The Weirdos We Know
Mary Shelley: The Real Life Nightmare of the Mother of Horror
HALLOWEEN! IS COMING!

So who better to talk about than “The mother of modern horror”…Mary Shelley? She is most famous for her timeless tale: Frankenstein.

Mary’s life story is WILD. It’s filled with love triangles, scandal, graveyards, silver spoons, political agendas, death, more death, and… more death. In fact, Frankenstein wasn’t some climactic peak in Mary’s life. She wrote it when she was 18 - which is barely the beginning of the up and down, twisty and turny, upside down and right side back up journey.

And it all starts in London, England in 1797…

The Weirdos We Know
Dr. Seuss: An Illicit Affair
You gotta love someone like Dr Seuss who can write books that surprise, enchant, educate and entertain children all at once. He created entire worlds that are now deeply intertwined with Western Culture, especially around Christmas time with the Grinch and all of his lore. He’s responsible for The Cat and the Hat, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, and a ton of other stories that have been adapted into movies, tv shows, songs, you name it.

Certainly, someone who is presented as so wholesome to us as children… must actually be wholesome?...Right?  Listen now

The Weirdos We Know
Mozart: A dirty little secret
Mozart is a name that everybody knows. If you ask “who is Mozart”, pretty much everyone would say “a famous composer”. And it’s true.

When Mozart was 21 years old, he went on a vacation to visit family in Germany. He was visiting his Uncle Franz, Aunt Maria, and his cousin Maria Anna, who was 19 years old. He was there for a couple of weeks and it’s pretty widely believed and accepted that the two had an intimate relationship while he was there.

Here’s an excerpt from just one of the dirty little letters he writes to her… listen now

The Weirdos We Know
The Taboo Obsession Of The Creator Of The Little Mermaid: Hans Christian Andersen
Hans Christian Andersen - if you don’t know the guy, you… actually probably do.

He was an writer in the 1800’s and he is famous for his fairytales - some of those being repurposed by the likes of Disney. The Little Mermaid… The Ugly Duckling… Princess & the Pea, The Emperor’s New Clothes.

Aside from dozens upon dozens, to well over 100 stories he wrote through his lifetime, Hans kept a diary that, while less imaginative than the likes of Thumbelina or Tom Thumb, certainly implies what Hans’s thumb was up to and it was well-documented… listen now.
