In this episode, we have Brian Kim (B.Kim). B.Kim is a singer-songwriter, music producer, and dancer who grew up in the Northern Virginia area. Growing up music has always been a part of his life. It all started with old-school R&B music, introduced by older friends, and K-Pop. Both of these factors are key initial influences on why B.Kim is who he is now. It wasn't until the first day of his first 9-5 job that he realized music was more than the silly song covers and troll dance videos he posted. While taking it more seriously, that's when he learned how to produce, mix, and create full songs. He has also performed live in Virginia, Washington D.C., New York City, and more both musically and with his dance team. He is now living in New York City and finding more inspiration and making more moves to eventually make music his ultimate career.

On this episode, Victor talks with Samuel Shin. Samuel was a psychotherapist for 7 years, but left after getting burnt out. He now does life coaching for the Asian-Am community and specifically Asian men. He runs a bi-weekly men's group, and also does individual & group coaching. He has an 8-week group coaching program for men who have left unfulfilling jobs & careers to create a life and income aligned with their passion & purpose.
[05:55] How did Sam get into men's work?
[12:15] Being a BAD means choosing the uncommon, heart-centered path
[17:15] Sam's journey in developing emotional stability and fulfillment
[32:36] How Sam could help you find purpose
[48:10] The first step to depth, aliveness, and creativity is to just start talking about it
[59:01] What Sam's working on to address these problems
From Samuel about the course...
Thanks, Victor and BAD for letting me promote my course! I don't mention much about it in the interview, so here's more info: Conscious Career Master runs every quarter. It’s an 8-week journey limited to six men who know they have a bigger, heart-centered mission, but are feeling stuck in loops of fear, self-doubt, not feeling ready or good enough (imposter syndrome). These are men who have a vision or even a general direction, but aren't sure what actions to take. Using proven techniques from therapy, meditation & coaching, I help you get clear on your vision, remove mental, emotional and spiritual blocks, and start getting results.

Nick & Victor sit down with JT Tsui where they discuss his journey from developing himself and others in the physical realm and then taking the same attitude to develop people's mental health and spiritual well-being.
In this episode, we talked about:
[02:29] What is a Badass Asian Dude to JT
[03:47] JT's background in physical education allowed him to develop students into full-fledged athletes. However, becoming a competitive athlete is as much of a mental game as it is a physical one.Time in education allowed JT to embrace self-development creating a to shift towards mental health and spiritual well-being
[08:34] As much as the athlete's mindset and discipline can help with succeeding with long term goals, it is using this example JT warns of the duality of character traits. While the athletic mindset can be leveraged to great effect to improve yourself and overcome obstacles, it also leaves you to be unable to turn off where it removes you from other important activities such as being fully present with family and friends.
[09:30] Deep self-reflection is what JT credits to sparking the change in his behaviours, believing self-reflection is the key to gathering awareness of who you are. With genuine introspection it allows one to prioritise their values and focus more energy into creating more time with what is important to the individual.
Consequently, introspection and defining your vision will allow you the power to take ownership of your values and sense of self, which in turns leads to more deliberate action in your own life.
[13:35] JT comments that prioritising, permitting yourself to take breaks, and time management is essential to begin the process of self-reflection and taking ownership in your life. Warnings of allowing time for growth and not being so fixated on the time duration is the key to long term commitment of this journey.
Furthermore, being objective with yourself and examining yourself without judgement will enable you to explore suppressed emotions and experiences, as well as thoroughly reflect on how developed behaviours may have been influenced by others. Only after reconciling what can be extremely difficult emotions and experiences can we begin to take the next steps towards developing better mental and spiritual well-being.
[19:52] Challenging how we think, act and behave and creating permanent changes can be extremely troublesome, however, JT believes one of the most important aspects is the need to create your vision and then use your vision as your guiding North Star.
Listeners should take particular note where Victor comments that the journey does not have to be an independent one and can be undertaken with others where you can find support, as well as further opportunities to explore and reflect. It is common knowledge that Asian culture and its influence can create obstacles to pursuing your path, where these flawed beliefs can take form in the way of generational parental conditioning.
So it is important to do as Bruce Lee once said and use these teachable moments to take the good and leave the bad to better develop the future generations. As a father, JT uses everyday moments with his children to create better conversations, engagement, and opportunities to take ownership of their own lives.
[32:44] The Next Generation. In this section, JT talks about the need and benefits of guiding children and young adults to develop strategies to take more ownership in their lives. With mindfulness being the first step to developing the necessary self-awareness to develop further positive habits and momentum. On the other hand, JT also expands upon the organisational and political barriers to developing mental wellness in educational institutions.
[39:17] As the three discuss the benefits of positive momentum, JT points out that a positive mindset and attitude about oneself is key before the positive momentum can start permeating the areas in life that you want to work towards.
[44:35] In closing JT re-emphasises the need to create easily manageable steps and limiting your focus on particular areas before moving onto the next. But alongside these methods, JT reaffirms the need to have the discipline to commit to these long term changes which can be incremental and slow.

In the latest podcast, Seibo joins Rob to discuss why men should continue to develop EQ, his journey to get to where he is now and commentary on the benefits and potential pitfalls.
02:09 - Intro
Rob explains his process of being a relationship coach where he supports men to open up and engage in areas of their emotional intelligence they are deficient in. Whether that be social, personal and work life, Rob can help.
03:21 - What Does BAD Mean To Rob?
Interestingly this definition changed over time for Rob, from traditionally badass beliefs expected from society to increasing importance on character values and emotional connection. Listeners should note the importance of staying true to the values you, and only you believe in but then having the fortitude to stand tall when your values are challenged from all sides.
05:26 - Origins of a King
In this section Rob explains his embarrassing story; the feelings of shame and the guilt of being ugly felt during his first rejection led him to take those first steps to develop himself and become the person he is now.
Identifying and taking ownership of his shortcomings led him to refine his relationship skills and incorporate social frameworks. Rob shares that even after developing these social skills you are still not guaranteed success; even after finding success, Rob continued to experience empty interactions which eventually lead to suicidal thoughts.
Rob's experience can be quite relatable to other Asian men and highlights the dangers of neglecting all of our emotions or refusal to confront past trauma which can negatively shape our character. Rob commented that strength to express the full range of emotions to the fullest and embrace this side created vibrancy in life he didn't have before - as men, it can be easy to fall into the trap to pursue complete mastery over our emotions, but in its pursuit can prevent us from being human.
12:36 - How to develop EQ
Rob and Seibo discuss how to take small, actionable steps to begin developing EQ. Many of the key areas require an honest dialogue with yourself such as your fears, forgiveness for an experience that can be seen as shameful and addressing negative self-worth. It should be said, many of these areas can be difficult to explore where it is important to move past the ego which can prevent you from exploring these negative emotions and taking steps to resolve them.
Character experience is developed through slow, incremental changes but with continual, positive experiences and breakthroughs. Over time you can make these changes, but it requires complete effort time. While the journey was long, in Rob's eyes it was worth it.
25:16 - Challenges of being an Asian man
Taking this back to the topic of Asian men, the pair explore aspects of Asian men that can be beneficial or a barrier to developing EQ. The ability to conduct root cause analysis can quickly identify areas for improvement, but common traits such as being overly self-critical may inhibit progress.
29:41 - Transformative Change & Creating More Sustainable Relationships
In the last big topic, Rob empathises the need to acknowledge mistakes and not to be overly calculated and curated, which can hinder your ability to create better human relationships. Rob's transformational change was attributed to his ability to express characteristics authentic to himself, taking true ownership of his values and flaws, as well as showing vulnerability; much akin to the characteristics of the Byronic Hero. Defining these traits also allowed him to screen people in his personal and love life to form higher quality communities aligned with his values.
If listeners are sceptical about expressing negative emotions, in Rob's experience it was these difficult experiences that created chances to create strong emotions and stronger bonds between parties.
54:46 - Where to find Rob
57:41 - Closing thoughts
Closing out, Rob leaves listeners with some final encouragement - the values you define are yours alone and if they go against common consensus, it doesn't mean you're broken.

Brandon brings on 3 Sex & Relationship Coaches, sexological body workers, and somatic therapists to shine light on sex, intimacy, and dating for Asian men. This is a recording of a live Q&A Panel hosted back in May 2020.
In this episode, we talked about:
As a Sex and Relationship Coach, my mission is to help people prioritize their pleasure as a way to deepen connection in their relationships.
I’m a big fan of LOVE but I learned through my own personal experience that it isn’t always enough. A few years ago my marriage of almost 30 years exploded and I was forced to go through the most difficult transition of my life. It was through that experience that I came to Somatica Sex & Relationship coaching. Although it was, at times, incredibly painful, I came away transformed and am currently living the life of my dreams, full of passion and more love than I imagined possible. I learned how to access and pursue my own desire and follow where that leads me. Today it has led me to help others like myself to go through similar transformations. A few of the areas that I specialize in are guiding individuals and couples in the journey of consensual non-monogamy and other alternative relationship paradigms and helping individuals explore their sexuality whether that is kink, BDSM, role play or the many other vast sex positive alternatives. I am open to all sexual orientations and identify as queer.
I have a MA in Clinical Psychology and worked for 10 years with children and families. That experience has given me a firm foundation in understanding attachment theory and the ability to explore difficult topics in a non-judgmental, non-shaming, compassionate way.
