This is because we're trying to do something God has not asked us to do! What if it didn't have to be this way? Joshua is approaching the end of his life after being a pivotal leader of the nation of Israel. At his command, they had crossed the Jordan, captured all the cities and defeated most all the inhabitants of the Promised Land. In Joshua 23-24 we see his final speech to the leaders and people of the nation and it turns out that his mind is full of concern about the future generation’s fidelity and faithful constancy. He calls them to personal commitment to serve the LORD. This Sunday we will look at his concerns and seek to find encouragement for our own devotion to our Lord.
