Welcome to Active Ingredient - a podcast and platform for those of us who are in the process of co-creating lives and businesses that feel rooted, expansive, resonant and true to us. I'm your host, Sophie Weill, and I'm a deeply curious human who is also on my own journey of co-creating a life and businesses that are true to me. I'm the founder of Nude Nation, a creative brand building agency as well as the co-founder of Piano Piano, a tableware brand rooted in slowing down and coming alive.
I've spent my entire career building and amplifying brands and the humans behind them and what I have come to understand is that the inner work precedes the outer growth and that everything in life is a mirror of our internal state which is precisely what we're here to connect on.
Welcome to Active Ingredient - I am so glad you're here.

If you have been trying to figure out how to build and market your business in alignment and struggle with doing that on social media, this episode is for you. This week, I'm joined by Harry Doull, the founder of Keap Candles, which is a NY-based Benefit Corporation started in 2015 and was inspired by a philosophical question: In an always-on world, how can we reconnect with ourselves and restore our balance with nature? Through artistry and regenerative practices, Keap’s candles have evolved to create what they couldn't find anywhere else: all-natural luxury candles that don't sacrifice scent quality or performance.
His biggest message to the active ingredient community is this: if you're finding a sense of internal misalignment with social media in business and or in your personal life, it is possible to operate without it (as we have been for the past 5 years) — and in fact grow a stronger, more resilient business in the process.
In this episode we are getting into building and marketing in alignment, alternative ways to connect and grow your community in a nourishing way, the power of candles and the element of fire and committing to your own inner vision even if it clashes with the norm.
Keap is offering all Active ingredient listeners 10% off your first order when you use code FINDYOURWHY at checkout - my favorite scents are Wood Cabin and Wild Figs.
*GIVEAWAY* We will also be gifting a candle to 1 active ingredient listener who rates and reviews the show on apple and spotify - all you have to do is submit your review and send a screenshot to my personal IG and you enter to win! I'm currently burning my candle and it really is a goodie.
Time Stamps:
07:14 - The decision to get off of social media entirely
17:35 - Building offline connections with your community and the impact on the business
24:16 - The future of social media and alternative platforms emerging
30:07 - The bigger role candles play in building connection
40:38 - listening and acting on inner guidance and long-term vision in business
55:27 - natural candle making and what makes Keap different

This week's episode is on a topic that I cannot stop learning about/talking about/playing around with it etc - it's all about Human Design and I had the opportunity to be in conversation with one of the world’s leading educators on the topic, Emma Dunwoody who recently launched her book, Human Design Made Simple.
Human Design is a self-discovery umbrella system that encompasses the principles of astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, the chakra system, and quantum physics to reveal how you’re uniquely wired energetically to make decisions, how you interact with others best, and how to best use your energy based on your birth time, birth location and birth date and we get to it in great detail in this episode.
To figure out what your Human Design is get your Human Design Chart HERE
In this episode, we're getting into Human Design as a tool for self understanding/acceptance, trusting when things feel easeful/downstream, following your own curiosities and of course we get into each one of the designs and practical next steps for each one.
Giveaway! We are giving away 2 copies of the book to 2 Active Ingredient listeners who rate and review the podcast on Apple/Spotify. All you have to do is send a screenshot of your review to my instagram @sophieiweill and DM me a pic of the screenshot to enter.

This week's episode is with someone who I would 10000% put in the bucket of a founder who is also an artist. Someone who has and is actively alchemizing her pain and grief into both her purpose and her brand while creating beauty and connection in all that she does. We have Lily Geiger on the show today who is the founder of Figlia - an inclusive non-alcoholic aperitivo alternative that was born out of her desire to serve both humans who actively struggle with alcohol addiction by creating a non-alc product that did not taste like alcoholic beverages that we know as well as humans who are simply not wanting to drink as much but want to have a delicious alternative that feels special to drink out or at home. I fall in that second camp of people who simply feel better drinking way less and am so grateful for brands like Figlia that are meeting us where we're at, creating products we are proud to drink/be seen with, and just make it cool and acceptable to choose products that are better for you.
In this episode we get into Lily's story living with a parent who struggled and lost his battle with alcohol addiction - what that's taught her, the grieving process, leaning on family, alchemizing pain into purpose and now this product, how it's changed her outlook on life and why she created Figlia. We also get into making sure we have a strong sense of our identity outside of the brands we are building and how that separation has helped keep her grounded and on path.
From a branding/launching perspective we're getting into who exactly she's serving, how she bootstrapped to start and has built this business with her best friends, what marketing channels have worked, where she comes alive the most and of course - her process of remembering and returning to her child-like Self.

This week's solo is about consciously creating and allowing for structures/frameworks that work for us and remembering that structures can actually liberate. This is coming from a person who loves/values freedom and fluidity above most things and is a topic that I think is so relevant to so many of us who work for ourselves or are building/co-creating our own lives. It's something I have been SO resistant towards and am finally ready to unlearn/step into. ENJOY <3

Yoga is and has been my #1 tool when it comes to recentering/grounding/connecting to myself and because May is mental health awareness month, I wanted to re-release this episode with my amazing yoga teacher and friend, Mimi Ghandour, all about the practice of yoga, what is actually happening inside during a yoga class, finding (remembering, rather) your real Self, releasing the care of what other people think, and committing to your self/continuing to show up no matter what. It really is the tool that I go back to over and over and over again through tougher seasons (as well as fab seasons!) and am so deeply grateful for the practice. Hope you enjoy <3

The guest of this week's show is with one of my favorite humans - we have my good friend and absolute force of nature in the advertising world, Karla Stewart, on the show. Karla and I first met back in 2018 when she had just left the advertising world after working for some of the world's leading ad agencies like Wieden+Kennedy, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, and 72andSunny and had just ventured out to co-create one of the first-ever hormone-tracking apps, Moody, focused on empowering women with information on their hormonal cycles and fluctuations and how to best work in harmony with your hormones - a topic that is still very much top of mind for her now.
She is now a partner at Tangerine, an independent, female founded and owned recruiting company whose guiding principle is that WHO always beats WHAT and that people are the ultimate resource - she has placed top creative talent at the world’s most innovative and influential companies like Airbnb, Spotify, Expedia, Athleta, Lego, Warby Parker, OpenAI, The New York Times, Mother, Uncommon, BBDO, Droga5 and Blackstone.
In 2020, Karla co-founded Tangerine’s sister company Revelry, a people-centered consultancy that goes beyond talent placement—solving business challenges through people, chemistry, and culture.
Given her background, Karla has made it her mission to bridge the worlds of hormonal health and career performance and longevity for women in their perimenopausal and menopausal phases as her core belief is that we need women in power longer and that the lack of education, tools and support around what is happening to women's internal states and bodies during their perimenopausal and menopausal years is what is leading to women dropping out of the workforce between 40 and 50 simply because their symptoms are not recognized nor managed.
In this episode we are getting into Karla's own journey navigating the advertising world, moving through feeling completely out of alignment, launching a fem-tech hormone tracking business to then stepping into a role that is at the intersection of all of her interests being a talent recruiter and advocate for women. We're getting into what is actually happening to women's bodies, misdiagnoses, and how this affects the future of leadership and we are getting into all things listening to your soul vs ego when it comes to making decisions in your career.
This episode is dedicated to Matthew Stewart <3

In this solo we're getting into the practice of continuously checking in with yourself to see if what you're doing - from a personal and professional standpoint - still feels like you now. We're in a constant evolution that requires a consistent check in and in this episode I'm giving 4 examples of recent experiences I've had with creators/events/brands that have felt like humans that are absolutely creating in a way that feels JUST like them now and them alone.
It would mean so much to me if you could like this video, subscribe to the channel and/or leave a comment if you enjoyed it - I love to hear from the AI group so much :)

This is the first-time I've ever re-released an episode in the history of the show and I felt very called to bring it back up because it is precisely what I needed to hear at this moment in time myself.
We have my favorite author (and my favorite guest to-date) on the show this week, Gay Hendricks, talking about the Upper Limit Problem, our zone of genius and expanding beyond our current capacity. We're also getting into breath work, eating for vitality, choosing things in our life that will keep that light on versus dim it, the fear of being seen, why we self-sabotage, Gay's personal story and so much more.

Today we have the incredible Danielle Mainas, who is an artist, a very intuitive soul, a mother, a tarot card reader and one of the co-founders of Cacio e Pepe tarot - a tarot card brand rooted in connection, food, artistry, joy, presence and spirituality. We don't get into what tarot is until later on in the conversation so for those of you who don't know high level tarot is a tool for self discovery and introspection - it originated in Milan in the 1400s as a game and then evolved into a tool for self exploration. The way that Cacio e Pepe presents the 78 cards is in the form of a unique food, dish, or culinary concept that represents the card. For example, the pancakes card is their take on the 6 of cups and moules frites is their take on the queen of wands. It is truly one of the most beautiful tools that you can just feel was created with so much love - I have mine on my coffee table and it just makes me so happy to look at every day.
In this conversation we dive deep the entire time and are talking about spirituality, self exploration, deconditioning religious programming, accessing higher levels of our brains, quieting enough to listen to our True voice and ultimately gently getting to a place where we are putting the power back in our own selves vs. outsourcing it to external structures.

I have deeeeefinitely wanted to throw in the towel many. a. time. and I do think there is a time and a place to throw the towel and I also do think that a lot of the time it's more about tweaking/shifting the who and the how not so much the what and the why. Here's a lil solo on the topic!

I have a solo for you this week and it's a special one because it is a topic that I cannot stop talking about. I bring it up in every single conversation. I'm talking all things Human Design on this one and just going IN.
I'm getting into:
What is Human Design?
How it can help us start to live/work/create/connect in a way that is sustainable, feels good and aligned in our systems
Why am I so into it as a tool for deconditioning, discovering your natural energy and ultimately giving yourself the permission slip to operate in your own energy
The application of Human Design/practical ways to think about how to test out what you are learning about your own Human Design
Analogies and stories from people in my life that can help us better understand

We have Gabriela Ulloa on this week - a fellow Miami gal that I just love and am so inspired by how she moves in the world. She is a breath of fresh air and I feel you're going to leave this episode feeling so seen and connected.
Gaby is a Cuban-American journalist, host, writer and most recently the creator of Irregardless - a YouTube show and Substack that focuses on amplifying Latin excellence via incredibly rich conversations. She is also a writer for Architectural Digest, The Cut, Byrdie, The New York Times, Refinery29 and more.
In this conversation we are hitting on so many topics that I just know are top of mind for all of us like knowing when to let go of something that served you for a long time - we get into how she knew she was ready to let go of her past podcast - Thoughts May Vary, owning where you come from entirely, finally admitting to yourself and others what you actually want to be doing, we're getting into religion and spirituality and how to connect to your Truest knowing and so much more.
