Islam is based on optimism. Allah Most High made us so that He could have mercy on us and forgive us, and to despair of Allah’s mercy is a major sin. Shaykh Hamza Karamali explains that our slavehood to Allah Most High is the joyful slavehood of someone is utter need who knows that His Almighty Lord is always there to help him through life’s difficulties, and who created Him to forgive him, have mercy on him, and enter him into Paradise.

Shaykh Hamza Karamali tells the story of the “Great Calumny” in which the wife of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) was falsely accused of adultery and then exonerated by Allah Most High Himself in the Qur’an. When her father then swore an oath to never give financial assistance again to one of the Companions who was responsible for spreading the calumny, Allah Most High urged him to forgive and asked him, “Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you?”

Throughout history, God has sent us messengers to warn us that we will be resurrected after death in order to stand before Him to be judged for our actions. The rational response to this warning is to take steps to be successful after the resurrection.
