美國短篇小說大師歐亨利 O Henry，被喻為美國的契訶夫。他的作品多以庶民生活為題材，且不失幽默，令不少人將他與美國的幽默大師馬克吐溫 Mark Twain 相提並論。
第一個讓他聲名大噪的短篇作品是《愛的禮物》或叫做《麥琪的禮物》，他的寫作手法獨特，尤其是結尾被稱為「歐亨利式的結局」，讓讀者意想不到。
另一部為較為人熟知的短篇《最後的一片葉子》，裏面不乏窮苦大眾生活的寫照，令作品充滿真實感。
