香港海岸生長的海草，隨著香港城市發展，近幾十年來，數量正在下降。香港大學的Juan Diego Gaitan-Espitia 教授及其研究團隊，近年定期採樣及紀錄在香港不同區域的海草。這是由於海草作為其他海洋生物的棲息地，在生物多樣性之中，擔當著重要角色。研究團隊希望通過基因研究等方法，最終能夠以人工培植海草及移植海草到香港其他的海岸，令香港海岸的海草重新茂盛起來。
