"From Editor to AI-Powered Director" - Daniel Pineros on Storytelling, Commercial Work, and the Future of Filmmaking

Daniel Pineros started his journey as an editor, where storytelling is built frame by frame, but his career has evolved into something far more dynamic in the age of AI. As a director working in the commercial space, Daniel is at the forefront of integrating AI tools like Sora and V3 into his creative process, fundamentally changing how he approaches client work and pitch development.

In this episode, Daniel shares how AI has transformed his workflow from concept to completion. He discusses using AI tools not just as a replacement for traditional production methods, but as a way to rapidly prototype ideas and present compelling visions to clients. We explore the practical realities of working with AI in commercial production—from the ten generations it might take to get one usable result, to the cultural shift in how brands and audiences perceive AI-generated content.

Daniel's journey from high school video projects to professional commercial directing offers valuable insights for film school graduates entering an industry in rapid transformation. His perspective on AI as a collaborative tool rather than a replacement for human creativity provides a refreshing take on the future of filmmaking, where technical innovation serves storytelling rather than overshadowing it.

Edgar Rosa Producer Emerson / AFI After Film School #018

Edgar Rosa is a multi-racial line producer from Des Moines, Iowa. Growing up in theater and music were the foundation of his artistic endeavors before the film industry. He received his BA in Film Production at Emerson College in 2012 before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his Masters in Producing at the AFI Conservatory. He recently produced the award-winning film "Bob Trevino Likes It," which snagged the SXSW 2024 Audience Award and the Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature.

Edgar began to work professionally in digital media during the rise of YouTube and social media influencers/creators. Over the past few years, he has lent his services on commercials, TV series, and feature films across the world. These jobs have allowed him to build an impressive list of collaborators in a relatively short amount of time. Outside of work, Edgar spends his time educating himself on social justice, volunteering, listening to music, redesigning his apartment, involved in the sex-positive community, and wondering why they haven't arrested the murderers of innocent black, indigenous, and other persons of color from the last 400 years+ in American history.

The new year brings new opportunity as Edgar has several projects on the horizon that will allow him to bring diverse stories to the screen while ensuring equity of crew behind the camera. This is planned with time off to focus on mental and physical well-being. He is grateful to those who align with the balance of these goals.
