Charlie Chaplin: A Life From Beginning to End Audiobook by Hourly History
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1008/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Charlie Chaplin: A Life From Beginning to End Author: Hourly History Narrator: Sean Tivenan Format: Unabridged Length: 54 mins Language: English Release date: 12-01-17 Publisher: Hourly History Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: Charlie Chaplin is most famously known for his "tramp" character - the homeless hobo that can be seen hopping from trains and lining up in the soup kitchens of the Great Depression. At a time when the whole world was struggling from economic meltdown, Charlie Chaplin made "destitute" a term of endearment. We may laugh when we see Charlie Chaplin so broke that he has to boil his shoes and eat them, but during the worst parts of the economic collapse of the 1920s and 1930s, some people had to do just that. So, at the time, even though many would laugh at the crazy tramp's antics, they could also relate and identify with them. And the fact that Charlie Chaplin's tramp character could be completely broke with his pockets turned out, sitting in a gutter with the rain pouring down, yet still be happy, gave people quite a bit of encouragement. People thought that if the homeless, wandering tramp portrayed in Chaplin's films could get through such rough times and be all right, maybe they could too. As goofy as some of Chaplin's slapstick comedic moments are in his films, it was the way he just kept trundling along, even in the face of great adversity that empowered so many. It was this tantalizing glimpse of hope more than anything else, that kept them coming back for more.

Title: Unseen Subtitle: My Journey Author: Reggie Yates Narrator: Reggie Yates Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 42 mins Language: English Release date: 10-26-17 Publisher: Random House Audiobooks Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: Random House presents the audiobook edition of Unseen, written and read by Reggie Yates. From Grange Hill to Top of the Pops, Reggie Yates has been on camera nearly all of his life, but it's as a documentary filmmaker - and a pretty fearless one at that - where he has truly been making his mark, investigating everything from gun crime in Chicago to life as a refugee in Iraq. In his first book, Unseen, Reggie takes us behind the scenes on his journey from TV host to documentary storyteller. Using some of the key moments and extreme circumstances he has found himself in, Reggie examines what he has learned about the world and about himself as a person. Beginning as a brief exploration of Reggie's relationship with the camera and life growing up on screen, Unseen explores the journey Reggie has taken in the documentary world. Initially resistant to documentary making, Reggie was convinced his point of view as a young black working-class man with a history in music, children's TV and entertainment would not make his films remotely credible. Through conflict and challenges onscreen, the understanding gained from the very thing once seen as a weakness would become his strength on camera, as the eye of the everyman and voice of the audience. Unseen unpicks the stories behind the fascinating characters and situations Reggie encounters across a series of films as well as chronicling the personal growth through each testing shoot for Yates himself.

Title: No Nonsense Subtitle: The Autobiography Author: Joey Barton Narrator: Joey Barton Format: Unabridged Length: 10 hrs and 21 mins Language: English Release date: 10-12-17 Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio UK Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: So, you think you know Joey Barton. Think again. No Nonsense is a game-changing autobiography which will redefine the most fascinating figure in British football. It is the raw yet redemptive story of a man shaped by rejection and the consequences of his mistakes. He has represented England and been a pivotal player for Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Marseille, Burnley and Glasgow Rangers, but his career has featured recurring controversy. The low point of being sent to prison for assault in 2008 proved to be the catalyst for the reevaluation of his life. No Nonsense reflects Barton's character - it is candid, challenging, entertaining and intelligent. He does not spare himself in revealing the formative influences of a tough upbringing in Liverpool and gives a survivor's insight into a game which, to use his phrase, 'eats people alive'. The audiobook is emotionally driven and explains how he has redirected his energies since the birth of his children. In addition to dealing with his past, he expands on his plans for the future. In this updated edition he speaks frankly about the gambling addiction that has left him facing a hefty ban. The millions who follow his commentaries on social media and those who witnessed him on BBC's Question Time will be given another reason to pause, and look beyond the caricature.

Title: Wrecking Ball Author: Billy Vunipola Narrator: Nathan Turner Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 56 mins Language: English Release date: 09-21-17 Publisher: Headline Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: Wrecking Ball is a captivating and humorous memoir by Billy Vunipola, arguably the most potent weapon currently in English rugby's armoury. Standing at six foot two inches and weighing almost 20 stone, Vunipola is a rampaging and unmissable presence on the rugby pitch. His awesome physicality and pulsating runs have been one of the chief factors in England's dramatic upturn in fortunes. Ball in hand, Vunipola is a relentless, unbridled, unstoppable force of nature for his country and for his club side Saracens. He was awarded three separate Man of the Match awards as England swept to the 2016 Grand Slam, and a couple of months later he proved a huge thorn in Australian sides as Eddie Jones' rejuvenated team whitewashed the Wallabies 3-0 in their own backyard. Wrecking Ball is a wonderfully eccentric and witty book, with bags of charm and humour. It captures this young man's appealing personality and charisma, and covers Vunipola's peripatetic early years in Sydney then Wales, before he settled down in England to truly find his feet as a modern English rugby hero.

History for Kids: The Illustrated Lives of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse Audiobook
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1008/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: History for Kids: The Illustrated Lives of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Tracey Norman Format: Unabridged Length: 34 mins Language: English Release date: 08-09-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: Perfect for ages 7-9. Includes oral legends about Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and the Sioux. Explains the Battle of the Little Bighorn. In Charles River Editors' History for Kids series, your children can learn about history's most important people and events in an easy, entertaining, and educational way. The concise, but comprehensive audiobook, will keep your kid's attention all the way to the end. Like Geronimo in the southwest during the same era, Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse were warriors and leaders of different groups of Lakota (Sioux), who fought in several skirmishes against settlers and U.S. forces across the Plains, during the 1860s and 1870s. Admired by their own people for their kindness and strong leadership, reviled by their enemies for their defiance, when The Great Sioux War of 1876 began, Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse were two of the most important leaders among all Native American tribes on the Plains, and they were the ones to turn to for those who intended to keep fighting whites. Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse were hardly the only Native Americans fighting the US Army at the time, but they became legends at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, during which an estimated 2,000 Lakota and Cheyenne warriors led by Crazy Horse, and inspired by one of Sitting Bull's visions, routed, and then annihilated the 7th US Cavalry, led by George Custer. That disaster led the American government to double down on its efforts to "pacify" the Sioux, and by the end of the decade, many of them had surrendered, and been moved onto a reservation. Crazy Horse kept fighting for a year before surrendering, and Sitting Bull defiantly refused to surrender, instead, heading with a smaller band into Canada, and remaining exiled. When they finally did surrender, and the threat they posed eliminated, Americans viewed the two Native Americans as celebrities. Sitting Bull even went on to appear in Buffalo Bill Codys Wild West Show during the 1880s. However, the two Lakota leaders would be connected in one more way: death. The deaths of both Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse took place on reservations, and remain controversial to this day. History for Kids: The Illustrated Lives of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, chronicles the amazing lives of the Sioux leaders, who defiantly fought to save their peoples homeland, but it also humanizes the men who became two of the most famous Native Americans in American history. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events, your kids will learn about Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse like never before.

I am so beyond excited to finally share with you my big secret. This audiobook is about my journey from start to finish, right up to what I'm looking for in the future. What an adventure it has been to write! I have laughed, cried, cringed and beamed with pride recounting all the crazy stories I have put into it. The 'Love' chapter needed to be completely rewritten halfway through, which was toughbut it worked a bit like therapy and has taught me so much about myself. I pinch myself all the time over how fortunate I have been. Not only was I born into the most magical family and given the most unique childhood - being part of a foster family full of love - but six years ago I landed a place on a little BAFTA award-winning show called TOWIE (I know, six years - crazy, right?). Through it I have grown from a quiet, vulnerable teenager who was honestly a bit lost in life into an entrepreneur, fund-raiser and worldwide adventurer, all before my 22nd birthday. Alongside my story I've shared everything I now know that I wish I had back then, from dating rules to makeup routines and the amazing workout that got me bikini ready for my TOWIE return in 2014. I've even packed it full of my favourite inspirational quotes, recipes, and photos (the good, the bad and the ugly!). So fingers and toes crossed that you like it. ;) Live, Laugh, Love, Always, Lydia. Written and read by Lydia Bright.

Often faced with frozen tundra, sweltering deserts, humid jungles, perilous mountains and fast-flowing rivers, Megan Hine is no stranger to perilous conditions. Whilst leading expeditions and bushcraft survival courses, and in her work on television shows such as Bear Gryll's Mission Survive and Running Wild, she has explored the corners of the globe in pursuit of adventure. Faced with the toughest of conditions - bad weather, lack of food and being in the presence of predators - is the ultimate test of character, and often the biggest challenge to overcome is in the head. In these situations the human brain is simultaneously the greatest asset and biggest liability. Not everyone is suited to the great outdoors, and when danger calls many aren't as well equipped to survive; no amount of top-of-the-range kit will save you if you don't have the right frame of mind. Here Megan Hine examines the human ability and instinct for survival, showing us how others have developed the attitudes and attributes to thrive in the most dangerous situations and how those same attitudes and attributes help them confront problems and obstacles at work and at home. Being chased through the jungle by armed opium farm guards, abseiling past bears and lighting fires with tampons - Megan has seen and done it all. In Mind of a Survivor, she takes you along for a series of life-and-death adventures and shows you what happens to people when they are pushed to their limits. Inspirational rather than instructional, Mind of a Survivor examines the human ability and instinct for survival, sharing the life tools that Megan uses and showing how they can as easily be applied to more domestic everyday life - from careers to relationships, from overcoming adversity to decision making. Filled with Megan's own experiences, Mind of a Survivor is packed full of adventure and can help people survive in any situation and cope with whatever life throws at them. Critic Reviews: "This book powerfully uncovers the layers of where people draw strength from in their time of crisis - moving and inspiring." (Bear Grylls)

American Legends: The Life of Montgomery Clift Audiobook by Charles River Editors
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1008/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: American Legends: The Life of Montgomery Clift Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Scott Clem Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 6 mins Language: English Release date: 04-26-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: A lot of ink has been spilled covering the lives of history's most influential figures, but how much of the forest is lost for the trees? In Charles River Editors' American Legends series, listeners can get caught up to speed on the lives of America's most important men and women in the time it takes to finish a commute, while learning interesting facts long forgotten or never known. In the World War II and post-war era, the figure of the male hero who was previously presented as an invulnerable, single-minded, and to a larger degree monolithic and unknowable warrior, began to develop into a more multi-faceted and intriguing character in the most important Hollywood films. This was to signal, and in a sense impel the same change in American society that has always mirrored itself after its cinematic models. Much like the era of Austen and the Bronte sisters, the American hero softened to resemble the older British one, vulnerable and uncertain, but still passionate and determined. In Edward Montgomery Clift, the public not only discovered an unusually gifted actor, but a persistent and stoical anti-authoritarian, an extreme non-conformist in a conformist age and a personal enigma who has remained the target of prying Hollywood reporting since his death. Described as the first "method" actor in Hollywood, he was to co-create and develop this lonely, unwilling, and uncertain American hero, filled with deep personal ambiguities, a conflicting will, vulnerable and sensitive. In his eventual arrival to Hollywood following a lengthy period of resistance, he not only embodied this new male model, but inspired the next generation of fascinating characters who didn't "fit in", such as friends Marlon Brando and James Dean. He added to this screen persona a sexual dualism that, while not apparent on the surface, changed the way leading men were perceived by the late 1940s. A first-rate stage actor, Clift approached Hollywood on his own terms, and permanently upset the ruling order of the studio-to-star system, in which long-term contracts guaranteed corporate ownership of the artist, and in which casting was often based more on familiarity than suitability or acting skills. Obscuring Clift's evident gifts as a special actor of his generation is the persistent ruminating on his personal tortures, not only as a drug addict and alcoholic, but as a sexually split identity playing the handsome leading man on the screen while unable to find a haven in American society in his private time. The combination of these forces shortened Clift's career and life considerably, despite some of his finest performances being filmed in a state of near delirium and mental collapse. Somehow able to tap into his extraordinary gifts at the lowest moments, he struggled through his final films, evoking success when he should have been undergoing treatment. He even secured a fourth Oscar nomination for a 10-minute scene that was entirely improvised, as he was unable to remember a single line of the script. He was, at the last, a great American leading man who was, at the same time, virtually unemployable. Among the hardest men to know in the Hollywood industry, Clift was nevertheless treated with affection by most of his fellow actors who simply called him Monty, as he had been called his whole life.

Legends of Hollywood Audiobook by Charles River Editors
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1008/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Legends of Hollywood Subtitle: The Life of Rudolph Valentino Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Doron Alon Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 2 mins Language: English Release date: 04-05-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: Everything about Rudolph Valentino, from his body to the characters he played, was exotic. His career may have been abbreviated by his premature death at the age of 31, but Valentino popularized the (somewhat racist) stereotype of the "Latin lover" in Hollywood, and even his name was markedly more out of the ordinary than those of other actors. In an era dominated by hyper-masculine actors like Douglas Fairbanks, or comedians such as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, Valentino had a more ethnic and mysterious appeal, and he was lusted after by women to a degree that remains unsurpassed in the industry. The extent to which he captivated America can be seen in the response to his death; after passing away from a perforated ulcer in 1926, Ashton Trice and Samuel Holland note that his funeral "was one of the pop culture events of the century", and devastated women are alleged to have committed suicide out of heartbreak. If Valentino's public persona was exotic, his personal life and background were no less fantastic, to the extent that it rivaled the improbable narratives of his movies. While he was identified as a Latin American in his films, Rudolph was actually born in Italy, the descendant of French and Italian heritage. The circuitous path that saw him reach the United States, and subsequently the film industry, is replete with outrageous good fortune. Even at an early age, Valentino was a dreamer, but there was no way that he could have anticipated the level of success he would achieve not long after landing in Ellis Island in the winter of 1913.

My Life to Live Audiobook by Agnes Nixon, Carol Burnett - foreword
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1008/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: My Life to Live Subtitle: How I Became the Queen of Soaps When Men Ruled the Airwaves Author: Agnes Nixon, Carol Burnett - foreword Narrator: Judith Ivey, Carol Burnett Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 11 mins Language: English Release date: 03-21-17 Publisher: Random House Audio Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 13 votes Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities Publisher's Summary: From the Emmy-winning writer and creator of All My Children, One Life to Live, and Loving, a memoir of her trailblazing rise to the top of the television industry, including behind-the-scenes stories from some of the most beloved soaps of all time. Before there was Erica Kane, Adam Chandler, or Victoria Lord, there was Agnes Nixon, a young girl who dreamed up stories for paper dolls. Those tales she imagined - ones filled with ambitions, rivalries, and romances - would soon echo her own path to success. In a memoir filled with as much drama as the soaps she penned, Nixon shares her journey as daughter of a broken marriage who fought back against her father's wish that she take over the family burial garments business, overcame the heartbreak of losing her fiancé in WWII, and later became one of the most successful names in the TV industry. Fans of Nixon's greatest creations, All My Children and One Life to Live, will delight at Nixon's own incredible life as well as the behind-the-scenes insight she lends to daytime's most popular programs. Nixon will share the inspiration behind and casting of the iconic character Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci; the story bible for All My Children, and how it became lost and then locked away in a drawer for many years; and how Nixon positioned ABC to become the media giant it is today, despite pushback from her male counterparts. This candid glimpse behind the curtain of the soap opera industry will charm soap fans and story lovers alike. With a foreword written and read by Carol Burnett. Critic Reviews: "I owe my career to Agnes Nixon, who was not only a brilliant creator and writer, but also my friend. My Life to Live is full of wonderful, evocative stories from her life and career that even I hadn't heard. And in typical Agnes fashion, her storytelling is full of humanity, social relevance and delicious humor! I know that her legions of fans will treasure it as much as I do." (Susan Lucci) "Aggie Nixon is the only person I've ever known whom I didn't say awful things about. And much to my dismay, her memoir did nothing to change that. Unforgivable." (Larry David) "[Agnes's] career wasn't easy to come by.... We know she won, but the story of her ups and downs make this book a true page-turner." (Carol Burnett, from the foreword)
