A Special Type of Dog Park

🎙️ Next Episode: Mutts in the 6ix — Where Dogs and Humans Unite in Style

Imagine a place where your dog can run free, play, and socialize — while you relax with a coffee, a cocktail, or a great meal. Mutts in the 6ix is the first of its kind in Canada: a vibrant, safe, and beautiful space created for both dogs and their humans.

In this episode of A Dog’s Devotion, we explore how this Toronto gem is redefining what it means to be a dog lover in the city. It’s more than a park — it’s a community built on joy, connection, and the belief that our dogs deserve the best of everything.

Whether you’re a local looking for a new weekend spot or a dog parent dreaming of the perfect hangout, this episode will make you wish every city had a place like Mutts in the 6ix.
I speak with the owner and founder Sylvia Larke about her own journey through the US and how she realized there was another way for dogs and their humans to gather. She is a true inspiration, and l so enjoyed my conversation with her. If you have a dog, you know it is a great way to meet people, this location is in Toronto, Canada, but there are many similiar through out the United States.
I hope you enjoy this epsiode, it is about dogs of course, but also about the resilience of a woman who had a vision and fought for it. She never gave up!
Thanks for listening and please share with fellow dog lovers.

How Therapy Dogs Can Help With Grief

Welcome to A Dog’s Devotion, the heartfelt podcast that celebrates the incredible bond between humans and dogs.

In this episode, we’re exploring the power of healing — the kind that comes not from medicine, but from a wagging tail and a gentle paw. The Alliance of Therapy Dogs brings comfort, companionship, and compassion to people who need it most — from patients in hospitals to residents in senior care homes, and those walking through the heavy fog of grief.

These special dogs have a remarkable gift — they don’t just visit; they connect. They lift spirits, ease loneliness, and remind us that love can be felt in the soft nudge of a nose or the warmth of fur resting beside us.

Today, we’ll learn how therapy dogs and their dedicated handlers are bringing hope and healing across communities, one visit — and one heartbeat — at a time.
Dogs are so special and help us with so much, they help us through everyday life, through pain and grief, and all they ever do is give us love, asking nothing in return.

Adopt A Shelter Dog Month

Welcome to A Dog’s Devotion.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month — and this episode is one that means so much to me personally. Because my own rescue, Max, came from a shelter in Mexico. He wasn’t just a dog I adopted — he was the dog who rescued me right back.

In this episode, I share my story — how I first learned about Max, the long journey that brought him from the streets of Mexico to a new life in Calgary, and the incredible woman who made it all possible. You’ll meet Jaimee, his amazing foster mom from Pawsitive Match Rescue. She’s the one who picked him up, cared for him, and gave him the chance to start again.

When I met Max, something changed in me forever. It was instant — like he had been waiting for me all along. And now, years later, I can tell you with all my heart — adopting a rescue dog doesn’t just change their life… it changes yours in ways you could never imagine.

Across North America, shelters are overflowing. So many dogs — young and old, big and small — are waiting for someone to give them a second chance. This month, and every month, I hope this episode inspires you to visit your local shelter, consider fostering, or even adopt a dog who needs you.

Because every rescue has a story. And sometimes, that story becomes the most beautiful chapter of your life. Along with my rescue of Max, was of course the harsh reality of dealing with his passing. A grieving process that is very real. Dog loss is real, and heart breaking. But time will heal, and one day l will reach out to Pawsitive Match again, and find my next Max.

The Uber Dog

We're re-running this episode because it touched so many hearts the first time around.

In this special episode of A Dog’s Devotion, I sit down with Kevin Ferman, an Uber driver with an extraordinary co-pilot—his beloved dog Bowie. Together, they’ve become a social media sensation known as @the_uber_dog, amassing over 640,000 followers. But it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about the joy they bring to every single ride.

Kevin’s dog isn’t just along for the drive; he’s an active part of the experience, offering comfort, connection, and sometimes even a cuddle to passengers. Their bond is beautiful, and their mission is simple yet powerful: spread happiness, one ride at a time.

This conversation resonated deeply with listeners, so we’re bringing it back for anyone who missed it—or those who just want to experience the magic again. It’s a feel-good story about love, loyalty, and the unexpected ways dogs change our lives.

Best Boy Brodie

“We’re re-releasing one of our favorites — Best Boy Brodie! With his one-of-a-kind look, big heart, and incredible story, Brodie has inspired people all around the world. Get ready to fall in love with him all over again.”

In this episode of A Dog’s Devotion, I’m joined by Amanda, the proud mom of Instagram sensation Best Boy Brodie. With his adorably off-kilter snout and unmistakable charm, Brodie may not fit the mold of “perfect”—but that’s exactly what makes him so lovable. His unique face captured Amanda’s heart in an instant, and now he’s captured the hearts of people all over the world.

Together, we talk about the beauty of imperfections, the power of connection, and why dogs like Brodie remind us that what makes us different is often what makes us most special. I have a feeling you’ll fall in love with Brodie too.

This episode is a celebration of every dog who’s been overlooked for not fitting the mold—and a reminder that the ones who look a little different often give the most love. Let Brodie’s story inspire you to see beauty beyond appearances and maybe even adopt your own perfectly imperfect pup.

Eddie On Wheels

“We’re bringing back one of our most loved episodes — Eddie on Wheels! This little Yorkie, with his wild hair, big attitude, and unstoppable spirit on wheels, stole so many hearts. Get ready to smile all over again as Eddie rolls in to brighten your day.”

Today’s episode is one that will touch your heart and open your eyes to the resilience of the canine spirit. I’m joined by the remarkable Lisa Mattuchio, the devoted human behind Eddie on Wheels—a national sensation who captured the world’s attention, not with pity, but with joy, determination, and a set of wheels.

Eddie, a senior dog with mobility challenges, rolled into people’s lives through Lisa’s uplifting videos—reminding us all that a dog doesn’t need four working legs to live fully and love unconditionally. Eddie’s spark lit a fire that continues to burn in his honour. After his passing, Lisa founded Eddie’s Ranch—a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and loving senior and disabled dogs, giving them the care and dignity they deserve.

This is a story of devotion, legacy, and second chances. Lisa’s journey with Eddie—and the impact it continues to have—is nothing short of extraordinary.

Do dogs have emotions?

Today, I’m thrilled to welcome Holly, an animal welfare scientist whose work with the Canine Science Collaboratory is both groundbreaking and heartwarming. Her research focuses on something that’s at the very core of this podcast—the positive emotional states of dogs, and how we, as humans, interpret their happiness. Holly’s work isn’t just about science—it’s about deepening our connection with our dogs, learning to see and honor the emotions they experience every day. I can’t wait to explore how understanding a dog’s joy can change the way we live with, love, and care for them.

This episode will be the last one of the season. We have done a lot of work honouring Max the past year, and will now take a bit of a break. Max passed on August 21, 2024.
Love your dogs and always appreciate the time you have with them.
A Dog's Devotion will be back September 21st.
Thank you for llstening, and in the mean time we will be playing some of our season's highlights just in case you missed them.

See you soon!

Here, vulnerable animals are given a second chance at life, and the people who care for them often discover their own path to peace and renewal.

What makes Dog Heaven different is its belief that the connection between animals and humans can be profoundly transformative. This is a place where trauma meets compassion, and where broken hearts—both canine and human—begin to mend, together.
