BTR News – Bootstraps, US Senator Slotkin’s Sanitized Capitalist Mythmaking
By Scotty T. Reid, Black Talk Radio News

On one of my favorite independent news podcasts, Breaking Points, a recent segment featured Michigan’s U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin—Democrat by affiliation, establishment gatekeeper in practice—who leaned on her family’s business legacy to swipe at democratic socialism and the popular policies gaining traction within her party’s base.

Asked about the Democratic primary victory of New York mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, Slotkin deployed the familiar centrist sleight of hand—insulting NYC voters by feigning ignorance about how they vote, as if they were some foreign population. Never mind her background as a CIA Middle East analyst before running for office—apparently her analytical skills vanish when the topic is New York’s electorate. She briefly acknowledged voters’ frustrations, then quickly pivoted to a sentimental tale about her great-grandfather “lifting himself up” through capitalism.

Capitalism, she claimed, “gave him the opportunity” to build a business and pass down wealth through the generations—ending, of course, with her.

What she left out could fill volumes. This bootstraps story isn’t even hers—it belongs to her ancestor Samuel Slotkin, who immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s, when the borders were open wide to European whites. Even Jews fleeing pogroms in Tsarist Russia could arrive in America and, after clearing Ellis Island, enter the white working class with access to property, jobs, and legal protections. That’s not to diminish their struggles, but let’s be clear: Samuel Slotkin arrived in an era when the U.S. government was barring Asians, lynching Black Americans, and stealing Indigenous land.

Slotkin’s narrative asks us to believe capitalism rewarded “hard work” alone, not the social and political carve-outs for white immigrants. In truth, what was rewarded was his whiteness—and timing. Her great-grandfather built Hygrade Food Products in Detroit, a city booming with industrial growth, federal contracts, and an economy rigged in favor of white workers. Meanwhile, Black citizens were shut out of union jobs, confined to redlined neighborhoods, and denied wealth-building opportunities. This was capitalism—but not the free-market fairy tale she’s selling. It was a racialized, class-stratified system designed to lift a select few while exploiting the rest—in other words, a system of racist apartheid.

Even if we strip race out of the picture (a dangerous and dishonest exercise, but let’s entertain it), her story still fails as a defense of capitalism. Early 20th-century working-class whites often labored as children in sweatshops, faced violent strike-busting by police, and had virtually no legal protections. OSHA didn’t exist. “Opportunity” came at the cost of broken bodies and generations of toil. Families like hers succeeded because they started with just enough access, just enough protection, and a system designed to exploit labor while rewarding capital—and they had the capital.

Today, Slotkin sits atop that legacy while lecturing the rest of us about “free stuff.” But America already has socialism—it’s just socialism for the rich. Billionaires get tax breaks, banks and automakers get bailouts, defense contractors get no-bid contracts, the private prison industry thrives, and some corporations pay negative federal income tax. Working people, meanwhile, get means testing and sermons about “fiscal responsibility.”

Slotkin doesn’t just oppose policies that would give working people affordable housing, healthcare, local food access, and a living wage—she undermines them with a sanitized family story that erases history, class, and race. All to protect a Democratic establishment that caters to American oligarchs while tossing the working class crumbs like “no taxes on tips” under a certain amount.

BTR News – From Community Organizer to Imperial President: The Real Obama Legacy
By Scotty Reid

I. Introduction

Barack Obama’s rise to prominence was built on a narrative of grassroots activism, hope, and systemic change. He entered the national stage as the embodiment of progressive ideals—a former community organizer who spoke eloquently about universal healthcare, social justice, and ending the corrosive influence of money and special interests in politics. For many, he represented a break from the old order, a leader who would finally steer the nation toward equity and fairness.

But as history has shown, the reality of Obama’s presidency fell far short of that promise. Instead of dismantling entrenched systems of injustice, Obama became a custodian of neoliberal economics at home and a champion of imperial power abroad. His administration expanded mass surveillance, institutionalized extrajudicial killings, escalated wars, and facilitated coups, all while entrenching corporate power in the domestic economy. This is not merely a question of broken promises—it is a matter of deliberate political choices that contradicted his activist roots.

II. Early Activism & Political Roots

Obama’s early years as a community organizer with the Gamaliel Foundation painted a very different picture. He engaged with working-class communities on issues like affordable housing, job training, and neighborhood empowerment. He worked alongside progressive circles, including those affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America. During these formative years, he aligned himself with policies like universal healthcare—a goal he later diluted as president.

Those early affiliations and his emphasis on social justice created an image of a man committed to systemic change. Yet, by the time Obama reached the Oval Office, those ideals had given way to pragmatism—or more accurately, political opportunism—that left core structural issues untouched or exacerbated them.

III. Domestic Policy Failures & Reversals

A. Healthcare
One of the most glaring examples of this shift was healthcare. Obama campaigned on the notion of universal coverage and flirted with progressive language, which gave hope to advocates of single-payer or Medicare for All. Instead, we got the Affordable Care Act—a reform that left private insurance companies firmly in control of the system. While the ACA expanded coverage, it entrenched a for-profit model that continues to bankrupt working families and deny care to millions.

B. The Drug War & Mass Incarceration
Obama’s rhetoric as a candidate suggested sympathy toward ending the failed War on Drugs. Yet he failed to deschedule cannabis federally, leaving countless people—disproportionately Black and Brown—trapped in the criminal justice system. Even worse, his administration threatened to cut off aid to Latin American nations that considered legalizing cannabis, effectively exporting America’s failed drug policies abroad.

As for mass incarceration, Obama took years to address private prisons. Only in the twilight of his presidency did he announce the end of federal contracts with private prison corporations—a move easily reversed by Donald Trump. If Obama had acted early in his second term, the industry could have collapsed under financial pressure, reducing one of the biggest drivers of mass incarceration—modern-day slavery under the 13th Amendment.

C. Police Violence
High-profile police killings during his presidency—Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and countless others—sparked national outrage. Yet Obama’s response was largely symbolic. His policing task force offered recommendations but produced little meaningful change. The structural issues of militarized policing and systemic racism persisted unabated.

BTR News – They Knew, Said Nothing: The Complicity of Obama, Clinton, Booker & Klobuchar in Israel’s Starvation Siege
By Scotty Reid | Black Talk Radio News

A Breaking Points segment claimed U.S. mainstream media and establishment politicians only recently began broadcasting graphic images of famine in Gaza. While that holds, it overlooks earlier warnings and vital grassroots documentation.

Cindy McCain: Leading the Alarm from 2023

As Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme since March 2023, Cindy McCain, widow of Sen. John McCain, consistently warned the world about looming famine in Gaza.
By November 2023, she was predicting widespread starvation—and by May 2024, declared that northern Gaza was in full-blown famine, calling for humanitarian corridors and massive aid scale-up.

TikTok: Visual Evidence when Other Platforms Shut It Down

While platforms like Facebook and Instagram suppressed pro‑Palestinian content, Israel, AIPAC, the US Congress, and Donald Trump lobbied and got a law passed to ban TikTok explictly because of real images coming out of Gaza but despite this, the platform remained a channel where Palestinians and journalists could upload live footage of the mass starvation—unfiltered and uncensored. These viral videos reached global audiences long before mainstream outlets aired similar imagery.

Tweets: Politicians Begin Commenting — Only in Mid‑2025

Hillary Clinton (X/Twitter — July 2025)

“Aid organizations report that thousands of children in Gaza are at risk of starvation while trucks full of food sit waiting across the border.”

This tweet appears to be her first public statement on Gaza since 2023, and it specifically called out stalled aid.

Barack Obama (X/Twitter — July 28, 2025)

“While a lasting resolution to the crisis in Gaza must involve a return of all hostages and a cessation of Israel’s military operations… these articles underscore the immediate need for action to prevent the travesty of innocent people dying of preventable starvation. Aid must be permitted to reach people in Gaza. There is no justification for keeping food and water away from civilian families.”

This marked his first public engagement on starvation in Gaza.

Cory Booker (Statement — circa July 25, 2025)

“Witnessing the catastrophic hunger and suffering of civilians… in Gaza has been heartbreaking. … It is our collective moral duty to ensure that humanitarian relief reaches those who need it most urgently.”

His first publicly documented comment in six months; he notably did not name Israel explicitly.

Amy Klobuchar (Photo-op & subsequent post — July 2025)

• On July 9, she appeared in a smiling photo-op with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, indicted by the ICC, alongside other U.S. senators including Cory Booker.

• Days later, she issued her first public statement on Gaza starvation, calling the humanitarian crisis “unacceptable” and urged urgent aid in response to NGO warnings.

Fact-Check Summary Table

The Bigger Picture

• TikTok’s citizen content—posted and viewed globally—helped fuel broader awareness when corporate platforms muted or removed sensitive imagery.

• Cindy McCain and global humanitarian agencies were sounding alarms well before U.S. politicians spoke publicly.

• U.S. lawmakers and cable news editors held back graphic images and messages until public pressure and viral documentation forced wider exposure.

• Politicians whose campaign funding benefited from AIPAC-aligned electorates remained silent until months into the crisis—raising concerns about ideological complicity beyond mere omission.

Conclusion

BTR News – Safe Bus, Bitter Truth – Debunking Dr. Claude Anderson’s Jim Crow Nostalgia
Was Jim Crow really a “blessing in disguise” for Black Americans? In this episode of Black Talk Radio News, host Scotty Reid confronts the revisionist narrative promoted by Dr. Claude Anderson and others who suggest segregation was a time of Black prosperity.

We dig into Anderson’s family legacy with Safe Bus Company in Winston-Salem, explore whether their success was the norm or an exception, and ask why there’s no record of their support for the Civil Rights Movement, despite benefiting from the gains it produced.

Scotty also challenges Anderson’s economic theory that wealth must precede political power, raising concerns about how that logic mirrors today’s super PAC and billionaire-controlled political landscape. This episode calls for accountability from those in Black media and scholarship who perpetuate myths that undermine the legacy of civil rights fighters and mislead new generations.

BTR News – The Hidden Cost of Deportation: Who Really Pays?
In this episode of Black Talk Radio News, we dive deep into one of the biggest hypocrisies in U.S. politics — the fact that millions of undocumented immigrants pay billions in taxes every year, only to be criminalized, detained, and deported by the very system that benefits from their labor. While right-wing politicians call for mass deportations, few are talking about the economic fallout: a shrinking tax base, lost Social Security revenue, and growing federal deficits.

We explore how the IRS issues tax ID numbers (ITINs) to undocumented workers, why the government protects their tax info from ICE, and how Trump’s immigration agenda would worsen the national deficit — a cost rarely calculated by the Congressional Budget Office. This episode exposes how political fearmongering ignores the real math and punishes those who quietly help fund America’s social safety net.

Tune in and find out why this issue deserves more attention — not just from human rights advocates, but from anyone who cares about economic truth and fiscal responsibility.

BTR News: Prophets vs. Power – What the Bible Really Says About Land, Justice, and Israel
Welcome to Black Talk Radio News, where we challenge narratives and dig deep into historical and political truths. Today, we’re turning to the pages of scripture—but not for religion’s sake. We’re talking about power. Land. And the courage to speak truth when it’s unpopular.

Because here’s the thing: the prophets of ancient Israel weren’t quiet men with long beards. They were radical voices who stood up against kings, armies, and priests. Not for wealth. Not for land. But to remind their people: God doesn’t care about your borders if your justice is corrupt.

Let’s take Amos, for example. He called out Israel’s elites for exploiting the poor while performing religious rituals. He said—“I hate your festivals… Let justice roll like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Sound familiar?

Fast forward to the time of Yeshua, known today as Jesus. The people under occupation were looking for a warrior messiah to free them. But Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world.” That wasn’t weakness. That was defiance. He was telling Rome—and the corrupt leaders of his own people—that empire doesn’t bring salvation.

He didn’t pick up a sword. He picked up the words of Isaiah, Micah, and Jeremiah—prophets who condemned their own leaders for chasing power over compassion.

The Killing of Demyan Hanul: The Rise and Fall of a Ukrainian Ultranationalist
By Scotty Reid

The recent assassination of Demyan Hanul, a far-right Ukrainian nationalist and former leader of the Right Sector’s Odesa branch, has sent shockwaves through Ukraine’s political landscape. His killing has reignited debates about the role of ultranationalist movements in the country’s governance and the violent, exclusionary ideologies that fueled the post-2014 conflict. Hanul, an outspoken anti-Russian Ukrainian supremacist, spent years advocating for policies that marginalized Russian-speaking Ukrainians. His deep ties to Stepan Bandera-inspired nationalist factions made him a hero to some but a symbol of ethnic intolerance to others. Accused of participating in the 2014 Odesa massacre, where dozens of people opposing the coup were burned alive in the Trade Unions House, Hanul represented the radicalized wing of Ukraine’s nationalist movement—one that sought to erase Russian cultural influence from Ukrainian society.

A Murder That Raises More Questions Than Answers

On March 13, 2025, Hanul was gunned down in Odesa, the city where he had once led violent clashes against those resisting the 2014 Maidan uprising. Ukrainian authorities quickly arrested a suspect—an army deserter—and suggested possible Russian involvement. However, given Hanul’s controversial past and numerous enemies, his murder could just as easily have been the result of internal conflicts within Ukraine’s far-right networks.

His killing exposes the fractures within Ukraine’s nationalist factions, particularly as the government, under President Volodymyr Zelensky, continues to walk a tightrope between appeasing these extremist groups and maintaining international support. Zelensky, a native Russian speaker who once campaigned on de-escalating tensions with Ukraine’s Russian-speaking population, has instead aligned himself with the very ultranationalists who reject his cultural identity.

How Did We Get Here? The Roots of Ukraine’s Crisis

To understand Hanul’s assassination in context, we must revisit the events of 2014, when Ukraine underwent a Western-backed coup that toppled the democratically elected President Viktor Yanukovych. The new government, dominated by right-wing nationalists, immediately pursued policies that alienated millions of Ukrainians, particularly those in the east and south who spoke Russian as their primary language.

Among the first acts of the post-coup government was an attempt to repeal a law protecting Russian as a regional language, signaling to Russian-speaking Ukrainians that their identity was unwelcome. Over the following years, legislation was passed restricting Russian-language education, media, and political representation, fueling deep resentment in regions like Donbas and Crimea.

These exclusionary policies, combined with the violent suppression of anti-coup protests—most infamously in Odesa, where Hanul and other Right Sector militants allegedly played a role in mass killings—led to the breakout of the civil war in Donbas and the eventual Russian intervention in 2022.

The Banderite Legacy and Zelensky’s Complicity

The far-right influence in Ukraine’s government has only grown stronger since 2014. Groups inspired by Stepan Bandera, the Nazi-collaborator and ultranationalist leader of WWII, have pushed an aggressive "de-Russification" agenda that seeks to eliminate Russian cultural identity from Ukraine entirely. While many Western media outlets downplay the presence of such groups, their control over key military and political institutions is undeniable.

Zelensky, despite his personal background as a Russian-speaking Jewish comedian from Kryvyi Rih, has chosen political survival over principle, aligning himself with these ultranationalists to maintain power. His refusal to rein in extremist militias and his government's continued persecution of R...

The Hidden Variable in Inflation: Foreign Expenditures and the Cost of Endless Conflict
By Scotty Reid - BTR News
In a recent segment titled "Eggs, Car Insurance SKYROCKET Inflation Numbers Ahead Of Trump," Breaking Points contributors Ryan and Saagar delved into the troubling rise in car insurance rates and its connection to broader inflationary trends reporting that in the month of November 2024 inflation rose 2.7%. While the segment offered valuable insights, it failed to address a crucial yet often overlooked factor contributing to inflation: the United States' extensive foreign expenditures and perpetual state of military conflict.

The Cost of Constant Conflict
For decades, the U.S. has maintained a policy of global military engagement, spending vast sums on wars, military aid, and clandestine operations. This pattern is not only a moral and political issue but also an economic one with direct implications for inflation. Consider recent events:

* Military Aid to Israel and Ukraine: In November alone, the Biden administration announced multi-billion-dollar aid packages to support Israel’s military actions and Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
* New Pledges in Syria: Amid escalating tensions and the reported overthrow of the Syrian government, the U.S. pledged additional billions to opposition forces.
* Clandestine Operations: Beyond the publicized aid, a significant portion of U.S. foreign expenditures is hidden under classified budgets, funding covert activities that never make headlines.

These expenditures are financed largely through borrowing, adding to the national debt and putting upward pressure on inflation. Yet, discussions of inflation in mainstream media rarely connect these dots, focusing instead on domestic variables like supply chain disruptions or corporate price gouging.
The Dollar's Diminishing Dominance
Foreign expenditures also weaken the dollar’s position as the world’s reserve currency, another driver of inflation. The U.S. uses its financial dominance to impose economic sanctions, a form of economic warfare that has pushed nations like Russia, China, and others to seek alternatives to the dollar in global trade. This shift has manifested in the growing influence of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), which aims to establish a trade system independent of the dollar.

As more countries move away from the dollar, the U.S. faces reduced demand for its currency, weakening its value. A weaker dollar makes imports more expensive for American consumers, fueling inflation. The ripple effects of U.S. military and economic policies abroad thus reach right into the pockets of everyday Americans, driving up prices not just for car insurance but also for food, fuel, and housing.
The Missing Discussion in Media
Breaking Points’ omission of these foreign expenditures reflects a broader trend in mainstream and alternative media alike: a failure to connect the economic impact of America’s global military footprint to domestic inflation. While analysts dissect the price of eggs or car insurance, the elephant in the room—the cost of endless war—goes largely unmentioned.

This oversight does a disservice to the public. Understanding inflation requires looking beyond consumer trends to the structural forces at play. Military spending consumes a significant portion of the federal budget, funded through borrowing that increases the national debt and weakens the dollar. When this dynamic is ignored, the public is left with an incomplete picture of why their cost of living continues to rise.
A Call for Deeper Analysis
As inflation remains a top concern for Americans, it is imperative that media outlets expand their analysis to include the role of foreign expenditures. The cost of endless war and global dominance is not just a geopolitical issue; it’s an ec...
