Shwinao et Happi étaient des sœurs. Elles allèrent un jour au champ, au mois de Mars, pour semer le maïs. Happi sema sur deux billons, se fatigua et s’assit. Shwinao s’efforça et continua à semer son maïs. Elle finit et vint retrouver son aînée Happi assise à l’endroit où elle l’avait laissée. Elle concassait ses palmistes.Elle dit à sa sœur : « Ma grande sœur Hɑ̄wɑ̄, ça te dirait qu’on rentre ? »Sa grande sœur lui répondit : « Tant que ça ne germe pas, je ne bougerai pas » ... Shwinao and Happi were sisters. One day, in March, they went to the farm to sow corn. Happi sowed on two ridges, got tired and sat down. Shwinao struggled and continued to sow her maize. She finished and came back to her elder sister Happi who was sitting at the same place where she had left her before. She was cracking palm kernels. She said to her sister, “My elder sister Hɑ̄wɑ̄, shall we go back home? Her older sister replied, “As long as it does not sprout, I will not budge.” More on that in the book ...
