In Chapter 3 the author reflects on the relationship between the work and the artist, the composer and the performer, style and delivery. This includes very interesting excursions into the nature and state of Oratorio.

Chapter 2, where the author continues his inquiry into the how we define Singing and what the parameters of the question, and the Art, should be. He looks at the history of the Italian schools and begins his reflections on the relation of language and articulation and the voice in its broader compass as an instrument.
