The World of Education With Matt Denney (Part 2).

Hello and welcome to Aptitude Podcast! On today's episode, we will be continuing our conversation with Matt Denney, who is a mixed race Filipino-American Intimacy Director, Educator, Facilitator and Solo-Artist. Matt is currently located in Tucson, AZ and has worked with many theaters and colleges in the area as an Intimacy Director. He has collaborated with East West Players: The Premiere Asian-American Theatre in Los Angeles and has been a guest artist for the Ottawa Theatre School. Matt is also a previous High School Drama Teacher and specializes in teaching K-12 educators consent-forward curriculum, and has presented his work all across the country and in Canada. He currently is a Teaching Artist for Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC) while studying for his PhD in Higher Education in the research area of “Theatre for Social Change” at the University of Arizona. Matt also is the co-founder of Consent Creatives of Arizona which works towards safety, consent, and healing for rehearsal rooms all across Arizona. During the second part of our conversation, you will learn more about:

  • Matt's path to professional success as an educator.
  • An inside look at the issues facing K12 education today.
  • Both the joy of being an educator, but also the realities of the profession.
  • The importance of getting an early start (and a variety of experiences) in educational spaces as an instructor.
  • Bonus: What it's like working at a photo bar during the height of the instant-print camera craze.
