Our second special guest is none other than Dr Erica Hwin. Dr Erica is an extremely busy dentist, working full time in Brisbane while also running The Graduate Dentist podcast.
We launch into Erica's experience at our BAD Indirect course, her favourite takeaways and then her journey as a dentist. We often get to hear Erica as the interviewer on her podcast so this was a great opportunity to hear her story and journey as a young dentist in her second year out.
Who should we have on next?
This episode features our first BAD guest Dr Aditya Sawant, after our first Brisbane Indirect hands-on course. Dr Adi works out of Ballarat and is in his second year out, with a special interest in adhesive ceramic work, implants and full mouth rehabilitation. This was Adi's first time lecturing and teaching with BAD.
We recap the Brissy course, Tim's stomach bug and the BAD vs RECON beef. We get into common questions about co-curing restorations and the correct technique with 2 vs 3 bottle systems.
Dr Adi gets into his journey through university, then graduating and finding his first job.
Next it's printing vs milling and the pros and cons. We talk about our first prints and our first milled restorations & all the L's we took.
The final part covers communication for new grads, and how to discuss high value treatment with patients when you haven't had time to build confidence. How do you get the patient to opt for the high quality treatment that will last much longer? Do sales techniques
This episode is a deep dive into IDS, where it comes from, why we do it and how to do it correctly Next we discuss beam theory, C-factor and sequencing preparation & bonding and common mistakes. We finish the episode on some structural compromise principles and finish on our favourite methods for gingivectomy.
Welcome back to BADcast. This episode is recorded fresh after our indirect course in Melbourne. We discuss why BAD indirect isn't a CEREC course and optimising prep design to make CEREC and other same day dentistry easy using only restorations.
We then dive into techniques to avoid sticking your temporary restorations to your IDS (immediate dentine seal) layer. Super valuable info to avoid some real headaches.
Milling vs Printing? We chat about pros and cons of either, and then talk about prep design and the unnecessary need for retentive features that we often see in some prep designs.
We then breakdown the main biomimetic principles and distill the key take aways of creating a strong hybrid layer and workflow tips to be efficient.
We finish on debonds and some of our experiences in our younger days making classic mistakes with bonding
Second episode. We talk about tiny hands in dentistry, BAD invasion of Sydney, the BAD origin story & what we are here for. We also talk about crowns vs onlays.
We then crack into biomimetics basics & deep margin elevation. Why do deep margin elevation especially if it's so difficult? We finish the episode talking about our heroes in dentistry.
Our first episode, just after our biggest indirect course of 40 students in Perth. We talk about GIC, new materials, what motivates Bill, why dentistry is cooler than medicine, how all dentistry is elective and do we really need that perfect smile?
