In this episode, we dive into the deep divide that is cultural appropriation. Where do we draw the line between appreciation and appropriation? Piggybacking off a discussion about the infamous qipao prom incident, guests Anna, Alaina, and Isabelle delve into the origins of cultural appropriation and whether it really is just a piece of clothing.
In part 2 of this episode about quote-unquote positive Asian stereotypes, WashU students Sophia and Adela discuss how their backgrounds shaped both similar and contrasting experiences they’ve had with the Model Minority Myth. Their differences illustrate the diversity that exists within the Asian community; however, their shared sentiments prove that the Model Minority Myth is pervasive and affects Asians around the world.

In this episode hosted by Sheng, Isabelle, and Xin, we explored the paradox of positive Asian stereotypes. Part 1 of this two-part episode features two WashU students, Victoria and Jack, whom we asked to share their experiences and thoughts regarding these stereotypes. Their stories highlighted the fact that these stereotypes are not founded in evidence and often contradict themselves.

In part 2 of Episode 1, Jess picks up where Patrick left off by comparing police practices in the US during the Black Lives Matter movement and in China during the Hong Kong protests. Jess and Patrick also discuss ways Asians can stand in solidarity with the Black community in the fight for social justice. They then shift topics to talk about how WashU clubs can continue hosting events and activities during the pandemic, ending off with how COVID-19 has affected their senior and post-graduation plans and what the future may look like.

After a hectic 2020 summer Jessica and Patrick share some of their opinions on remote learning and the pandemic as well as international and domestic political matters.
