Decolonizing Women’s bodies, minds and hearts  -  A Conversation with Helen Henderson of Indigenous Ireland

Trigger warning - in this episode we mention abuse, suicide, as well as other issues that are present in today’s world and within our work with women. 

On this week’s episode, Ioana interviews Helen Henderson, who is from Derry and one of the two people behind Indigenous Ireland, who works with women within the communities in Derry and the surrounding areas.

During this heartfelt and very real conversation we dive into a few important topics when it comes to women’s medicine and the way women can heal in a good way:

• Navigating women’s work in the context of the North of Ireland.
• Colonialism and its effects on women’s bodies, hearts and minds
• The impact that colonialism, conflict and patriarchy are having on women’s bodies
• Touching back into our ancient practices and wisdom through accessing our body memory
• The divide and conquer policies and how they have affected women
• How do we re-indigenize our bodies, our spirits and our souls?
• Who are we as women aside from all the layers of hurt and historical/ personal trauma?

• Honouring men and finding healing in mixed spaces where all stories can be heard and held
• Mending the divide between men and women in a good and gentle way

This episode is meant for women and men alike, as we are looking to bridge the imaginary gap that has been created by colonialism.

Navigating the Calling to do the Work

This week Ioana talks about how we can navigate the Call to Serve and do the Work and the challenges that come with it in a manner that is as safe and as anchored as possible.

We explore:

• Anchoring back into our body and the difficulties that some of us can have with that
• Finding those places in nature that nurture us and strengthen our connection to the Earth and to all that is and where we can hear our soul speak
• What to keep in mind while navigating the doubts fears of the journey
• Making sense of some of our gifts
• Letting go of trying to control this journey and decolonise our minds of the need to understand everything through the filter of our minds
• Acceptance and what it brings on the road of doing the work/ living a life of service
• Finding the balance between acceptance and action

We just landed home after a 10-day sacred site tour around Ireland. After our journey, it felt right to discuss how to connect with the land gently.

How can we remember that we are nature?

How can our lives change when we remember this?

In episode three we offer some guidance to consider when seeking a new practitioner. We know that a wider intelligence of Love leads us to different practices and communities as we live in the mystery. However, often our trauma and pain points can sometimes leave us more vulnerable to unethical practitioners who can cause further harm.

We speak into what we see and sense are good ways to do the work. We discuss certificates and training, lineage and accountability, and introverted and extroverted practitioners.

We speak more about the Art of Service

and we celebrate the beauty of a well-placed "I don't know."

Welcome to the Mystery

Welcome to our new online gathering space!

Our intention for these conversations is to bring some light and common sense to the spiritual community during these challenging times. We are bringing our hearts together to speak about things we know to be important. With a keen awareness of religious and sexual abuse Ioana & Mel want to encourage transparency, openness, and good ethical standards in the unregulated world of the growing spiritual and wellness industry.

The way of spirit has always been a narrow path with many obstacles and challenges that can hinder and hurt us. With good guidance and a well-developed intuition, we believe everyone can develop the discernment needed to find a good way through the mess and mystery of life on Earth. We hope these conversations can support fellow seekers to ask the right questions as they find their way through the mystery.

Episode 1

In this first episode, we introduce ourselves and our intentions for this podcast space. We discuss the responsibility, dignity, and respect that are essential to a ceremonial way of being. We touch on the tangled mess and impact of spiritual consumerism, sexual abuse, and working with people in a gentle healing way.
