3rd Degree the Podcast #336
This week, on a marathon edition of 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - dig deep on the FC Dallas elimination game from the 2025 playoffs. There was so much good on display with just a bit of bad at the very end. Still, the display was inspiring in many ways, and yet still sad for a great many fans. So the next season is upon us, and that means it's time to kick it all off with our annual "Dump or Keep" game, as your hosts run through the roster and tell you who should stay and who should go.  Plus, Dallas Trinity is back at it against DC Power to kick off a 6-of-7-at-home stretch.  And Buzz talked to Texoma FC owner Ben Watson about what's next for the team.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - try to get cathartic about the most comprehensive defeat in franchise history. (Yes, seriously.) What went wrong? Was anything good?  Just how in the world does FCD compete with this Vancouver team? Can a few tweaks get them back into this thing?Dallas Trinity is back in action this weekend, sitting in 4th place on PPG. The season ended for Texoma FC and North Texas SC in very negative ways. And is anything happening with the two forthcoming USL sides?  Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast... playoffs!!! Your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - talk all things FC Dallas and the playoffs. How did the Burn save the season? How did they win in Vancouver, missing all those pieces? Can they keep winning? Where there's a Quill, there's a will! Sarver, Collodi, Julio, Cappis!  Now it's playoff time and the Burn go again against... *checks notes* Vancouver... But that's not all, Dallas Trinity smashed all kinds of records with 22 thousand at the Cotton Bowl against Club America. There's a lot of season left for the Golden Girls. North Texas SC was in a playoff battle, which wasn't looking good as the pod was recorded. Texoma FC fought hard in their penultimate game of 2025. And Garland is building the same thing without Atletico Dallas that they were going to build with Atletico Dallas. Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton and Buzz Carrick (no Dan Crooke) - break down the meltdown in LA - the red card, the brain farts, the mistakes - how it all could have been prevented, quality Quill moves, and what's left in playoff scenarios. And who the heck will play in the now massive season final in Vancouver this weekend?  FCD sure has put itself in a bind.Dallas Trinity's road woes continue, but the State Fair Classic is up next, and that should be tons of fun.  North Texas SC has its playoff opener this Sunday at "The Town." Could Sam Sarver play back-to-back games on Saturday/Sunday? Texoma FC won their final home game but were eliminated from the playoffs. And Buzz floats a name for an ambitious, statement-setting coach hire for Atletico Dallas. No, this isn't a news dump; it's just an on-fire coach idea. Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - go long on the FC Dallas game and how they got to this point. How did the Burn go from being one of the worst in MLS to one of the best... or at least hottest? Lucho Acosta, Christian Cappis, Oz Urhoghide, and even a tactical change by Coach Eric Quill. Petar Musa might break the single-season scoring record. FCD goes against the Galaxy again this weekend in a must-win. Matt Hedges retired. Did Paxton Pomykal get a curtain call? Oh, and Buzz answers a couple of fan questions from 3rd Degree's Discord.  Plus, Dallas Trinity enjoyed, one assumes, a weekend off. They have Spokane next and then the big State Fair Classico. Sam Sarver had a hat trick for North Texas SC to get them into the playoffs. Texoma FC drew and fell to 12th. Dallas Atletico hosted Carli Lloyd, not that anyone knew about it.Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - dig into the entertaining 2-2 draw at Portland, a quality point on the road. Jackson & Musa led the way, and there was plenty of good and a little not as great, but an overall good game. A Galaxy double is next before the Burn finish at Vancouver. So, will FC Dallas make the playoffs or not? Can they get it done?  Dallas Trinity got wrecked, Buzz has a few thoughts. Maybe a week off will do the Golden Girls some good. North Texas SC continues to play a bunch of kids (that's good) and remains in the last playoff spot (that's also good).  Atletico Dallas had their training center deal with the Garland collapse. Your trio dissects. Texoma FC lost, made a big email oopsie, and Buzz has an interesting sourced tidbit on what may be in the Red Birds' future. And the first confirmed team for the Dallas Cup 2026 dropped. This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, FC Dallas is on fire!  Your hosts - Peter Welpton and Buzz Carrick (Dan Crooke is on an excused absence and not injured) - enjoy the current form of the Burn.  Musa, Farrington, Urhoghide, Ramiro, Moore, Kamungo, Cappis... so many dudes are showing up, and Los Toros are 3-0-3 over the last 6. Don't look now, but your local MLS side is in the final play-in spot with 4 games to go. Dallas Trinity got a tie on the road and remains atop the league despite the road stretch. The Golden Girls (amazing nickname) are struggling to score but are outplaying virtually everyone.  North Texas SC got a massive road win with a bunch of kids and now sit 6th with 3 games left. Unfortunately, the wheels are coming off in Texoma as the Red Birds fall to the worst team in USL-1.  It's not looking good up in Sherman.  Finally, the matchups are out for the 2nd round of regional '26 Cup qualifying. Music by Pappy Check.

Petar Musa, Logan Farrington, Bernie Kaumungo, Christian Cappis, and the whole collective defense played well. Heck, seemed like not a single player performed poorly. Now it's a massive game against the Rapids. Will Coach Quill change anything? What about the keeper?Dallas Trinity fell on the road but remains in 1st place. North Texas SC dropped some points and sits outside the playoffs. Atletico Dallas added to their ownership. And a couple of local teams advanced in the 2026 US Open Cup.And lastly, Buzz talked to Texoma FC owner Ben Watson for the latest on the strange happenings up north of town.  Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - celebrate two record-setting individuals. Dallas Trinity's Rhea Moore (the youngest pro women's goal scorer in US history) and Jacob Jackson (FC Dallas record 12 saves in a game). Two fantastic performances. First, FC Dallas got a tie at StLou after Collodi's red card, thanks to the standout replacement keeper Jackson and a high press goal from Petar Musa. The Burn got Austin FC next, and ties aren't going to get that last playoff spot. Then, undefeated Dallas Trinity tops the USL Super League at 3-0-0 when no one else has more than 1 win. DTFC picked up right where they left off last year with their rebuilt defense.  North Texas SC got a shootout win and remains in 8th.Texoma got blown out 5-0, but all anyone wants to know is, are they moving?Atletico Dallas has an announcement on Tuesday, stay tuned. And local 2026 US Open Cup Qualifying starts this weekend. Music by Pappy Check.

Jesus Ferreira is winning things.  Dallas Trinity has won 2 and sits atop the table, but has a 5-game road trip coming up. North Texas SC got a road win out in California and plays the exact same team this weekend. Texoma FC continued its hot and cold ways, falling to Forward Madison.Atletico Dallas has a new investor. And 6 local sides are involved in 2026 US Open Cup qualifying. Music by Pappy Check.

It's a victory pod on this week's episode of 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Buzz Carrick, and Dan Crooke (Dan's back!!) - dig into the post-Acosta era and a FC Dallas home win over Portland. Kamungo at wingback? The best Ramiro game of the year?  Delgado disaster? Solid center back play! The Collodi Kid to the rescue! FCD also sold Marco Farfan and Lucho Acosta, two good bits of business, but very different. Could this whole Acosta mess have been avoided?  It's also two weeks from Dallas Trinity's opening day at the Cotton Bowl.  North Texas SC won a shootout at Austin. Why do they play before FC Dallas? And Texoma dropped a road game. Music by Pappy Check.

Last week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, it was looking so rosy for FCD. This week? Not so much as the Burn crashed back to earth with a series of mental switch-offs against NYCFC. You hosts - Peter Welpton and Buzz Carrick, Dan Crooke's computer is down - Get the not-so-fun task of digging into the errors and asking who is to blame; players, coach, or both?  10 games are left in the season, the team needs 15 points (probably), and things just aren't working. So important questions need to be asked... Does the club stick with Lucho Acosta or Eric Quill? Is it time to buy out Paxton Pomykal? Is it time to play the kids for 2026? On the upside, North Texas SC won a trophy. Yes, another D3 title, so FCD is hyped. Texoma FC lost in the USL Cup. Atletico Dallas isn't making much news. But the Dallas Trinity season is just around the corner. The FCD U23s fell in the semi-final.  Music by Pappy Check.

What a fun time your 3rd Degree the Podcast hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - had this week in FCD land. A tie and a win amid some of the better play we've seen in a while and the release of one of the best kits in club history... the Burn Throwback Archive kit. But before digging into the games, it's the current status of Luchio Acosta that needs explaining, as well as that of his little buddy Pedrinho. Plenty of people are balling out for FCD: Petar Musa, Josh Torquato, Kaick, heck, even Bernie Kamungo looks dialed in. And Sam Sarver almost scored 5 goals in 2 days.North Texas SC won big thanks to Sarver, Texoma FC got another tie, Dallas Trinity added another player, and the FCD U23s are into the Final Four. Rest in Peace, Rags Gardner. Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - try to dig deep to find a positive ray of sunshine for FC Dallas against LAFC. Your trio explains why Lucho Acosta was dropped, why the yellow card may be a big deal, and wonders what is next. Hopefully, Urhoghide will be back soon, but after that, is there much joy in sight?  Maybe the new window will help with one player we know of already coming in. Will there be more?  At least FCD is about to get a banger of a throwback kit. North Texas SC got wrecked at Dynamo Dos, and Texoma FC ended their unbeaten streak vs the Pines. Denton wrecked McKinney and FCD U23s won their league.  Plus, Dallas Trinity started adding some nice pieces for the next season, which is 6 weeks away.  Music by Pappy Check.

This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton and Buzz Carrick (Dan Crooke is on assignment) - welcome back guest Arman Kafai to talk all things FC Dallas.  The Loons' game was bad, but was it any worse than the other two home games they lost in the last couple of weeks? Is this team and staff starting to look defeated? And what do they do with LAFC up next?  Plus, Arman has a TED Talk about rebuilding in MLS and why it's a bad idea. North Texas SC won, and Sam Sarver got the call-up. Texoma FC is now unbeaten in 8. This may be the greatest turnaround of all time. This episode of 3rd Degree the Podcast is dedicated to Christine Gardner. Rest in peace. This week on 3rd Degree the Podcast, your hosts - Peter Welpton, Dan Crooke, and Buzz Carrick - have the biggest pile of DFW soccer news to talk about, ever.  Starting with two FC Dallas losses at home of different stripes and pain. Questions have to be asked about where this thing is headed. FCD also sold Antonio Carrera and let Show Cafumana walk. And on top of that, the MLSPA salary drop happened. Now, Los Toros face the Loons! (As does North Texas SC).  Dallas Trinity fired their coach, had their President win a league award, and then dumped 9 players. Texoma hasn't lost in two months, till they got rid of an owner and then faced a USL-C team in the USL Cup. Atletico Dallas had a sweet kit drop and got their training ground approved. And the McKinney Chupacabras are getting a training ground upgrade!Music by Pappy Check.
