Michael Zuzek Interview and Performance at CFRC Studios
Hello and welcome to our Airwave YGK Musicians-in-Residence podcast edition, originally broadcast on CFRC 101.9 FM and CFRC.ca. In today’s episode, you’ll enjoy a conversation and live studio performance with local emerging artist, Michael Zuzek from November 24th 2024. Zuzek’s creative practice revolves around his background as a classically trained pianist, a path he began in the first grade.  Beyond his formal training through elementary and high school, Zuzek expanded his repertoire to ragtime, pop and rock, drawing significant influence from The Beatles, whose iconic catalogue informs Zuzek’s sound and vocal intensity.  Zuzek released his debut album “Everest” in August 2024, which captured attention on the UK iTunes Pop and Rock Charts.  He has also performed locally including his album release party, a couple of shows at The Tea Room and The Mansion earlier this year, and a live studio performance right here at the station with our CFRC Live Sessions volunteers, video for which you can watch on our website, CFRC.ca.   Michael Zuzek joins us again in this episode as our first artist in the Airwave YGK Musicians-in-Residence program, a project offering opportunities for young and emerging musicians and bands to use CFRC’s recording studios to develop, rehearse, and produce new original songs and also undertake a live-to-air performance.  We’ll enjoy three new songs Zuzek created during his residency at the station entitled “Ghosts,” “Rain”, and “Shine” respectively, followed by a live studio performance of his single, “Graystone.” Don’t forget to follow Michael on Instagram @michaelzuzek to stay up to date with news, upcoming shows and releases including his upcoming gig with local band Jinx at the Mansion on January 10th. This project is made possible through the support of the City of Kingston and Kingston Arts Council, the Dan School of Drama and Music, as well as the Robert H. Black Documentary Residency Fund through the Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University. Thank you for joining us, we hope you enjoy learning about and listening to this amazing musician, Michael Zuzek.
