Weird Things and Wine
DB Cooper

The 1950s to the 1970s is often regarded as the golden age of air travel. Imagine a luxurious lounge filled with all sorts of displays of finery and wealth. Ladies adorned with silk gloves and strings of pearls, accompanied by gentlemen wearing expensive suits and carrying important leather briefcases. They’d be sipping champagne and discussing their excitement for the latest form of travel: the aeroplane. It was an event worth dressing up for, a veritable party in the sky. It’s no wonder such a marvel attracted those seeking their fortune, specifically those willing to do anything to get it. So enters Dan Cooper, a man who has been remembered in infamy for his attempted (and potentially successful) skyjacking. His case still has people talking over 50 years later, and is regarded as one of the most intriguing mysteries that has never been solved. Let’s talk about DB Cooper.

Aliens and Disclosure

Recently, the universe has been estimated to be 26.7 billion years old. The observable universe is 90 billion light years across. Scientists estimate 10,000 stars for every grain of sand on earth. Basically, the universe is really, really big. Like incomprehensibly big. And it only stands to reason that somewhere, something is living here with us. Whatever you want to call them - aliens, extraterrestrials, non-humans - they’re out there. Or maybe not. Maybe they’re already here.

Weird Things and Wine
Lizzie Borden

Lizzie Borden took an ax

and gave her mother forty whacks.

When she saw what she had done,

she gave her father forty-one.

Now, this nursery rhyme is not entirely accurate. For example, it was not 40 whacks, or 41, but rather 18 and 11 respectively. And while many today believe that Lizzie was guilty, she was actually proven innocent in a court of law. Was the law flawed, biased, and prone to underestimating women? Yes, of course. It was the 1800s, after all. But while there is a lot of evidence pointing to Lizzie, there is almost as much pointing to other suspects. Like the estranged uncle who just so happened to be visiting at the same time as the murders. Or the mysterious maid, so poorly treated and with nothing left to lose. Or perhaps the shadowy figure that was seen lurking around the house? Maybe it wasn’t Lizzie at all, and she was left all alone, ostracized from society, living out the rest of her days with only her inheritance to keep her company. Or maybe she did kill her parents, what do I know? Let’s talk about Lizzie Borden.

Bigfoot

All throughout history, stories of large, apelike creatures have persisted. Every culture seems to have legends of encounters, leading to mass speculation about their supposed existence. These cryptids seem to toe the line between human and animal, with many sightings detailing an intelligence that rivals or even exceeds our own. Modern science still has not found a satisfying explanation, but the plethora of evidence is undeniable. Let’s talk about Bigfoot.

National parks are home to many great adventures, from camping to hikes, offering beautiful waterfalls and stunning views. But they are also home to a disproportionate number of missing person cases. One man has dedicated his life to uncovering the underlying cause of all of these seemingly connected disappearances. But is he reaching? Is there actually anything weird about people getting lost in such wild terrain? Well, when you look a little deeper, you may start to realize that there’s something just a little off about these cases – Strange lights and visual distortions, creepy noises echoing through the trees, and what is up with all those reports of staircases in the middle of the woods? Let’s talk about it.

Episode 15: The Moon Landing and Other Moon Mysteries
1969 was a historic year for many reasons, one of the big ones being that was the year the first person ever walked on the Moon. This ground-breaking moment was broadcasted all over the world, and millions watched it live from their TV. But almost immediately after, conspiracies started popping up. Did NASA fake the entire thing? Did aliens greet the astronauts? Is the Moon actually made of cheese? Let's talk about it.

Episode 14: The Mysterious Demise of Natalie Wood
itunes pic

Natalie Wood was a Hollywood starlet at the peak of her career when her life was cut short. A lifelong phobia of water seemed almost premonition-like, as she succumbed to the treacherous waves of the ocean. In the decades following, many still speculate that this was not a coincidence. Was it her jealous lover, a man envious of her success? Or maybe an argument that ended in tragedy? Or was it simply an accident that her biggest fear ended up being her demise? Let's talk about it.

Episode 13: Bad Luck
Bad luck is a concept that is an important part of most cultures all over the world. Everyone has their own ideas of what causes bad luck, and many of these ideas are conflicting. We’ve all heard different stories and ideas of what brings luck. But can the colour of a cat or the number of a hotel room really affect your luck? And is there any real reason to carry around a good luck charm? I don’t know, but let’s talk about it.

Episode 11: Britney Spears
itunes pic
An icon of the 21st century, Britney Spears is also known as the princess of pop. As a child, she displayed unmatched determination and talent. She rocketed to stardom as a teenager, capturing hearts with her sweet demeanor and unique voice. But after years of unparalleled success, Britney has since stepped away from the spotlight. She's caught in a legal battle for her freedom, trapped in a conservatorship that many argue was never necessary in the first place. Now, fans have taken notice, diving deep into her rather bizarre Instagram posts and picketing outside of court proceedings. Thus, the #freebritney movement began. Let's talk about it.

The Mandela Effect - A term defined as a large group of people that seem to misremember events. Or are we misremembering? Theories bound for why so many of us share these so-called "false memories", theories ranging from mundane to outlandish. Is it just our inaccurate recalling of small, everyday events? Or could we be intersecting with parallel universes? Let's talk about it.

2020 has been called many things: a circus, a horror movie, and a dumpster fire to name a few. To say it's been a crazy year is an understatement. Between murder hornets, the fear of an alien invasion, and even a new Mothman sighting, there hasn't been a pause on the wheel of misfortune. Tonight, we're going to dive into some of the weirdest things that happened this year, as well as some of the more positive and less acknowledged events. Let's talk about it.

Episode 7: Krampus
itunes pic
Krampus, also known as the Christmas Demon, is essentially Santa's evil twin. Instead of a long white beard and a sleigh full of presents, this spirit has coarse dark fur and a bag filled with the souls of children. If you're nice, you may wake up to a stocking full of presents. But if you're not so nice, you may receive coal instead. And for the especially misbehaved, prepare to be whisked away to Hell, where you will be the main course at the feast of the dead. You better watch out, because Krampus is coming to town.
