Meet Eric Ye, the Architects Medallion Winner for 2018
Moments after being awarded the Architects Medallion at a ceremony held at the NSW Architects Registration Board, we sat down Eric Ye to talk about his ideas, aspirations and practice. The Architects Medallion has been awarded by the Board since 1924 to a graduate from a NSW school of architecture who has achieved distinction in their studies. Eric Ye is a graduate from the University of Technology Sydney, and he was awarded not just for his outcomes in design studio, but also for his leadership in the co-creation of the Post- publication, and his inclusive work as a tutor of architecture. What is Agency?
Australian and New Zealand students of architecture have been organising their own conferences since the 1960s, and have landed in every major centre across the region since then. This year, Agency was the title of the 2017 Australasian Student Architecture Congress, and the NSW Architects Registration Board was proud to support the first congress to visit Sydney since 1999. It was a real privilege to attend Agency 2017, and in this episode we meet some of the students that brought Agency to life. We reveal where the idea of Congress originated, and explore how Agency came about – and why Sydney this year?

Re-lifing apartment buildings. A co-design model emerges.
What happens when privately-owned apartment buildings need upgrade? Multiple owners - all with their own ideas - can mean it's easier to sell and move, rather than refurbish. But two Sydney researchers want to change that - and give architects and homeowners the tools they need to co-design a new life for old apartment buildings. We sat down with UNSW's Dr Hazel Easthope and University of Sydney's Dr Sandra Loschke to unpack their vision for a more participatory and sustainable approach to apartment redevelopment - research which is being supported by the NSW ARB. For more info or to be involved in the research - https://research.unsw.edu.au/people/associate-professor-hazel-easthope http://sydney.edu.au/architecture/about/people/profiles/sandra.loschke.php?apcode=ACADPROFILE300808

Putting the STE(A)M in to STEM - architecture in the classroom
We love building a better understanding of architecture and design in the community by connecting the public, students, architects and others with information about architecture, design and the world around us. One way we do this is to prepare teaching aids and resources for schools. STEAMpop Co-Director and educator, Annette Mauer is a long-time collaborator and friend of the Board and has been instrumental in helping to develop the ARB's suite of teaching tools, are designed to help students use creative thinking for more effective learning. https://www.architects.nsw.gov.au/public-resources/education http://steampop.zone

Putting the Architects Regulations 2017 in context
On 1 September 2017, a new Architects Regulation went live after first inviting submissions from industry and other stakeholders earlier in the year. The new Regulations contain changes to how courses of architecture are accredited in NSW, how Board members are elected, and in the information that must be included in a written agreement prepared by an architect for their client.
