In 1990, on the verge of the beginning of the "Grunge" era, Firehouse and Trixter, two late bloomers to the hair metal scene, release their debut records. One artist had a seasoned producer, the other had a seasoned musician, but a not so seasoned producer, produce their album. One made 4 albumin a major label, sold millions of records, and had 2 top 10 hits. The other sold less than a million albums, didn't see major success at radio, but still managed to have a modest career, and tour the world. Extreme and Mr. Big both hit the national rock scene in the late 80's. Their debut albums released only months apart. They both had virtuoso guitar players. Metallica's self titled, fifth studio album, universally known as, "The Black Album," and Skid Row's sophomore album, "Slave To The Grind." With Metallica, they found themselves with a new producer, Bob Rock, and their sound was truly transformed from thrash into a more refined, hard rock sound, with a more commercial appeal. Skid Row, on the other hand, took their sound up a notch to a harder feel, with songs like Monkey Business, Mudkicker, and more. Grunge music took over the world in the early 90s. No band or album was bigger than 1991's Nirvana: Nevermind. on the exact same day this album was released, Soundgarden released Badmotorfinger. This was the band's third album, and the one that really put them on the map. In this episode, we put these albums against each other as well as, dive deep into the grunge culture, and the sad end to a genre. Every major grunge band's lead singer either died by suicide or drug overdose, with the exception of Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.

In the mid-70's, two artists who were struggling to sell records, released double live albums. It was a giant risk. KISS had already released 3 albums, none of which saw any commercial success. Peter Frampton had released 4 albums with nearly zero commercial success. What these two artists had in common was a fantastic live show. KISS Alive! and Frampton Comes Alive! captured what they couldn't capture on a studio album. These projects, became each artist's best selling albums of their careers, selling multiple millions of copies world wide.
