Episode 49 - The Tale of Despereaux
This week, we’ll read a story centered around a fable. It’s not completely about a fable but a little mouse likes one. Now that you have some context...ish, you can probably guess that this is “The Tale of Despereaux.” I really like this book too so I’ll introduce you and you can decide if you want to check it out. It’s by Kate DiCamillo so do anything you want and again I don’t wanna be like “AHH READ THIS NOW” but I really do recommend it. We’ll read the first chapter and then that’s it! Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 48 - The Wolf Wilder, Chapter 2
I hope you remember when we read the first chapter in the book “The Wolf Wilder,” because I’ve decided to read the next chapter. If you want, you can listen to the first chapter, which is episode 32. I highly suggest you read the book, but I’m not here to force you. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 47 - Blunt Aesop
We’re reading more of Aesop's fables because they’re short and funny and I can talk about them. So, we’re going to start off with “The Man, the Boy and the Donkey,” about pleasing other people. Second, we have “The Fox Without a Tail,” which follows a fox with a damaged pride. Lastly, a story of an obsession gone out of limits, “The Lion in Love.” Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 46 - Chinese Tales of Misconception
I have something to talk about. I’ve realized I’m starting to run out of stories to read, so I’m going to draw the line and end the podcast when I don’t have any more tales for you. Just thought I’d tell you guys. So, to start off, we’ll have “The Monkeys Save the Moon,” which tells the tale of misconception. Then, we’ve got “Moving Away,” which follows a couple with misplaced talents. So without further ado, let’s start reading! Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 45 - Aesop’s Fables
I found some fables by Aesop because I figured Aesop has pretty classic works and it was kinda funny that we’ve never read any of his stories. So, the first one will be “The Frog and the Ox,” about overactive and dangerous pride. The next one is about giving up, called “The Fox and the Grapes.” Last, we have “The Man and the Satyr” which ends in a question I’ve always wondered about. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 44 - More Philosophy
Last week, we read two philosophical tales. Now, we’re reading more because I like these stories. We’ll start with “The Hungry Kaftan,” adapted by Erich Kaniok again. Then we’ll have “The Calabash of Rice,” also adapted by our legend Mr. Erich. Once again, I’ll write some morals based on the central theme written at the end of the book. And before we start I’m going to say thank you to our new listeners from Finland, Canada, Romania, Brazil, Indonesia, and Spain! I appreciate the support! Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 43 - Philosophy???
My mom loves philosophy. That may seem a little weird and off topic, but it ties into the stories we’re reading today. She gave me a philosophy book she thought I would like, and I got to reading them. I picked two out, so here they are! To begin, we have “Two Crooked Bricks,” a story about small imperfections by Erich Kaniok. Second up is “The Stonemason,” which is about a wish and greed, also by Erich Kaniok. I’m not actually entirely sure if we’ve read this one before, but I like it so here we are. These stories have hidden meanings, so I’ll root out the morals for you. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 42 - Once Upon a Time Lived a Wholesome Japanese
Today, we’ve got two Japanese tales. The first one is a heartfelt, more wholesome-driven story. It takes place on New Year’s Eve, follows a poor couple, and is called “Bamboo Hats for Jizo.” Another more caring one called “The Magic Bandana” is about a mother fox’s gift to a kind man. I think when we started, it was a lot more dark, like a tanuki killing an old woman, and a witch blinding a prince. But now, we’ve got a lot more sweetness and kindness. But I’m not complaining.

Episode 41 - The Emperor’s New Clothes
This week, we have a classic, memorable work of writing that some of you may or may not know. Before I introduce it, however, I must say that I actually had a copy of this that was made for kids but I never really liked it. I fortunately found a copy that looked more like it was written by the original author. So, I decided to give it a shot. You’re probably all wondering what it is by now but the title is “The Emperor’s New Clothes” by Hans Christian Andersen. It’s been a while since we’ve read something by him, so here we go. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 37 - Sweden: The Evil One
This week, I asked my good friend Keilani to suggest what kind of story to read and she said stories from Sweden. So, I’ve found two great fables just for you. Yes, you’re very special. The first tale we’ll read is “The Poor Devil,” about the mistreated evil one. Then we’ll follow the dark one again in “The Evil One and Kitta Grau,” which tells a tale of a heroine outsmarting the devil himself. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Episode 36 - Rice, Geese, & Cakes
This week’s stories all come from China and all come from places I can’t pronounce. So when I finish them, don’t be surprised if I completely butcher the names. The first fable will be “Yen Hui Sneaks a Handful of Rice?” with a question mark. We’ll find out why that punctuation is put there at the end of the story and then move on to “ Shooting Down a Goose,” a tale about a bird with PTSD. Lastly, we have “A Man, a Wife, and a Cake,” which follows a very arrogant and selfish couple. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

A Grimm Podcast, Ep. 34 - Kintaro (Feat. special guest Keilani!)
Today is another special episode because I brought a friend! Okay, before we start, I have a confession to make. My name isn’t really Sylvi Luna. I know, so dramatic, right? I thought it was cool to just keep it like that, but it’s not really that awesome. So my real name is Stella. I should probably say sorry right? Yeah. Sorry. I guess I thought it was awesome that I could keep my identity to myself but no one really cares though right? As long as I don’t tell you my address. The important part is that we’ve got an episode today! I was super busy last weekend, so I’m sorry I couldn’t get an episode out. I feel like I say sorry a lot. Maybe I just gotta be more responsible… But let’s focus on the podcast. The tale we’ll read is a Japanese short story called “Kintaro,” about a boy and his animal friends. Then, we’ll discuss it and then we’ll be done. But before we officially begin, be sure to look out for our new podcast, “Marveled,” coming out today! We’ll be covering all the new Marvel Studios content, including “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision,” and more upcoming things! So, be sure to look out for it for all you Marvel nerds! Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

A Grimm Podcast, Ep. 33 - Mother Holle
Today, we’ll talk about a new English tale from the classic Brothers Grimm, “Mother Holle.” It’s just this one because I’m in a rush… again. I’m gonna try to stretch it out so it’s at least 5 minutes because I realized that one of my more rushed ones was only 4 minutes and 55 seconds and it really bothers me because it’s not quite 5 minutes and I realize it’s not that much content. I’m sorry about that episode, but let’s focus on this one, shall we? This story is going to have some terms even I had to look up and think about so I’m gonna explain them. The word pitch, which is used later in the story, means tar or turpentine in ond English and cock means chicken, just in case I gotta review. Before I sign off, I just wanna make sure to tell you to look out for next week’s episode, because I’ll have a mystery surprise guest! Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

A Grimm Podcast, Ep. 32 - A Very Special Episode!
Today, I’m going to have a special episode, featuring a preview of one of my favorite books of all time, “The Wolf Wilder.” I’m going to read the first chapter and see how well it goes, and maybe I’ll read the second chapter some other time. Okay, so I didn’t get any emails or messages from last week’s episode covering the theories of “Urashima Taro”’s dream-like experience, but that’s okay. I’ll just tell you what I think. So, I don’t think it was a dream, since he would be able to just wake up if he really thought it was in his mind. I think it could be possible that Taro was tricked by the citizens of the Dragon Palace, since that’s not the only time it’s happened. You all remember what they were going to do with the monkey’s liver, right? So why not something similar with Taro? I don’t know, it’s just a theory, but I think it’s still a possibility. Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!

Today’s stories will be little Japanese tales that show what happens if you give some things a little bit of time. To begin, we have “Urashima Taro,” a more sweet and melancholy story. Then, we’ll go on to read “The One-Straw Millionaire,” a story with a whole lot of luck. Now, I’m going to point out that we’ve got new listeners from Estonia and France! Thanks for joining me. A Grimm Podcast, Ep. 30 - Yang Pu is Salty
This week’s stories will be of mix-ups. The first one will be “Why the Sea is Salty”... just like me. The next tale is a Chinese fable called “Yang Pu Beats His Dog,” which already sounds really cruel. Okay, this segment is to address everyone anywhere and everywhere who’s listening. I wanna just read out where you guys are listening from because this is wild. I just think this is crazy. I mean every time I look at my analytics I see all these countries and I can’t believe this podcast is making it out there and people are listening there. I mean it just makes me unbelievably happy. What I’m trying to say is, thank you so much everybody, wherever you are. :) Enjoy the ride, Grimmlings!
