifying, but take a few of these steps and implement them into your next transition, it will make the situation better.

One day, I will be known for the quote “I Love pushing people off the comfort cliff”. Seriously there is no better feeling (in my opinion) than thinking that you cannot do something, but you do it anyways and you succeed!

I was asked just the other day if I wanted to speak for our local Toastmasters Club in the speech contest. I could have done this year but I put it off because it’s something that scares me, so this year, I’m doing it!
I’m going to practice and practice and practice some more, it’s actually making my heart race a little extra right now, or maybe that’s all the coffee, either way, I will achieve this, even if I don’t go to the next round, I will feel success for attempting something that I feel is rather large.

?When was the last time that you didn’t want to do something, but you knew that you’re capable of doing it? If you cannot think of a time, then I challenge you to do so. Next time someone asks if you would partake in something and your very first response in your head is, I’m too scared, then pretty please, take that as a challenge and DO IT!

You will never know if the grass is greener on the other side if you don’t take that first step. When you’re applying, you’re walking to the fence that separates your grass from the grass on the other side. When you interview, you’re poking your head over the fence like Wilson from Tim The Toolman Taylor. Do you know what reference this is?! If you don’t I’ve attached a photo of him so you can see what I mean! Once you start that new job, I just imagine how green, soft and fluffy the grass is. Like when I dog finds that good spot on the grass, he rolls over and scooches his back all around, flailing back and forth. You know what I mean, right? That is some good grass. But you’ll never know if that grass is “Kentucky Blue Grass” Or “Crab Grass” until you venture over and through that fence.
