Hey Y’all - We're Bevin and Brittney. Welcome to “Be My Neighbor.” Our neighborly duties are to provide real life solutions and practices that elevate and inspire, but also remind us to not take it all too seriously.

We’re real life neighbors that quickly learned that you simply cannot do it on your own, living in a competitive and fast paced environment like New York City.

We don’t just share the sugar, we serve up the real tea. Each week, we invite you into the apartment along with our metaphorical and literal neighbors to share advice on how we get through this thing called life.

From navigating relationships to building a career, we want you to recognize and embrace the best version of YOU. We want you to know that your “crazy” is ok, and that you’re definitely not alone.

Our door is always open, and we want you to know... we’ve got your back.

Happy 2021: Jumping on the Dry Challenge

We love nothing more than seeing our friends we’ve made through work, go on to accomplish big things. Britt met Hilary Sheinbaum over the years on numerous red carpets, fitness events and more. She has contributed to national, regional and online publications, including The New York Times, USA TODAY, Marie Claire, Travel + Leisure, New York Magazine, am New York, ELLE.com, Forbes.com and Yahoo.com (among many other outlets). You may have read her many “I Tried this for 30 Days Challenges or seen her speaking on TV on various celeb-related topics.

On December 29th, she also just released her FIRST BOOK: The Dry Challenge: How to Lose the Booze for Dry January, Sober October, and Any Other Alcohol-Free Month!  We know, we know, this would normally not be for us, nor have we ever participated in any “DRY-anythings,” but as we head into the New Year, and Britt can’t drink ;), we couldn't think of a better person to get us in the right headspace and teach us the ways to successfully complete a dry month, along with the benefits of doing so. Her book is out NOW and if you’re looking to start 2021 off on a better, healthier foot, we highly suggest listening to this one!

In this episode we also cover why:

-Hilary’s process and the length of time it took to actually get her book published

-How abstaining from alcohol for one month contributes to brighter, fresher, younger looking skin.

-Thinking Outside the Box(ed Wine) – Activities, without Alcohol

-D(N)UI – Dating (Not) Under the Influence — Date ideas beyond “going for a drink” and insights about how alcohol influences relationships (even marriages!)

Erin Lives Whole

This week we’re excited to share our conversation with someone whose presence we’ve watched flourish over the years - the blogger, recipe developer, and author behind Erin Lives Whole, Erin Morrissey!

Erin started Erin Lives Whole in 2017 as a place to share her own spins on creating healthier, feel-good foods. She has since published two e-books, Sweet And Simple Six, and just recently, Simply Whole that profile recipes that are free of common allergens like gluten & dairy, and ‘lightened-up’ versions without any specific label.

We love her honest, authentic approach in her stories and posts and her personal story is one that we could all relate to in some way. In this episode, we chat with Erin about how she overcame an eating disorder, how she remains confident in the public eye when everyone has an opinion, how she keeps herself inspired and how Erin built and launched her business, based on her passion for good, whole food and baking. And of course, we could not resist the opportunity to ask her some of her favorite recipes.

It's Not the MakeUP - It's the Make Down - Crossover with The Make Down Podcast

This week we have part 2 of our 2 PART SERIES with one of Bevin's BFF's, Christine Symonds and one of her BFF's and PIC's, Jamie Greenberg. The two women are at the top of their games in the world of hair and makeup, respectively, working with Rashida Jones, Kaley Cuoco, Chelsea Handler… I mean, there are too many names to drop here. AND the two mothers still find time to create the hilariously funny and wickedly smart podcast, The Make Down.

On their podcast, the duo share conversations with people they consider masters in their craft to learn what makes them tick and what products keep them looking and feeling fresh and fabulous... it’s never a dull work day when these ladies have each other.

In this crossover episode, we chat about the challenges that come with running our own businesses and all the messy hard work that it really takes to make it look easy. We dive deep into Jamie’s hot new cosmetic line, the Blighlighter!, her long journey to releasing a coveted new product, and Jamie and Teenie get us to share our favorite hair and makeup products that we’re really into these days. Plus, stick around when the show is over to hear some bonus content… basically all the mayhem that took place before we went live.

If you haven’t heard PART 1 yet, just go to themakedown.com or their insta @themakedown !

Many Hands Make Light Work With Rob Koenen

If we were to look on the bright side of 2020, being environmentally conscious when it comes to the air we breathe and the products we consume, has become top priority.  That’s why we were so excited to have the Chief Marketing Officer of Boxed Water is Better, Rob Koenen, come on with us today. If you don’t know Boxed Water, or haven’t seen the white cartons firsthand, it is the first national company to offer a sustainable alternative to plastic water bottles. In his role, Rob is charged with expanding Boxed Water’s core message and empowering consumers to make a statement that “sustainability matters.”

We also couldn’t wait to get a hold of Rob as his marketing resume speaks for itself - he has built true lifestyle brands for companies in food, apparel and footwear. Rob’s extensive marketing and leadership experience for Boxed Water is rooted in story-telling with innovative campaigns that span multiple communication channels, and we’re so happy to be able to pick his brain when it comes to putting together true marketing campaigns that resonate and truly make an impact.

In this episode, we speak to building a brand, where to even begin and more specifically, 5 strategies that a company should be doing to build a trusted and believable brand name.  We also speak to our current environment situation – why all those LaCroix’s we drink are so bad for the environment and Boxed Water’s plan for the future.  This company is doing amazing things and we’re so happy to be on board.

#HatNotHate With Shira Blumenthal

Hey y’all - If you have recently seen a knitted blue yarn hat in your social media feed or on the news like we have, today we have the privilege of sitting down with the female founder that started this very important anti-bullying awareness campaign, #HatNotHate, Shira Blumenthal!

Shira and Britt were connected through a mutual colleague who was raving about the #HatNotHate campaign, stemming off of October’s National Bullying Prevention month. For those of you looking to start a campaign from the ground up, Shira walks us through how she did just that. From having been a victim of bullying at one point in her life, she has truly put in the work and is hoping to impart others with the same wisdom she has gained by teaching others about bullying. Also, if you're looking to do some good AND start a new hobby, she swears knitting is easy!

Big Changes, Big Growth: A Proper Catch Up With Britt & Bevin

We were working so hard on the relaunch of Be My Neighbor and bringing you new and interesting neighbors since then (on a regular basis- first time for everything), that we realized we have not had an episode with just us in a very, very long time. And selfishly, we haven’t seen each other as much as we would like, so we sat down together for a proper catch up on what we have been up to, what we have been experiencing during this strange time, and what we're planning for the future.

COVID has shifted all of our lives in unimaginable ways, and just like y'all, we have been making some BIG CHANGES. Some are painful and some are exciting, but all of them are part of the growing, scary adulting process. In this episode, we talk moving out of NYC, the hunger games for house buying, babies, freezing eggs, and starting new ventures. AHHH.

We got this. We can do hard things. You can too. We're incredibly grateful for this community and all of your support over the past few months. Thank you for tuning in and opening up to us. We love your messages and know that we're here for you.

Dr. Jaime Schehr: The Diet Doesn't Define You

Over the past few weeks, we have been on a DEEP DIVE into ALL the drama surrounding the F-Factor Diet and All In by Teddi Mellencamp. To address the controversies, we decided to call on a true expect in the field of nutrition and health, Dr. Jaime Schehr, to help us understand these fad diets, their negative effects, and why as a culture we keep buying into them.

Dr. Jaime is a nationally recognized expert in integrative medicine and nutrition and holds dual licenses as a Naturopathic Physician and Registered Dietitian, making her one of the few practitioners in the country with both. As seen in SHAPE, Live Strong and Mind Body Green, she works intimately with patients and their primary care physicians to help them understand, identify and manage their health.

In this episode, Jaime, in her direct but compassionate approach, breaks down all things nutrition and health for us. From fad diets, to accountability, setting personal boundaries, the emotional needs and triggers associated with diet and exercise, to the negative effects of comparison and social media, she covers it all. Jaime is the real deal.

Asha Walker: Health in the Hood

There are certain people who have proven to be true leaders by serving their communities and providing for those in need. We couldn't think of anyone that defines the word 'neighborly,' more than Asha Walker. She is one of those spectacular people, that you can't help gravitating towards.

Asha founded Health In The Hood, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that implements and maintains community gardens in food deserts, along with nutrition and fitness education, in order to break barriers between low-income communities and healthy choices.

Throughout the Covid pandemic, Asha has once again stepped up to help people affected, creating Filling Fridges, which provides fresh food delivery for students and families, grocery gift cards for displaced workers and prepared meals for low-income families.

For our neighbors that have always wanted to know about how you actually start a non-profit, in this episode, Asha shares how she got Health In The Hood up and running, how she pivoted and grew during the pandemic, how we can get involved, and her big plans for the future. She was also just featured in EXPRESS's latest campaign - DREAM BIG - so be sure to check that out!

Val Warner: "The Cloud Will Pass"

There are some people that come into our lives and within an instant, it feels like you are sitting with an old friend, sharing secrets, soaking up wisdom, learning and growing together. Val Warner is just that woman.

Val is a true Chicago fixture, known as the Emmy Award-winning host of Windy City LIVE, ABC 7 Chicago's popular afternoon talk and entertainment show, airing weekdays. Her effervescence on air radiates across the screen and she goes beyond the fluff, tackling the harder topics, like race, bullying, domestic violence and body image with her guests.

In this episode, Val shares with us what it is like being a black woman in media, how she remains true to herself, uses her authentic voice, and stays motivated during quarantine. Val also generously lets us in on how she found the strength to walk away from domestic abuse, found the courage to talk about it and shares her advice to others in a similar situation.

Val is the real deal - a real girl's girl, and after getting the chance to speak with her, we felt ready to take on anything thrown our way.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow: Brittney's Pregnancy Loss & Healing

“Sometimes we have to make peace with our hearts being broken. We can spend so much time trying to put all those shattered pieces back into a similar form, we fail to realize it is better to make a brand new shape. “ - Zoe Clark- Coates

As the oldest child in her extended family, Brittney grew up with a baby constantly in her arms and dreamed of the day she would hold her own. She is the kind of woman who is built for the job: organized, prepared, and with the biggest heart that is ready to provide unconditional love to all those lucky enough to be in her life.

When Brittney found out she was pregnant she was overwhelmed with gratitude and was ready to begin her new life as a mother, just like she dreamed. Unfortunately, things do not always go the way we dream, plan, or even think that they will.

In this episode, Brittney tells HER story of pregnancy during a pandemic, Edward’s Syndrome, heartbreak, loss, and in true Brittney fashion, healing and hope.

This episode is near and dear to our hearts. Brittney selflessly shares her story with us in hopes that it will help someone else who may be hurting, to remind us we are not alone, and to remind us that we never have to do heartbreak alone.

Samantha Ettus: Helping us to Re-Write Our Lives

We, as well as many of our neighbors, are in what we're calling a transition standstill. Whether you are trying to plan your next steps because you've been furloughed from your job, trying to push yourself to stay motivated while working from home, juggling far too much, or simply trying to shake your life up, we know that this “re-write” has not been easy.

Enter: one of our new neighborhood heroes - Samantha Ettus. We don’t think it could have come at a better time to have Samantha Ettus come on.

Since earning her undergraduate and MBA degrees from Harvard, where she was also a rock star tennis player, Samantha has become the best-selling author of five books, a renowned speaker, and the host of a nationally-syndicated call-in radio show. In 2018, Sam founded Park Place Payments, as a way to create flexible career opportunities and disrupt the $8B payments and credit card processing industry, supporting both women and communities at once. She found a niche that needed solving and has helped women maintain both their careers and personal lives while working there. She is also a mom of 3 and somehow fits in the time to support women running for office as Co-founder of the Los Angeles Women's Collective.

In addition to speaking about the business, we wanted y’all to take away something tangible from Samantha- as we’re committed to giving you the tools to learn and grow.

In her book, The Pie Life: A Guilt Free Recipe For Success and Satisfaction, she states 7 pieces of the pie that bake a recipe for fulfillment. As a lot of us have been stripped of what we thought would make us happy and lead us to a feeling of success, we ask Samantha to lead us through an actual exercise to help create a life that is truly gratifying, balanced and full.

Easier said, than done, but if you’re in need of some inspo, strap in and do this exercise with us. We walked away ready to take on the entire day, month, etc. and not shy away from our fears that might be holding us back.

Tom Hanson: Our Neighborly Reporter

As we watched the news surrounding the Black Lives Matters protests, we have a great deal of respect for the reporters working in the field, sometimes directly in the line of danger to keep us informed.

We were honored to speak with one of New York's award-winning journalists @ThomasHanson, coming off of an all-nighter @CBS - he’s the true definition of putting in the work.

To us, Tommy is a real neighbor- he takes care of his community, by always providing us with the most up-to-date information. He doesn’t just report, he puts himself on the line during his shoots, all while advocating for change.

We will get into it ALL of it, including his takeaways from his experiences onsite, his path to becoming a reporter (from interviewing the Dalai Lama to being smuggled into Myanmar’s internment camps to document genocide), and most importantly, the best ways to contribute to change moving forward.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm - Meet our Producer, Marc Ronick

When you start something new, it takes time to work out all the logistics and get to the point where everything is running smoothly.  Being that the podcast was not our “main” job, we were having a hard time keeping up with getting episodes out each week. We knew that when we did, we had more engagement with all of you!

When we admitted to ourselves that we needed help, (not as easy as it sounds given how stubborn we can be), we couldn’t be more grateful to have been connected to @MarcRonick by one of our good friends from @themakedown, @christinesymondshair. It’s hard to release some control and trust someone else to understand our voice, but when we met Marc, we instantly clicked and knew we had done the right thing. Marc is an incredible inspiration, advocate, supporter, and teammate. Our missions completely align and we know together we can make even more of an impact in our community.

In this episode, you will finally get to hear Marc’s voice (he does exist!), and also hear how he was able to launch his new podcast production and consulting business, @iRonickMedia, during the pandemic. He is a major advocate and member of the 5 AM Club – have you guys ever tried / heard of this?  A method created after Robin Sharma’s very popular book, The 5 AM Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life, we were skeptical at first, but left our conversation having learned a lot about a new way of working/living your days to the highest potential. Robin is considered to be one of the top 5 leadership experts in the world and has been embraced by rock stars, royalty, billionaires and many celebrity CEOs, so we figured we should listen.

Would y’all wake up at 5 AM every day? What do you think?

Committed to Change with Miles Johnson

Welcome back to “Be My Neighbor!" Over the past few months, so much has changed in our world and for us personally, and we wanted to really take a hard look at what we were trying to achieve with the podcast.

Our mission is to provide real life solutions and practices that elevate and inspire.

For our new neighbors that don’t know us, we’re actual neighbors that quickly learned that you simply cannot do it on your own, living in a competitive and fast paced environment like New York City. We don’t just share the sugar, we serve up the real tea. Each week (yes, actually once a week, finally), we invite you into the apartment along with our metaphorical and literal neighbors to share advice on how to get through this thing we call life. From navigating relationships to building a career, we want you to recognize and embrace the best version of YOU, know that your “crazy” is ok, and that you’re definitely not alone. Our door is always open, and we want you to know, we’ve got your back.

Our first guest back is the one and only, Miles Johnson. Miles is a seeker, speaker, fighter and creator. He has truly found his voice and passion on educating others on diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and is currently leading forums focused on educating white allies. Through the movement, we have learned so much and are so open to learning more. From breaking down white privilege to speaking through recommendations for change (we know many of you expressed that you didn’t know where to start), we took in a great deal from Miles and we hope you do too.

We want to show our support for Miles, his mission and educational experience, and wanted to do more. We personally venmo-ed Miles and after listening, if you feel inclined to contribute, we encourage you to do the same! @Miles-Johnson-4

Follow Miles on Instagram: @livewhereulive

Thank you guys for your support!
