Building Sustainable Innovation
Rethinking Education with Dr. Samson Tan

In today's episode I speak with Dr. Samson Tan, head of the Centre for Innovation in Learning at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore. The NIE is part of the Nanyang Technological University, the sole education institute for teachers in Singapore.

Samson graduated with a Doctor of Education from the University of Western Australia in 2007. His research interest is in educational innovation and transformation. Next to his role at NIE, he is a member of several executives boards, and figures as a keynote speaker on Innovation in Learning and Learning Technology.

Prior to joining the NIE, Samson was involved in the successful SkillsFuture movement of Singapore, which prepares the workforce of the city-state for the future. Here, Samson spearheaded the lifelong learning and workplace learning initiatives.

In this inspiring conversation, Samson shares his vision on forward thinking education models. These models look at education in radically different ways than our current system, and aim to stimulate those skills in students that are essential for the future. How do these models look like, and what does it mean to create "learner-centric" environments? Why is diversity a key to innovation, and how can it help us in finding what we really like?
