underlie: to be a hidden cause of or stong influence on sth.

obligation: sth that you must do
entity: sth that exists apart from other things, having its own independent existence.
qualitative: relating to what sb. or sth is like
characteristic: a typical or noticeable quality of sb or sth
verifiability: the fact of being able to be proved to be true or correct.
