~ A huge rainwater storage facility built under Shibuya station ~
日本は災害がとても多い国です。
夏には、「ゲリラ豪雨」と呼ばれる突然の大雨がよく降るので、道路が冠水することがよくあります。でも、最近はその対策のために、渋谷駅の地下に雨水を約4000トン貯める場所が作られたり、雨が増えると川の横側から地下に水が流れる「調節池」という場所が作られ、被害が最小限で済んでいるそうです。
いつも便利に快適に暮らせるのは、こういう努力のおかげなのだなと、とてもありがたく思います。
にほんは さいがいが とても おおい くにです。
なつには、「げりら ごうう」とよばれる とつぜんの おおあめが よく ふるので、
どうろが かんすいすることが よく あります。
でも、さいきんは その たいさくのために、しぶやえきの ちかに あまみずを やく よんせんとん ためる ばしょが つくられたり、あめが ふえると
かわの よこがわから ちかに みずが ながれる「ちょうせつち」という ばしょが つくられ、
ひがいが さいしょうげんで すんでいるそうです。
いつも べんりに かいてきに くらせるのは、こういう どりょくの おかげなのだなと、
とても ありがたく おもいます。
Japan is a country where natural disasters happen a lot .
In summer, because sudden heavy rains called “guerrilla gou u” happens a lot, many roads are flooded. But recently, to cope with it, a place to store about 4,000 tons of rainwater has been built under the Shibuya station, and a place called a “chosetsu chi” has been constructed where water flows underground from the side of a river when rainfall increases. Thanks to them, damage has been minimized.
I am very grateful that it is thanks to these efforts that we are always able to live conveniently and comfortably.

~ What temperature do you set your AC? ~
皆さんは、夏にエアコンを何度くらいで使いますか？
私はいつも28度に設定することが多いです。
日本の環境省が勧めている温度が28度なので、なんとなくその温度を自分の基準にしています。でも実は、子供のとき家にエアコンがなかったので、28度より涼しくすると贅沢をしているような、少し罪悪感を感じる気持ちになる、というのが本当のところです😂
みなさんは、なつに えあこんを なんどくらいで つかいますか？
わたしは いつも にじゅうはちどに せっていすることが おおいです。
にほんの かんきょうしょうが すすめている おんどが にじゅうはちどなので、
なんとなく その おんどを じぶんの きじゅんにしています。
でも じつは、こどものとき いえに えあこんがなかったので、にじゅうはちどより
すずしくすると ぜいたくをしているような、すこし ざいあくかんを かんじる
きもちになる、というのが ほんとうのところです。
What temperature do you use your air conditioner at in the summer?
I usually set it to 28 degrees.
The Japanese Ministry of the Environment recommends 28 degrees, so I somehow use that temperature as my standard. But the truth is that I didn't have an AC in my house when I was a child, so if I set it cooler than 28 degrees, I feel a little guilty, like I'm having a luxury.

~ Gong cha has become popular again in Japan ~
2019年、日本ではタピオカが大ブームになりました。
でも今、ゴンチャというタピオカのお店がまた人気になっていて、
2019年の1.7倍のお客さんが来ているそうです。
コーヒーをメニューからなくし、毎月新メニューを出す、
店内の席をあえて狭くして、コミュニケーションを盛り上げるといったアイディアが
また人気になった理由だそうです。
インスタでバズっているカスタムがあるようなので、私も今度試してみようと思います。
にせん じゅうきゅうねん、にほんでは たぴおかが だいぶーむに なりました。
でも いま、ごんちゃという たぴおかの おみせが また にんきに なっていて、
にせんじゅうきゅうねんの いってん ななばいの おきゃくさんが きているそうです。

~ Awa odori ~
日本の夏は、各地でたくさんのお祭りがあります。
青森のねぶた祭り、京都の祇園祭など、有名なお祭りがありますが、
皆さんは、行ってみたいお祭りがありますか？
私は、徳島の阿波踊りを見てみたいです。
よくYoutubeで動画を見ているのですが、動画を見るだけでも涙が出るので、
本物を見たらとても感動する自信があります😂
夏には、楽しいイベントがたくさんありますね！
にほんの なつは、かくちで たくさんの おまつりが あります。
あおもりの ねぶたまつり、きょうとの ぎおんまつりなど、ゆうめいな おまつりがありますが、
みなさんは、いってみたい おまつりがありますか？
わたしは、とくしまの あわおどりを みてみたいです。
よくYoutubeで どうがを みているのですが、どうがを みるだけでも なみだがでるので、
ほんものを みたら とても かんどうする じしんが あります。
なつには、たのしい いべんとが たくさん ありますね！
There are many festivals held throughout Japan during the summer.
There are famous festivals such as the Nebuta Festival in Aomori and the Gion Festival in Kyoto.
Are there any festivals you would like to go?
I would like to see the Awa Odori dance in Tokushima.
I often watch videos of it on YouTube, and even just watching the videos brings tears to my eyes,
so I'm sure I would be very moved if I saw it in person.

It’s held on August 12th ~ 15th in Tokushima.
Awa is the old name of Tokushima.
There are two types of dances in Awa odori,
one is powerful “Otoko odori (male dance)”
and the other one is elegant “Onna odori (female dance)”
There is a famous phrase about Awa odori, which is
“踊る阿呆に見る阿呆、同じ阿呆なら踊らにゃ損“
（おどる あほうに みる あほう、おなじ あほなら おどらにゃ そん）
/ Some fools dance and other fools watch it.
If you are a fool anyway, you should dance.
(If you don’t dance, you’re missing out.)
They keep dancing on tiptoes in geta sandals,
so it’s said that dancing awa odori is so hard.

~ What do you put on a table to save your seat at a cafe? ~
皆さんの国では、カフェなどで席をとりたいとき、どうしますか？
日本では、何でもいいから何かを置いておけば席をとっている印になるという、
暗黙のルールがあるような気がします。
私の場合は、たとえティッシュ1枚でも、何か置いてあったらその席は誰かが使っていると思って、他の席を探します。
皆さんの国ではどうですか？
みなさんの くにでは、かふぇなどで せきを とりたいとき、どうしますか？
にほんでは、なんでも いいから なにかを おいておけば せきを とっている
しるしになるという、あんもくの るーるが あるような きがします。
わたしの ばあいは、たとえ てぃっしゅ いちまいでも、なにか おいてあったら
その せきは だれかが つかっていると おもって、ほかの せきを さがします。

In Japan, I think there is an unspoken rule that if you put something on a table, anything at all, it is a sign that you’re taking that seat.

~ Nama XX are popular in Japan now ~
「生〇〇」という商品が、最近増えています。
特にスイーツで増えていると思うのですが、
生ドーナツ、生わらびもち、生メロンパンなどです。
「生」は、元々、熱を加えていない、そのままの、
という意味ですが、最近は、通常より水分量を多くして、
とろとろ・もちもちの食感を楽しめる、
という意味で使われているようです。
私も、「生」とつくだけでスイーツがとても美味しそうに
見えてしまいますが、皆さんはどう思いますか？
「なま 〇〇」という しょうひんが、さいきん ふえています。
とくに すいーつで ふえていると おもうのですが、なま どーなつ、なま わらびもち、なま めろんぱんなどです。
「なま」は、もともと、ねつを くわえていない、そのままの、という いみですが、
さいきんは、つうじょうより すいぶんりょうを おおくして、
とろとろ・もちもちのしょっかんを たのしめる、
という いみで つかわれているようです。
わたしも、「なま」とつくだけで すいーつが
とても おいしそうに みえてしまいますが、
みなさんは どうおもいますか？

~ Can you stay up all night? ~
「徹夜寿命」という言葉を、こないだニュースで見ました。
徹夜をするのがきつい、と感じる年齢のことだそうです。
この、「○○寿命」には他にもたくさんあるようで、行列に並んでまでラーメンを食べたくないと思う、行列麺寿命、
自分のことを「ぼく」と呼ぶのに抵抗を感じる、ぼく寿命などがあります。
私は今年39歳なのですが、ヒット曲に興味がなくなる「ヒット曲寿命」に
見事に当てはまっていました😂
皆さんはどうですか？
「てつや じゅみょう」という ことばを、こないだ にゅーすで みました。
てつやを するのが きつい、とかんじる ねんれいのこと だそうです。
この、「○○じゅみょう」には ほかにも たくさん あるようで、
ぎょうれつに ならんでまで らーめんを たべたくないと おもう、
ぎょうれつめん じゅみょう、じぶんのことを「ぼく」と よぶのに ていこうをかんじる、
ぼく じゅみょう などが あります。
わたしは ことし さんじゅうきゅうさいなのですが、ひっときょくに きょうみが
なくなる「ひっときょく じゅみょう」に みごとに あてはまっていました。

~ AI is “devouring” electricity ~
AIが電力を「爆食い」しているというニュースを見ました。
簡単なプロンプトでも、電力をたくさん消費するそうで、
データセンターの近くでは停電が頻繁に起きているということでした。
省エネなAIが開発されても、それをみんなが使って、
結局電力がたくさん消費されてしまうようです。
AIには全く詳しくないのですが、便利になるほど、環境には負荷がかかるという問題を、
AIではまだ解決できないのかなと、ふと思いました。
AIが でんりょくを「ばくぐい」している という にゅーすを みました。
かんたんな ぷろんぷとでも、でんりょくを たくさん しょうひするそうで、
でーた せんたーの ちかくでは ていでんが ひんぱんに おきている ということでした。
しょうえねな AIが かいはつされても、それを みんなが つかって、
けっきょく でんりょくが たくさん しょうひされてしまうようです。
AIには まったく くわしくないのですが、べんりになるほど、かんきょうには ふかが かかるという もんだいを、
AIでは まだ かいけつできないのかなと、ふと おもいました。

~ Katsushika Hokusai exhibition in France ~
葛飾北斎という、江戸時代(1603~1867)の日本の画家の展示会がフランスで行われていて、
1ヶ月先までチケットが完売するほど人気だそうです。
北斎の絵は、浮世絵という、人々の生活・憧れの美人や役者・花鳥風月を描いたジャンルの絵です。
この世は辛いことばかり（憂き世/ うきよ）だから、浮かれて、
この世を楽しみたいという人々の思いから、「浮世/ うきよ」の字が使われるようになったそうです。
皆さんはこの波の絵を見たことがありますか？
かつしか ほくさいという、えど じだい(1603~1867)の にほんの がかの てんじかいが
ふらんすで おこなわれていて、いっかげつさきまで ちけっとが かんばいするほど にんきだそうです。
ほくさいの えは、うきよえ という、ひとびとの せいかつ・あこがれの びじんや やくしゃ・かちょうふうげつを
えがいた じゃんるの えです。
このよは つらいことばかり（うきよ）だから、うかれて、このよを たのしみたい という
ひとびとの おもいから、「うきよ」の じが つかわれるように なったそうです。
みなさんは この なみの えを みたことがありますか？
An exhibition of Katsushika Hokusai, a Japanese painter of the Edo period (1603~1867),

Hokusai's paintings are in the genre of ukiyoe, which draw people's lives, admired beautiful women and actors, and nature (flowers, birds, winds, and the moon).

~ The future I saw ~
少し前の話ですが、7月5日に日本に大災害が起きるという噂があったのを知っていますか？
ある漫画で7月5日に大災害が起きると書いてあったのが始まりだったのですが、
Youtubeや色々なメディアでたくさんの人がそのことを話したので、一気に噂が広まりました。
もちろんデマだったのですが、災害が起きるという噂よりも、
災害に備えて何をするべきかを、もっと広める方がいいのではと思いました。
すこしまえのはなしですが、しちがつ いつかに にほんに だいさいがいが おきるという
うわさが あったのを しっていますか？
ある まんがで しちがつ いつかに だいさいがいが おきると かいてあったのが はじまりだったのですが、
ゆーちゅーぶや いろいろな めでぃあで たくさんの ひとが そのことを はなしたので、
いっきに うわさが ひろまりました。
もちろん でまだったのですが、さいがいが おきるという うわさよりも、
さいがいに そなえて なにを するべきかを、もっと ひろめるほうが いいのでは とおもいました。
Do you know that there was a rumor a while ago that a big disaster
would happen in Japan on July 5?
It started when a comic book said that a big disaster would happen on July 5.
A lot of people talked about it on Youtube and various media, so the rumor spread quickly.
Of course it was a false rumor, but I thought it would be better to spread the word
about what to do to prepare for a disaster rather than a rumor that a disaster was going to happen.
【About the prediction】
In the comic named “私が見た未来（わたしが みた みらい）/ The future I saw” by Ryo Tatsuki
which was first published in 1999, she predicted that “A big disaster will happen in March 2011”.
And it really happened.
In 2021, she published a new version of “The future I saw”.
In that comic, she said “I dreamt that the big disaster would happen on July 5, 2025”.
Because her prediction came true in 2011, many people believed her 2021 prediction too.

~ Japanese school summer vacation ~
今息子が小学校3年生なのですが、
22日から夏休みが始まりました。
日本では、7月の20日前後から1か月くらいが夏休みの学校が多いです。
私が子供の頃は大量の宿題があったのですが、
最近は1週間もあれば終わりそうなくらいの量の学校が多く、宿題が少なすぎるという不満がある親も多いようです。
皆さんの夏休みはどんな感じでしたか？
いま むすこが しょうがっこう さんねんせいなのですが、にじゅうににちから なつやすみがはじまりました。
にほんでは、しちがつの はつかぜんごから いっかげつくらいが なつやすみの がっこうが おおいです。
わたしが こどものころは たいりょうの しゅくだいが あったのですが、
さいきんは いっしゅうかんも あれば おわりそうなくらいの りょうの がっこうが おおく、しゅくだいが すくなすぎるという ふまんが ある おやも おおいようです。

~ The difference of the way to treat pets between in Europe and in Japan ~
Youtubeで、ヨーロッパで日本犬が人気という動画を見ていたのですが、
その中で、ある航空会社では、規定の重さより軽い犬であれば飛行機に一緒に乗れるということを知りました。
空港の中でもワンちゃんと普通に一緒に歩いていて、びっくりしました。
日本はペット後進国と言われることもあるようなのですが、
この動画を見て、他の国を見習うべきところがたくさんあるなと感じました。
Youtubeで、よーろっぱで にほんけんが にんき という どうがを みていたのですが、
そのなかで、ある こうくうがいしゃでは、きていの おもさより かるい いぬであれば
ひこうきに いっしょに のれる ということを しりました。
くうこうの なかでも わんちゃんと ふつうに いっしょに あるいていて、びっくりしました。
にほんは ぺっと こうしんこく といわれることも あるようなのですが、
この どうがを みて、ほかの くにを みならうべき ところが たくさん あるな とかんじました。

~ The 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century ~
NYタイムズの、21世紀の映画ベスト100が発表されました。
1位の映画を含めて、見たことがない映画がたくさんありました。
数えてみると、見たことがある映画は9つしかありませんでした。
皆さんのお気に入りの映画はランクインしていましたか？
にゅーよーく たいむずの、にじゅういっせいきの えいが べすと ひゃくが はっぴょうされました。
いちいの えいがを ふくめて みたことがない えいがが たくさん ありました。
かぞえてみると、みたことが ある えいがは ここのつしか ありませんでした。

~ Airport theory ~
エアポート理論、という言葉を最近知りました。
飛行機に乗る15分前に空港に着けば、無駄な待ち時間なく、
スムーズに飛行機に乗れるというものだそうです。
私は前に、旅行の日に寝坊して、タクシーをぶっ飛ばして、
空港のグランドスタッフさんと一緒にスーツケースを持って、
空港を爆走した苦い経験があります😂
なので、このエアポート理論は聞くだけでヒヤヒヤしますが、皆さんはどう思いますか？
えあぽーと りろん、という ことばを さいきん しりました。
ひこうきに のる じゅうごふんまえに くうこうに つけば、むだな まちじかんなく、
すむーずに ひこうきに のれる というもの だそうです。
わたしは まえに、りょこうの ひに ねぼうして、たくしーを ぶっとばして、
くうこうの ぐらんどすたっふさんと いっしょに すーつけーすを もって、
くうこうを ばくそうした にがい けいけんが あります。
なので、この えあぽーと りろんは きくだけで ひやひやしますが、
みなさんは どう おもいますか？
I recently came across the term "Airport Theory”.
It says that if you arrive at the airport 15 minutes before your boarding time,
you can get on the plane smoothly without any unnecessary waiting time.
I had a bitter experience before when I overslept on a traveling day,
asked a taxi driver to drive as fast as he could, and ran the airport so fast
with my suitcase with the airport ground staff.
So this airport theory makes me nervous just hearing about it,
but what do you think?

~ Are you interested in popular words? ~
子供の頃、なんで親は今流行っている言葉を知らないのか、
なんで人気の芸能人の名前を知らないのか、全く理解できませんでした。
ダサいなぁとすら思っていたのですが、今ではすっかりその気持ちがわかります。
テレビに出ている若い芸能人は区別がつかないし、名前が覚えられないし、
流行の言葉にはあまり興味がなくなってしまいました😂
私の両親もこんな感じなのかなあと、今では理解できます。
こどものころ、なんで おやは いま はやっている ことばを しらないのか、
なんで にんきの げいのうじんの なまえを しらないのか、まったく りかいできませんでした。
ださいなぁとすら おもっていたのですが、いまでは すっかり その きもちが わかります。
てれびに でている わかい げいのうじんは くべつが つかないし、
なまえが おぼえられないし、りゅうこうの ことばには あまり きょうみが なくなってしまいました。
わたしの りょうしんも こんな かんじなのかなあと、いまでは りかいできます。
When I was a kid, I never understood why my parents didn't know the words
that were currently popular or why they didn't know the names of popular celebrities.
I even thought “That’s not cool”.
But now, I totally understand the feeling. I can't distinguish young celebrities on TV,
I can't remember their names, and I’m not as interested in popular words as I was.
I can understand now that my parents are like this too.

~ Does the internet reduce the impact of physical distance? ~
友達が、旦那さんの転勤でもうすぐ中国に行ってしまいます。
5年くらい前から親子共々仲良くしてもらっているので、行ってしまうのはもちろんとても悲しいのですが、同時に、またすぐ会えるような気もしています。
おそらく、メールや電話をすればすぐ繋がれるからだと思います。
月並みな言葉ですが、友達とリアルで会える時間を、もっと味わわないといけないとも思いました。
ともだちが、だんなさんの てんきんで もうすぐ ちゅうごくに いってしまいます。
ごねんくらいまえから おやこともども なかよくしてもらっているので、いってしまうのは もちろん とても かなしいのですが、どうじに、また すぐ あえるような きも しています。
おそらく、めーるや でんわを すれば すぐ つながれるからだと おもいます。
つきなみな ことばですが、ともだちと りあるで あえる じかんを、もっと あじわわないといけないとも おもいました。
One of my friends is going to China soon due to her husband's transfer.
Both my son and I have been good friends with her and her son for about 5 years now, so of course I am very sad that she is going, but at the same time I feel like I can see her again soon.
Probably because we can connect whenever I text or call her.
It might sound a bit cliché, but I realized that I enjoy every single moments with my friends in person more.

~ Some university papers used secret prompt ~
最近、びっくりするニュースを聞きました。
アメリカ、韓国、日本などの14個の大学で、教授から良い評価をもらうために、
論文の中にAIへの秘密の指示文を入れた生徒がいたそうです。
ただの不正ではなく、教授たちが論文をAIに読ませることに対抗するためという理由もあったようです。
個人的に、（もちろんよくないですが、）秘密の指示を論文に入れるアイディアは
とても賢いなと思ったのですが、皆さんはこのニュースをどう思いますか？
さいきん、びっくりする にゅーすを ききました。
あめりか、かんこく、にほんなどの じゅうよんこの だいがくで、
きょうじゅから いい ひょうかを もらうために、
ろんぶんのなかに AIへの ひみつの しじぶんを いれた せいとが いたそうです。

あいでぃあは とても かしこいなと おもったのですが、

I recently heard some surprising news.
At 14 different universities in the US, South Korea, Japan, and other countries,
some students put secret prompt to AI in their papers in order to get good grades from their professors.
It seems that the reason was not just cheating, but also to protest the professors who have AI read students’ papers.
Personally, I thought the idea of putting secret prompt in the paper (that’s not good, of course)
was very clever, but what do you think of this news?

~ Yakuza vs Osaka police ~
皆さん、この動画を見たことがありますか？
大阪の警察が、ヤクザの事務所に捜査をしに行く動画なのですが、
大阪の警察が怖すぎて、どちらがヤクザかわからないことで、
昔からとても人気のある動画です。
け: 「はよ開けんかいコラァ！（早くドアを開けなさい！）」
や: 「どなたですか？」
け: 「大阪（大阪警察）や！」
というのが定番の会話で、もはや動画を見ている人のために、演技をしているようにすら思えます😂
コメント欄に誰かが、「誰か警察呼んで」と書くのが定番の流れなので、
興味のある方はぜひ見てください。
みなさん、この どうがを みたことがありますか？

~ Duolingo Japan is funny! ~
Duolingoというアプリを知っていますか？
色々な言語を学べるアプリで、私も毎日5分くらいなのですがDuolingoで勉強しています。
この前たまたまDuolingo Japanのインスタを見つけたのですが、「逃げてもムダだからね」とプロフィールに書いてある通り、かなり癖が強いアカウントでとても面白いです。
他の国のアカウントもあるようなのですが、残念ながら私には何と書いてあるかわからないので、ご自身の国のDuolingoアカウントがどんな感じか、ぜひチェックしてみてください。
Duolingoという あぷりを しっていますか？
いろいろな げんごを まなべる あぷりで、わたしも まいにち ごふんくらいなのですが Duolingoで べんきょうしています。
このまえ たまたま Duolingo Japanの いんすたを みつけたのですが、「にげても むだだからね」と ぷろふぃーるに かいてあるとおり、
かなり くせが つよい あかうんとで とても おもしろいです。
ほかの くにの あかうんとも あるようなのですが、ざんねんながら わたしには なんと かいてあるか わからないので、ごじしんの くにのDuolingoあかうんとが どんな かんじか、ぜひ ちぇっくしてみてください。
Have you heard of an app called Duolingo?
It is an app where you can learn various languages, and I also study with Duolingo, though only for about 5 minutes every day.
The other day I happened to find Duolingo Japan's Instagram account, and as their profile says, “No matter how much you run away, it’s waste of time.” it is a very funny and unique account.
There seem to be accounts for other countries, but unfortunately I don't know what they say, so please check out your country version of Duolingo accounts to see what they are like.

皆さんは、食べ物にあたったことがありますか？
私は大学生のとき、初めて牡蠣にあたったのですが、
ものすごく辛かったのを今でも覚えています。
生牡蠣は飲みたいくらい大好きなのですが、
それ以来、あまり食べないようにしています。
