Sunday 08 June 2025 - Watch and pray
I Peter 5:8-10 NKJV
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.”
Prayer : Father help me that I may be ready for whatever comes my way in Jesus name.
Watch - Observe / examine / scrutinize
Pray - stay in contact with God with your voice
We have many believers today who are pretty decent in prayer, but beyond that pay little to no attention to understand what is going on around them.
I believe Christ was intentional when He said ‘’watch”.
It is important for a believer to take note of what is happening in the spirit as well as around them.
Luke 21:36 NKJV
Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."
Most believers are good at warfare and yet lay little to attention to what is going on around them.
Understand that life events are not coincidences.
One way or another, there is a cause and/or reason.
Matthew 26:40-41 NKJV
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? [41] Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
How do you tell that something is wrong if you cannot pay attention?
You need to be alert to realize that there is a temptation around.
Acts 13:4-11 NKJV
So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. [5] And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant. [6] Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, [7] who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. [8] But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. [9] Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him [10] and said, "O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? [11] And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time." And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
