While exploring the theme of travel literature on India in English language, I pick a different book for today's episode. Imaginary Homelands by Salman Rushdie. The book is a collection of essays that explores themes of migration, identity, literature, and politics. Through the lens of his own experience as an Indian migrant, Rushdie examines how individuals create "imaginary homelands" in their minds to cope with displacement, using memory and imagination to bridge the gap between their past and present. In one of the essays, Rushdie travels to Delhi and talks about the idea of a secular India and what happened to it. I narrate the essay here.
