116: The Audacity (Games) of it all

January 2024
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Holiday break and the new year is off to a good start.  We find ourselves at the beginning of 2024 and we’re proud to feature the last installment of our 3-part interview series with David Crane, Dan Kitchen and Garry Kitchen where, over the course of three inter-connected interviews, we explore:

* Part 1 – Atari and the Activision years (audio in episode 114)
* Part 2 – the Absolute Entertainment years (audio in episode 115)
* Part 3 – the birth of their new development and publishing company – Audacity Games (audio in this episode)

The YouTube video for each panel is linked above if you’d like to watch the discussion as it happened.
It’s our hope that you enjoy this very special presentation and retrospective look at the long and storied history of Activision and the people behind the powerhouse that it became.  It was an honor being able to spend so much time (far more than originally planned) with these legends of the gaming industry and we hope it comes across the same.
Special thanks go to David Corrigan for placing his trust in us to research and deliver these three panel discussions at the Music City Multi Con.  This will go down as one of the highlights of the podcast and part of its legacy and we so appreciate this opportunity.

* Part 2 – the Absolute Entertainment years (audio in this episode)
* Part 3 – the birth of their new development and publishing company – Audacity Games (audio upcoming in episode 116- link will go live when the show is released)

114: Tires and Soap

July 2023
Summer here in KY marches on and we are finally able to get the July show out to everyone… in August. 🙂  Family and other commitments have to be juggled, but we’re here and we’re bringing the heat (bad pun, good use) for this episode, and we think you’ll feel the same.
First up we delve into project updates, some new Pinball news with Stern announcing Venom, the triumphant return of “Spend Brent’s Money” with some new soldering aid and general board repair tools and some interesting developments in the Atari console scene – both at the AtariAge Store and with a new multicart for the 7800 that has some pretty unique features.  Brent returns to the show car circuit with his 1LE and Whitney digs into his recent cabaret acquisitions.  And what does the show title have to do with anything?  Well, we weaved it all together somehow…we won’t let you down!
BUT WAIT – THERE’S MORE.

We are proud to partner with the Music City Multi Con to release the first in a 3-part panel series from the 2022 show featuring David Crane, Dan Kitchen and Garry Kitchen where, over the course of three inter-connected interviews, we explore:

We really appreciate the fans making the pilgrimage just to sit in with us – it means the world.
The MixLR chat was on fire and lots of questions/comments were coming in and it kept the show really lively. We had a great time with everyone who participated and look forward to doing it all again next year!

110: Give Up The Funk
Thanksgiving? √
Christmas? √
New Years? √
Valentines Day? √

Now that we’ve covered all the bases, it’s time to get back to business and talk about some sweet arcade and pinball action.  We’re honored to feature the Louisville Arcade Expo’s own Corey Stup and Joe Stith as they sit in with us to talk about one of our favorite times of the year!  The expo returns March 10th-12th 2023 and we’ll be talking about all the fun events, games and special guests that will be at the show!

We also catch up on hobby proceedings over the course of Holiday, talk about some gaming news, discuss a rumor surrounding a new diagnostic and play tool for Pac-Man boards and Whitney picks up some Arkanoid parts and takes delivery of his Blast City candy cabs.  We round out the show with some talk about the Vector Labs Signature Analyzer and CCPU Exorciser that Brent picked up, our newest round of travel tool talk (it should be a segment) and we cover the newest 2600/5200/7800 game drops over at the AtariAge store!

Oh – for all you AMSR fans, we open lots of Christmas presents and give up the funk with BT Express…. never in a million years did I ever expect that sentence to actually happen here for the show….

109: (the) Dude
We trust that November (and Thanksgiving for those that observe it) has treated everyone well.  We're talking project updates, non-updates, travel tools, some arcades that Brent visited on his recent trip to Gatlinburg TN and more.

To round out the crazy, the podcast was on the road in October at the Music City Multi-Con and we feature our fist in a series of panel recordings from the show.  This month we're featuring the "late night free-for-all" billed as "Podcasters Unhinged - Episode VI".  It was a fun and lighthearted dip into pop culture, pinball and a few other topics with Brent, David Corrigan (MCMC owner/organizer), Mike Vinikour (Stern Pinball) and Whitney.  We think you'll enjoy it!

Be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming panels from the show:

Brent interviewing Pinball artist John Youssi
Whitney interviewing David Crane, Garry Kitchen and Dan Kitchen - 3x sessions: Part 1 - the Activision years, Part 2 - the Absolute Entertainment years and Part 3 - Audacity Games
Q&A with Metal Jesus
Q&A with John Riggs
and more!

108: The David Corrigan Experience
Let's call this one the "After Summer Hiatus 2022 show" :)

We're back in the studio after a rather impromptu break over the Summer and catching up on life, projects, more life and toss in some arcade and pinball talk along the way.

Here’s a quick rundown on everything we talk about on the show:

*Brent fixes more games
*Travel tool pack update - the Milwaukee Packout
*Spinrite and hard drive recovery for arcade games
*The Retro Chip Tester Pro
*Whitney sells some games and picks up some cabarets
*Whitney goes "JAMMA strong" with some Sega Blast City candy cab purchases
*The MiSTercade
*The D3FMod IronClad+ (MiSTer mini-ITX add-on board)

As a bonus, we have a virtual sit-in with David Corrigan, owner/organizer of the Music City Multi Con, as he takes us through all the highlights of the 2022 version of the expo, taking place Oct. 28-30th, right outside of Nashville, TN.  We'll be there conducting some panels, playing pinball, cruising the vendor booths and having an all-around great time - we hope to see you there!

107: Canned Heat
Let's call this one the "Before Summer 2022 Hiatus" show :)

Yep, we admit it - the summer got away from us and we didn't get this episode out nearly as quickly as intended.  This one has been "in the can" for a couple of months, and we'll let you decide if we brought any heat... (insert wah wah sound here).

We cover a host of topics from microscopes to power supplies to Rally-X and Toy Story 4 from JJP. Even though the pinball reveal is old news at this point, I don't think our opinions are off the mark today, so give us a grade!

105: Friday Night at the 2022 Louisville Arcade Expo
Happy Father's Day to all the Arcade and Pinball Dads out there!

We are back with the Friday night livestream show straight from the floor of the 2022 Louisville Arcade Expo!  We've got an almost solid 4 hours of guests, banter and irreverent discussion on all things arcade, pinball, pop culture and whatever else came to mind that night!

We had the good fortune of some good friends of the show stopping by (Mike drove all the way from NEW HAMPSHIRE - 22 hours!!) to sit in and make the show sound 100x better than it normally does:

* Mike Thomas (he gives us an update on his mulit-Pac and Fluke kits)
* Jason Aaron
* Troy Gibbs
* Tayllor Lucas (who we've discussed in prior episodes - he's restoring a Taito Warp-1!)
* J. Patrick Tinnel (from Podcasserole)

We had a great time with everyone who participated and look forward to doing it all again next year.  Keep an eye out for the Saturday night livestream show to be posted in the feed soon, as we feature Mike Vinikour and Dwight Sullivan (from Stern Pinball), Buffet (of KLOV fame) and more, so stayed tuned as Ep. 106 won't disappoint and will totally be worth the wait!

104: The KLOV Kloset
It's the (hopeful) end of Winter weather here in the Bluegrass and that means the expo circuit is right around the corner.  In that vein, we feature a discussion about the upcoming 2022 Louisville Arcade Expo with organizers Corey Stup and Joe Stith and get amped up for the show - especially coming off of a two-year hiatus!

In addition, we review our gaming, pinball and hobby-related activities for the last month (Brent works on his Championship Sprint, Carnival King and his Tron dies) and Whitney has been busy 3D printing shelf spacers for the IKEA Billy bookcase, discusses the 3DS and WiiU eShop closure and puts a notch in his belt with a now-complete Activision patch collection(!!)

We continue our discussion on traveling tool storage, when buying "too many" parts is "too much", open the mailbag to respond to viewer feedback (and take some heat with some of it), and have a very eye (ear!?!?!)-opening discussion about Multimorphic's reveal of "Weird Al's Museum of Natural Hilarity" pinball and really put the whole "new pinball" topic on its edge.  Yeah - that was...unexpected.

103: Spiderman’s Breakfast
Just what does a Super Hero eat in-between rounds with Doc Ock, Electro and the rest of the Sinister Six?  I'm not sure we have a good answer for you, but we go there anyway.  This month we do an "accidental" fly-by on Spider Man: No Way Home while we discuss some of our monthly updates and happenings in this cold and icy winter of 2022.

Brent updates us on his quest for the perfect tool bag and carry solution, discusses some work he's doing to a Carnival King, finishes up his Championship Sprint and extolls the virtues of his ultrasonic cleaner for some of the RC truck work he's been doing on the side.  Whitney gets his first-ever cabaret game, buys some tool boxes, picks up a Vectrex, 3D prints some stuff and finally gets in his Analogue Pocket.

In addition, we cover the following:

* We dig into the do's/don'ts on servicing the K7000-series monitors
* We discuss a really nifty add-on to the Stern Insider Connected Platform
* We feature an update on the Retro Chip Tester that we started discussing on ep. 102
* The release of Rush Pinball by Stern

We truly save the best for last as we say goodbye to Lyman F. Sheats, Jr. amidst the tragic news of losing him on January 22nd, 2022.  Godspeed.

102: The Housecat
Just in the nick of time, we cross the finish line to round out 2021 and discuss what the past several months has been like for us here at the show.

As you know by now, we took a 3-month hiatus and we discuss that happening and what transpired that necessitated the break.  Thanks to everyone who noticed the break, reached out and asked if we were OK - we appreciate each and every one of you!

This episode is dedicated to Whitney's father, Housecat. Words will never be enough, but may the fishing be good every single day.

101: Maxine
Summer starts to draw to a close and we often find ourselves asking "just where did that time go?"  We'll discuss that topic on the show and detail what we wound up doing with our time through August 2021.  We'll detail some summer vacation travel (and finally playing some new pinball) along with some game repairs (Zookeeper...Zookeeper... Zookeeper anyone!?!) along with Brent working on his Nintendo VS. cabinet and a new Championship Sprint project.  We revisit the Multi-Pac topic with an exciting new development in the works as well as read some feedback from Episode 100.  There's a boatload of news to cover off on (Stern, Deeproot, CGC & Multi-Morphic all in one episode), but alas, we recorded just a couple days before the Stern Insider Connected announcement, so we'll talk about that in the Sept. 2021 show.

In case you were wondering about the episode banner, this show is dedicated to Maxine.  May she always guard the podcasting studio from on high.

Wherever you are in the world – we thank you for listening and hope that you and your family are safe and continue to be in good health.

100: Thank You For Being A Friend

It has finally happened – the BIG 100!  Yes – after almost eight (8!!!) years of classic arcade and pinball goodness, we’ve hit a podcasting milestone and we are so glad to be able to share this very special episode with our listener family.
This episode is a bit of a break from the norm – in that after our gameroom and hobby updates (which are brief this time around) we jump straight into the heart of the show and reminisce a good bit about the past 8 years under the umbrella of the BT brand and what it has meant to us.  We talk about our most memorable experiences with doing the show, discuss our top 3 favorite interviews over the past 99 episodes and even dig into our favorite show tropes that have taken on a bit of a life of their own since we first released episode 1 back in September 2013… yes… 2013…. amazing.
We also discuss some thoughts for some future plans for the show, and discuss how we can better involve you in the show community.
As a special treat, we are also re-running two of our favorite interviews from the prior years.  So, if you haven’t had the time (and let’s face it… who does?!?!) to go through our entire back catlog, then you are really in for a treat, as we reach back into the archives for the following:

* Brent’s interview with career game operator Jimmy Litsey (Episode #54 – April 2017)
* Whitney’s interview with legendary game designer David Crane (Episode #29 – May 2015)

We hope you enjoy the episode as much as we did recording it and we look forward to 100 more.
A special “thank you” goes to Grace Roberts for the new intro/outro bumpers as well!
