It was great to catch up for a podcast with U.S. Elite Pro rider Cam Bramer while he was out here in San Diego, getting ready for this weekend’s Holeshot Challenge at the State Finals at San Diego BMX.
Cam shared some insight into his BMX journey, starting out at the legendary South Park track in Pennsylvania — a place many of us have raced over the decades — and progressing through the amateur ranks all the way to Pro. This year, he reached a huge milestone, winning his first Elite National main event in Minnesota, in front of his family.
We talked about what it’s like being a current Pro in today’s tough climate. Despite the challenges, Cam has built a solid group of sponsors who support his racing journey. He also spoke about his recent move to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to further his career, his goal of racing more World Cups, and his ultimate dream — qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and representing Team USA on home soil.
Cam gave some great perspective on the depth of the current Elite class, his mindset, and his drive to win. I really enjoyed this one — Cam’s a great guy, and it’s riders like him you can’t help but cheer for.
In this episode, we talk about the National BMX Hall of Fame, which Dr. J attended last weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We cover the event itself, who was there, and some of the 2025 inductees.
We also dive into the Pump Track World Championships, where Eddy Clerte was crowned UCI Pump Track World Champion. We share our thoughts on the value of a rainbow jersey for Pump Track and what it means as a title.
From there, we move on to the final UCI World Cup of the season in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, with Arthur Pilard and Saya Sakakibara taking the overall titles. Plus, we touch on the upcoming Enhanced Games slated for 2026—and more.
Eddy King is in town (San Diego), and he and his mom dropped by for a catch-up. We hit the record button on the podcast as well.
We talk about San Diego’s deep history in BMX, some of the early tracks from the 70s, and the current San Diego BMX Track (run by Tyler Brown and his wife), which is one of the longest-running tracks in the U.S.—possibly the longest in history.
We also talk about Hall of Fames popping up around the country and ask: why don’t they have one in San Diego or So-Cal?
Other topics include Dirty Fest, the Oakley 50th Anniversary Party that Ebby attended, the NBA Awards, and the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles—how it could be the perfect time for BMX history to shine with a side event, museum, or exhibition running alongside the Olympic BMX events.
We also touch on Harry Leary, some Kellogg’s talk, and more. Check it out!
Over in the UK at the moment, so going to knock out some podcasts while here. First up, one of the hardest-working, dedicated guys I know in the UK – and the guy behind the Malverns Classic – Si Paton.
Si came over earlier this week and we spent the whole day talking BMX, MTB, and more, and recorded an hour’s worth for the pod.
We talk about Si’s early days growing up in Birmingham, riding Birmingham Wheels with local legends Anthony Butt and the West Midlands early-’80s BMX scene. Si talks about skating alongside BMX and getting into the MTB scene when it was blowing up in the early ’90s in the UK.
We talk about Si putting on the National Downhill Series for British Cycling, bringing the Malverns back with backing from Clive Gosling and GT, and the ups and downs of running a monstrous event – plus how things are looking for this year’s event, which takes place in a few weeks’ time.
We also talk about the Bob Haro / Gumball 3000 – IKONIX Bike Launch London event he was part of last week. We discuss the possibility of a Frogtown or Dirty Fest–style BMX event as part of the future of the Malverns, and potentially even the British BMX Hall of Fame.
Lots more covered from mid-’90s Crewe BMX track sessions with Coach/Trainer Bob Fields (RIP), US trip to the States with Nigel Page. We talk Steve Peat, Jason McRoy, Dylan Clayton, Paul Roberts, the Mammoth Kamikaze, We Were RAD, the ’90s UK rave scene, and more.
It was great to catch up with Si, and hopefully we can do it again later in the year.
In this episode, Tyler Brown recaps the exciting 2025 UCI BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. We talk Elite Men, Women, Men U23, Team USA, a little behind the scenes, and a few other snippets. We also wrap up this pod with a little Summer Camp talk.
