Welcome to Back and Forth
This week, Dan is joined by Vish for a chat all about how hobbies can help you look after your mental health. From Lego builds and flat-pack furniture to the surprisingly addictive world of geocaching, they cover it all. Somewhere along the way, they decide that putting together a bookcase is way more satisfying than painting a wall, and swap stories about pricey Lego sets, DIY disasters, and the little wins that keep you going.
Vish opens up about his dad, whose had limited hobbies because life left no time for anything else, and how that shaped his own view on making time for personal interests. The conversation weaves through the frustrations of public transport, the calm that comes from a good DIY project, and the joy of discovering something new — whether that’s a hidden geocache or a forgotten skill.
It’s an episode about finding fulfilment in the small stuff, making space for the things that make you happy, and surrounding yourself with people who lift you up. Because at the end of the day, hobbies aren’t just pastimes — they’re lifelines.
