Our guest this week is author S.M. Sykes.

S.M. Sykes never saw himself as a writer, facing struggles with English classes in school. Even his wife, who doubles as his editor, can attest to occasional challenges with organizing his thoughts. However, despite these obstacles, he discovered a passion for storytelling that he couldn’t ignore. Beginning with his debut novel, Eyes of Blue in 2018 at the age of 38, he found the genesis of his stories in a simple idea that sparked in his mind. As the narrative unfolded, it took on a life of its own, leading to the ongoing series that began with Eyes of Blue and continues with his current project, Loss of Blue. With Loss of Blue, he aims to weave together the threads of his previous works into a conclusion that is both profound and satisfying.
Balancing a full-time job with his writing endeavors, which include advertising and marketing his work, has proven challenging. Yet, his motivation lies not in financial gain or replacing his day job but in the satisfaction of sharing his ideas with readers.
Looking ahead, he remains focused on his writing journey, eager to explore where it may lead. He invites others to join him on this adventure by checking out his books and sharing their thoughts.

“I started writing at 30 years old with a newborn and a fresh divorce. I had tried everything the way my family wanted me to do it – and I saw where that got me. I was a successful stockbroker who dreaded every day of work. I just couldn’t picture myself still in that chair at 60. Well… Here I am at 64 and boy, am I glad I walked away.
Sure, the money was tight for a long time but when I look back at the past 34 years here’s what I see: Stringer for the Washington Post, national columnist with 4 million readers a month, contributor to almost every major news outlet, co-creator of the Oriceran Universe, author of best-selling UF series, The Leira Chronicles – and now I’m hanging here on Kickstarter with great books full of adventure and a store of my own. I’m out here writing recess for all of us who want to find the courage to just be ourselves on any given day and want to make the most of it. Over and over again. More adventures to follow.”

If you love urban fantasy featuring strong female characters, humor, and dragons, the Queen of the Flightless Dragons series should be your next read! Check out the Kickstarter for Lasair and the exclusive

“I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist–words are my palette. Fantasy and science fiction are my genres of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of heroes, villains, and everything in between. I’m also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy and sci-fi novels.
Speculative fiction provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle–it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!”

We’ll cover Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword & Sorcery, and everything in between. Expect to find the best and brightest authors from all corners of the SF&F book world. Plus, we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.
Learn more about Jamie’s author updates and books at JamieDavisBooks.com.
Learn more about Scott’s writerly mischief at ScottIsWriting.com (and download a copy of his cozy urban fantasy, Dwarves and Daisies).
Our guest this week is author CK Westbrook.

CK Westbrook is the author of the science fiction series, The Impact Series.
CK is an environmentalist who lives and works in Washington D.C. and is a self-described old-school news junkie. Since the state of our planet and the news is bleak and depressing, CK escapes reality by creating intriguing characters in a science fiction world.
The world these characters live in may also be dark and scary, but they have fantastic adventures which impact their planet. In addition to creating imaginative stories, CK breaks free from daily life with an intense passion for travel and has been to all seven continents. CK loves weaving real-world topics and crises into suspenseful sci-fi and fantasy.

Be sure to dive into The Impact Series so you’re caught up when book four, The Aftermath, launches!

Our guest this week is author Erin P.T. Canning.

Erin P.T. Canning has worked for more than fifteen years as an editor, encouraging each writer’s individual voice and strengthening their writing goals.
She always planned to write a book. Then she had kids. While she focused on them, she stopped writing—for six years. Something deep inside was missing. Depression, anxiety, and anger forced her to search for herself, both for her sake and her family’s.
Despite fearing her skills had atrophied, Erin started writing again. One journal entry led to one blog post that led to her creating her podcast, Parents Who Write. Erin’s current role as a podcaster and writing coach enables her to help others pursue their writing dreams.
She finished writing her own shitty first draft in 2022, and The Aerytol Saga became so epic that she keeps dividing the manuscript in half. She released her first fantasy-romance novel, Ruins and Redemption, in 2023. Book one celebrates Erin taking herself off the shelf and making her own dreams come true.
She earned her MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins University, and she lives with her husband and their two boys in Maryland.
Be sure to get your copy of Ruins and Redemption (also available in KU!):

This week we have not one but three guests! All are writing in the cozy fantasy shared world called Cozy Vales: Cassandra Stirling, Rebecca Buchanan, and Scott Walker.

Cassandra Stirling is all about books. She reads them, edits them, writes them, reviews them, and throws them at the wall when they frustrate her. They also appear as main features in all the series she writes, whether as jobs for her protagonists, a love of reading as a hobby, or as literary quotes to teach someone a lesson. You could say Cassandra is immersed in them in all the ways that count. You can find out more about her work at cassandracstirling.com.
Rebecca Buchanan is the editor of the long-running Pagan literary ezine Eternal Haunted Summer. She is also a regular contributor to ev0ke: witchcraft*paganism*lifestyle. Scott Walker was spinning stories and weaving worlds long before he got his Creative Writing B.A., though he spent years in traditional business before coming back to his passion for storytelling. An east coast transplant, Scott currently lives in Los Angeles, which is the setting for his Little Yokai urban fantasy series. He loves D&D, dressing up as a Star Wars Sandtrooper for Halloween, and playing video games. His wife claims he never disclosed these hobbies before they were married. Learn more about Scott’s cozy urban fantasy series, Manhattan Magic (the first book is free!).
The first anthology from Cozy Vales is now available for free from all major ebook platforms and contains nine stories, all set around the fictional holidays of Winter’s Tide and Lantern Night.
