Everyone earns a college degree or reaches some form of an educational pinnacle — then what? Most people shelve learning new things once they are out of their academic phase of life. The same people who dedicate years to nurturing passions like sports, music, or the arts, only to abandon them and just…work.
Lifelong learning goes beyond textbooks or getting another degree. It’s exploring your curiosities, even if they’re unrelated to work.
It fuels personal growth, boosts confidence, and increases happiness. It helps us adapt to the ever-changing world.
I know, learning something new can feel like adding more to our already busy plates. But the good news is, it doesn't have to be overwhelming or consuming.
The world is diverse, and so should be the knowledge you possess. Whether it provides you professional success or personal happiness, there’s always something new to learn or a perspective to explore. So, never stop learning.

We’re pulling back the curtain on the hidden job market! It’s estimated that 60-80 percent of jobs are found through networking. That means if you rely only on traditional channels for your job search, you’re likely only seeing 20% of the jobs you may be eligible for. Employers receive an average of 250 applications for each publicly posted job. That’s a lot of competition! Conversely, there is significantly less competition for jobs accessed through the hidden market since fewer people know about the job opening. Less applications, less competition.
In short, you’re missing out big time if you aren’t tapping into the hidden job market!

It’s common to tie your identity to your career. You chose your job for a reason—you went to college, you interned, maybe even went to grad school. You did what you needed to do to get the skills and experience needed to land that job. Being proud of your job and enjoying your work isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s something a lot of us aspire to since we spend so much of our time working.
But it’s problematic when you start to view your self-worth in relation to your job, especially when things don’t go as planned, like an unexpected layoff, or losing interest in what you do for work. You feel like a nobody, and like you have no proof of all your hard work. Your happiness and self-esteem may take a hit, impacting your personal life, relationships, and overall well-being.

“If I just got an interview, I know I could get the job.”
I hear a variation of this statement in a majority of my career coaching calls. You know you’re a fit for the job, and you know you’d nail the interview and get an offer, but you can’t seem to get an interview!
If you fit into the “I’ve applied to what feels like a thousand jobs and haven’t gotten a single interview,” category, this episode is for you. It’s time to hit pause on your job search and reflect on your qualifications and how you’re approaching your job search in general. Something has to change, otherwise, you’ll just continue to get the same results. No results! A CareerBuilder survey found that 75% of people end up in the resume “black hole.” Meaning their resume isn’t even seen by someone at the company. Ouch!
