This Audio Is Visual is a podcast engaging photographers and visual artists on their work. The fifth episode of the second season features Durban born photographer Andile Phewa, a Market Photo Workshop alumni whose interests are centred on fashion and nightlife. In the episode the photographer shares insights on invoicing and other photography business hacks.
“You cannot research pricing. You price in accordance with (what you have done), how long you have been in the industry,” shares Phewa.
He believes the industry can thrive even more with a cohesive community. Through collaboration and organising exhibitions, he has built a community for himself in Cape Town, where he has also found home.

The fourth episode of season 2 of This Audio is Visual features Keabetsoe Makgoane. In this episode of TAIV, @AndyMkosi sits down with Keabetsoe Makgoane to take a deeper look behind the intention of their photography. Kea who was born and bred in the South of Johannesburg speaks about how their heritage can always be found in their photography.
Kea started their photography journey in 2018, the following year they joined the Market Photo Workshop. Their current style is portrait photography, where they use their family and friends as their collaborators. With their mom as their biggest fan, who also offers honest critique, Kea speaks on how their relationship influences the work they put out. Through this, they offer us a lens to see their community through the softness of their appreciation.

In our third episode of the second season of This Audio is Visual, we have Ayanda Charlie sitting down with Sabelo Mkhabela. Sabelo is the current South African Arts and Culture Editor for OkayAfrica. In this episode, he unwinds his tumultuous journey to being a contemporary cultural writer who doubles as a photographer. However, Sabelo does not consider himself to be a photographer, the title ‘visual documentor’ sits more comfortably.
He engages guest Ayanda Charlie about his journey from UCT student to hip Hop culture connoisseur in South Africa. Sabelo speaks warmly about how hard he has worked to find his niche through writing about the world of Hip Hop politics in South Africa. He has worked for The Mail & Guardian, The Fader and LiveMagSA. He has been mentored by industry greats such as Lindokuhle Nkosi and Joonji Mdyogolo who have shaped how he sells himself and his ideas to publications.

Ayanda Charlie is a Digital Media Producer and Communications Manager. Charlie is also one half of collective duo Thesis ZA. In 2019 Thesis made the Mail and Guardian Top 200 Young South African list.

The first episode of season 2 features fine artist and printmaker, Amichai Tahor. He tells of his appointment to take over the late Andre Meintjies' studio in Braamfontein, where he identified an opportunity to create a linkage between image makers and print makers.
"There's a lot of investigation that needs to be done into the act of producing an image into print."
Amichai founded Lightfarm, a print company based in Johannesburg, with his friend and colleague, Andrius Vlachakis. Lightfarm services image makers at varying career levels.

This Audio Is Visual is a podcast engaging African photographers on their work and journey as image makers. It is both a masterclass and blueprint archive for new image makers. This episode of This Audio Is Visual features Elijah Ndoumbé, a multi disciplinary artist who works to challenge the dominant narrative around members of their communities as pathologized beings. Originally raised in France with roots in Cameroon, Elijah travelled to South Africa to continue studying for degrees in African and African-American studies and feminist gender and sexuality studies.
