The youngest patriot of 12 years of age Baji Rout fondly called as Bajia sacrificed his life for the cause of his motherland. Sahid Baji Rout was born in October 5th 1926 at Nilakanthapur village in Dhenkanal District in a poor Khandayat family. Our Indian history is filled with such stories that really need to come out. We MUST know how our freedom fighters have fought for India and that includes a 12 year old kid who sacrificed his life to defend his motherland. This is a story of true patriotism, something that all Indians should remember and also pass on.
Jallianwala Bagh is a historic garden and ‘memorial of national importance’ in Amritsar, India, preserved in the memory of those wounded and killed in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that occurred on the site on the festival of Baisakhi, 13 April 1919. It houses a museum, gallery and a number of memorial structures. This story is a part of our history and marks a dark day because of the brutality that this incident held. While we tend to take our independence for granted, this story will be a reminder as to how many people literally sacrificed their lives for the independence that we are enjoying today. One of those revolutionary freedom fighters was Sardar Udham Singh. Udham Singh (26 December 1899 – 31 July 1940) was an Indian revolutionary belonging to Ghadar Party and HSRA, best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of the Punjab in India, on 13 March 1940. The assassination was done in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919, for which O'Dwyer was responsible. Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940. While in custody, he used the name Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, which represents the three major religions of India and his anti-colonial sentiment. This podcast talks about his life and his fight as a freedom fighter. Hope you like it.
