1.11 How to Find Healing from Generational Trauma and Ancestral Wounds with Dulce Orozco, LMHC

Why do people suffer from self-limiting beliefs, and why are these critical for women, especially those of color? How can one break the chains brought by ancestral wounds and generational trauma? In this episode, Dulce and I dive right into one of the deepest root causes of poor boundaries, guilt, shame, and difficulty of managing emotions that are so common for people of color. We unapologetically start from the place of ancestral pain and how this impacts who we are today. Ultimately, the goal becomes to make it easier for women to get the help that they need when they need it to start the journey of healing. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to be raw and candid about my struggles over the past few years living as an immigrant and a person of color. My hope is that this episode will help all women heal from the inside out. The power of our voice and stories matters.

Here's what was covered in this episode:

  • The potent impact of ancestral wounds and generational trauma, including how it affects the parenting of future generations
  • Three things to let go of to start healing
  • How to unlearn and undo traditional mindsets and beliefs passed on through generations
  • Differences in the role of coaches, therapists, and other mental practitioners in trauma work
  • Why therapy work is a partnership - and a commitment
  • The need for emotion neutrality and how a shoebox can teach that
  • The reason "cultural competence" is not enough
