Boo! We're celebrating Halloween by a look at some appropriately spooky episodes of a short-lived TV series called "The Charmings" that ran in the late 80s. Have you ever wondered what Snow White and Prince Charming's life would be like if they woke up in late 80s Burbank, California? No? Oh... well, you're gonna find out anyways! Join us as we discuss devilishly charismatic characters, party-planning witches, and the creepiest thing of all: parents who don't respect their children's autonomy. 

We are but weak sailors on the sea, who once again cannot resist the siren song (Or is that swan song) of the Swan Princess series. This month we're diving into what was the start of the "Sequelitis" that infected the series, with the first of two traditionally animated sequels released in the 90s. What Swan Princess lore have we missed out on by skipping over the original sequels in favour of the CGI ones? Who did they try and get to replace Rothbart? Who is Wendy the Swamp Pig? All will be revealed in this episode!

Hit me one time, hit me twice! We're once again delving into our 90s kid childhoods by taking a look at FernGully: The Last Rainforest. A film that lures you in with it's promises of a fun fairy adventure, only to traumatize you with a villain birthed from your darkest nightmares... Or is that just me?Join us as we discuss (among other things) the indominable vocal performances of Tim Curry, the rap stylings of Robin Williams, and Jeffrey Katzenberg being a villain straight out of Captain Planet. 

July marks Kristi's birthday month and for this year that means the podcast is completely disregarding it's premise in favour of taking a look at a childhood favourite film of hers... Digimon: The Movie. Made by mashing up three separate OVA's into one feature length film, this movie is saddled with a very strange meandering plot... but that didn't stop wee-baby Kristi from loving it (It definitely could've used a lot more of Angemon, though).  Join us as we... mostly get distracted talking about other Digimon related topics, but there is some discussion of the movie in there too, I swear!

We're dipping our toes back into the Barbie-verse by taking a look at Barbie: Star Light Adventure, a Barbie movie that dares to ask "What if Barbie... but in Space?". Well, it turns out you get a lot of the same stuff we're used to in the Barbie direct-to-DVD movies, just with a few more hoverboards and robots thrown into the mix. Come and join us as we discuss among other things: Superficially 'quirky' characters designed to avoid losing any marketability, Space Kings and their love of classical music, and the wasted potential of Pupcorn the alien. We also get sidetracked talking about a local amusement park for a little bit. 

We're commemorating the end of MerMay by taking yet another look at a Little Mermaid adaptation, this time from our old chums The Asylum. As you might've guessed The Asylum released this adaptation to cash in on the Disney Live Action Little Mermaid adaptation released that same year, though surprisingly their adaptation is animated (Maybe they didn't want to spring for the costs of getting one of those fancy silicone mermaid tails?). Come and join us as we discuss (Among other things) bald mermaid villains with confusing motivations, a baffling plot with many a hole, and why it doesn't hurt to try things more than once. 

It's April once again, and that mean it's time for our annual "April Fools" celebration with a look at a movie staring a Prince (Or in this case, a 'Prince-to-be'). We're taking a look at George and the Dragon, a movie that aims to tell the 'real' story of the legend of Saint George. Come and join us as we discuss (Among other things) skateboarding medieval monks, Princess Bride-wannabes, and dragon-proof garbage cans. 

We're celebrating Bri's birthday month with a look at a movie of her choosing: Jupiter Ascending! This film is a wild ride from start to finish, and I get to act as the designated "Jupiter Ascending Sherpa" to try and help make sense of it all for Bri, who spends the majority of the summary quietly wheeze-laughing to herself. So come and join us as we discuss (Among other things) Man-Dog-Bird-Alien's and the women who love them, lengthy sci-fi world building that revolves around the consumption of people juice, and why you don't treat your cousin like a chicken. (We're coincidentally releasing this on the Trans Day of Visibility, which we didn't realise would happen while recording or we would've mentioned it in the episode. So I'll take the opportunity now to highlight our love and appreciation for Trans people out there! We see you and we value you)

We're commemorating Valentines Day by taking a look at a romantic fantasy called "I am Dragon", a film that's perfect for all the folks out there who liked Twilight, but thought it could use more scales and fire-breathing. Come and join us as we discuss (Among other things) resourceful protagonists, weird dreams involving Santa Claus and chicken wings, and monster boyfriends and the people who love them.

We're kicking off the 2025 season of our podcast by checking off a New Year's resolution we've held for many years... that's right, we're finally taking a look at a non-Swan Princess adaptation of the Swan Lake story. Specifically, we're taking a look at Swan Lake, Toei Animation's 1981 adaptation of the classic ballet story. Come and join us as we discuss (Among other things) villains you wanna redeem, barn owls being the softest owls to pet, and whether or not this film ends with a bunch of ghosts or if Kristi just pulled that interpretation out of thin air. 

We're wrapping 2024 with our traditional retrospective episode where we look back on what movies we covered on the podcast in the last year. Happy holidays everyone! In this episode we return for the third and final film in the Christmas Prince series, which follows Queen Amber and King Richard as they meander through their very own Scooby-doo-esque adventure. Curses, Christmas, and a third thing that starts with the letter C, this film has it all! So join us as we only slightly lose our minds talking about 600 year old curses, new york bagels, and the hangry seagulls that roam the west coast of Canada. 

We're celebrating what remains of Nutcracker November by taking a look at Nutcracker and the Four Realms, a Disney-fied sequel of the original Nutcracker tale. Think of it as the Disney Descendants version of the Nutcracker, but with much less choreographed dancing (Which uh, doesn't bode well for a story tied to a famous ballet). Join us as we discuss among other things convoluted villain motivations, Nutcracker characters that don't crack a single nut, and being mommy's favourite child. 

We're closing up the Halloween season with a slightly belated spooky movie: This week we're taking a look at Beastly, a modern take on the classic Beauty and the Beast tale. Beastly is no doubt someone's specific cup of tea, but it's certainly not ours (I guess that means we "Don't embrace the suck?"). Come and join us as we discuss among other things unlikeable protagonists, our own high school experiences, and the classic Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen bop "Gimme Pizza". 

The podcast has finally awakened from our long summer slumber and we're doing a bit of catch up by taking a look at the movie Kristi selected to celebrate her birthday... which is not a Princess movie by any stretch of the imagination, but were it not for this movie teaching Kristi that bad movies can be incredibly fascinating, there probably wouldn't be a Bad Princess Movie podcast at all! So come and join us as we... well, as we mostly rant about the wild production stories surrounding Foodfight!, but we also talk about tiny plastic surgeons, no name products, and how Wayne Brady deserved so much better than this movie. 

Get ready to sing and stomp some Goblin feet, this week we're taking a look at The Princess and the Goblin. This film is yet another childhood favourite film for me, but Bri's never seen it before so she's on board to keep my nostalgia in check. Come and join us as we discuss among other things goblins Queens and their stone shoes, magical old ladies and the threads they spin, and whether or not Prince Froglip should be put in the running for Tumblr Sexyman. We'll be starting a summer vacation after this episode, see ya'll in the fall for more episodes!

I thought we were done with the Swan Princess series for a bit, but it turns out the siren song of the first movie was too hard to resist. So we're journeying back 30 years in the past to watch the very first Swan Princess series. How does this film hold up? And more importantly, what juicy Swan Princess lore will we re-discover? Join us as we discuss among other things our childhood nostalgia for this movie, Rothbart being the best villain the series had to offer, and the unexpected surprise of Lorenzo Trudgealong. 

We're celebrating Mer-May the only way we know how, by taking a look at a goofy movie about Mermaid Princesses: Scales: Mermaids are Real. This movie sure the heck tries to make Mermaid puberty seems like a magical thing, while also portraying it as an absolute nightmare (So hey, not too much different than human puberty I suppose?). Come and join us as we discuss among other things mermaid body horror, unnecessary ableist subplots, and how Disney did it better with their Mermaid puberty story, The Thirteenth Year.

We're finishing off our yearly look at movies featuring Prince characters with The Prince and the Surfer, a movie that dares to ask the question "What if Mark Twain was writing for a 90s audience?". This is yet another movie where there was potential to make a decent little family flick, but for whatever reason the story is unfocused, underdeveloped, and worst of all... the titular character doesn't surf! Come and join us as we discuss among other things single Dad's and the subplots that go nowhere, royals that act more like alien visitors than human beings, and whether or not the hoity-toity do indeed like Mini Golf. 

It's April once again and you know what that means... all through the month of April the Bad Princess Movies podcast will be taking a look at movies focused on Prince characters. Our first Prince movie for 2024 is Mio in the Land of Faraway, a film based off a novel by the illustrious Astrid Lindgren (Best known for the Pippi Longstocking series). Kristi has a lot of fondness for this movie, but how does Bri enjoy the tale of little Mio in his adventures in the Land of Faraway? Come and join us as we discuss among other things Aunt Edna being the absolute worst, stone-cold villains and their frog-petting ways, and whether or not this film is best viewed at 1.5 times speed.
