Her first race back after the crash was a 3rd place finish at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside and she followed that up with a win at Ironman Texas. We spent some time chatting about the learnings that have come her way over the past year, and on living your life with gratitude.

Matthew Marquardt swam at Princeton and when Covid 19 cancelled the 2020 season, he decided to train for the Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon - where he went 4:05 in his first-ever race. He is now a pro triathlete and is in his second year of medical school at Ohio State. He just raced for the first time as a pro at Ironman Texas and took third overall and was only 8 seconds out of second place and 21 seconds behind the winner, Rudy Von Berg. How about this for a pro debut? He swam 48:59, rode 4:08:12, ran 2:43:08 and finished with an epic time of 7:45:11. This young man is something very special!

It has been 40 years since Ironman legends Dave Scott and Scott Tinley put together a classic battle and had the closest finish in the history of the men's race at the Ironman World Championship back in 1983. At the end of the day only 33 seconds separated them and even Dave Scott admits that if the race was another few hundred yards, Tinley would have caught him. In this epic interview Dave shares his opinions on the the Ironman World Championship moving to Nice for the men this year -not a big fan- plus his thoughts on the running times in Kona. Every time I get the opportunity to chat with 'The Man' I learn something new!!

2022 was lining up to be Kat Matthews’ year. She’d qualified for Kona, was successful at the Sub-8 Challenge, and finished 2nd at the Ironman World Championship in St George. But everything changed when she was hit by a car on a training ride in Texas. The last time we chatted, in Kona, Kat was in a neck brace at banged up from the crash, so it is awesome to see her back and even better to talk with Kat about her first race back in a few days in Oceanside.
