Answering Some Facebook Hunting Questions

Questions. Everyone has them and most of the time, other people are wondering the same things that you are. Any teacher will tell you “There are no dumb questions” but that was before the days of Facebook. I get asked questions all the time and when I log into any social media account that I have, there that same question is on my screen.

With deer season approaching I get asked questions daily about set up, supplemental feeding, how to target bucks, and more. That last one still gets by me though lol!

So in this episode, I found a few questions on social media and gave my thoughts on them. You might not agree with what I say and that’s fine.

I also did a thing that we used to do with Bayou Bucks Magazine called “Idiots of The Outdoors” where we’d take a writeup about hammerheads that got in trouble with the LDWF, change the names, fabricate a story around the citations, and just have a laugh at their expense. While I didn’t fabricate anything about the illegal deer that was killed in August, I did have a few questions of my own!

And if you like this style podcast, drop me some questions on the Antlers & Hicks Facebook page and I’ll do another one when I get a few good ones that I can expound on…..just don’t ask how to kill monster deer because I’m still trying to figure that out myself!

#43 Jake Ormond's State Record Gar

I caught up with Jake Ormond on Sunday and heard about this fish and it was a good little visit. Also, if you have a kid that likes to fish, you're going to want to listen to this because Jake actually just started a clinic where he teaches kids different levels of fishing skills. I know the record is cool but the coolest thing about this story is how he's out here teaching young people the lessons that he's learned.

This past weekend Jarred Fitch and Curtis Goodling beat the brakes off everyone one at the ARKLA Team Rumble on The River held on the Ouachita River in Monroe, La. I got one of them to talk to me tonight (I'll get you on here one day Curtis). Jarred Fitch is a great fisherman, dad, husband, and friend and tonight we hear some of his background coming up, his history fishing, and how he prepped to win the ARKLA event in Monroe. Trust me, it's not how you expect! Also, give us a like and comment on iTunes and Spotify.....these go A LONG WAY for podcast distribution.

#38 Weeds, Gators, Frogs and More with David Hanson
David Hanson's personality is as big as his truck and airboat combined. He's a great guy who does all he can to help folks in need and right now, the people living on Bayou Desiard in Monroe, La are asking for his help. A nusense alligator has been spotted and it's not a baby! I've known him almost a year now and I knew two things; he'd make a heck of an interview and he's going to get his target gator. In this episode we talk about everything under the sun and we laughed more than anything. Great guy and a great member of the community. Hope you guys enjoy and be sure to give us a rating on iTunes and Spotify.

#37: 2023 Louisiana CWD Findings, The Baiting Ban, and more with Johnathan Bordelon of the LDWF
If you hunt deer in Louisiana, you've probably heard of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The state had it's first confirmed case in early 2022 and since then we've added 11 more cases. Tonight, Johnathan Bordleon drove all the way to my house.....in the poor folks side of Sterlington, La (Ouachita City, Union Parish La. to be exact) to talk about CWD. This is an informative podcast that every deer hunter will need to hear. Hope you guys enjoy it and please give us a rating on iTunes and Spotify.

#36 Hoop Nets, Limb Lines, & YouTube with Bradley Smith
If you've never experienced catching fish in a hoop net, do yourself a favor and find someone to take you. In Louisiana, fishing from nets or traps is a heritage that kept a lot of families fed back in the day....even today. I got with a guy tonight who is carrying that heritage on into our generation and is capturing that life on camera and sharing it on his YouTube channel "God's Country Hunting & Fishing". I hope you guys enjoy Bradley Smith.

2023 Bass Fishing & Trusting Your Instincts with Allen Anders
President Theordore Roosevelt once said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far". I can't help but think of that statement when I think about Allen Anders. He doesn't speak much, he's not flashy, but when he goes fishing, he's a big stick. He and his dad Richard fish the local bass tournaments in North Louisiana and do quite well. They even beat Ben Millican at Caney in January. Millican just won the Bassmasters Open on Toledo Bend, so to me, that's a big deal. Allen came on this week to talk about his year and share some insight on how you can do better yourself. Hope you guys enjoy!

The Future Names of Bass Fishing with Hagen Carter & Gage Struben
Baby faces but killer instincts.  When I first saw these two, I overlooked their abilities because of their age.  Needless to say, I was wrong, and crow doesn't taste very good.  Hagen and Gage fish with the West Ouachita Fishing Team in in the High School Fishing world and are tops in their class.  They've also been competing against some of the best bass anglers in North Louisiana in some of the biggest tournaments around and are definitely holding their own.  This is a good one y'all.
