“Halloween is among us and there's no better way to get in the spirit than to curl up and watch a horror movie. Horror goes pretty hand-in-hand with metal, especially because a lot of musicians incorporate horror imagery and references into their sound and aesthetic. Slipknot, Rob Zombie and Ice Nine Kills are just a few examples of artists who are often associated with the horror genre — Corey Taylor and Zombie have literally worked on films themselves and INK base their music on different horror films.” (Loudwire)

The legendary Canadian prog-rock act’s founding members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson will be joined by German drummer Anika Nilles, who first caught attention on YouTube in the early 2010s and has since toured with Jeff Beck and released albums as a solo act with her backing band Nevell. The tour, dubbed “Fifty Something,” will hit seven markets in North America, including multiple dates in select cities. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band’s outing kicks off with four shows in Los Angeles on June 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th and wraps up September 17th and 19th in Cleveland, hitting Mexico City; Fort Worth, Texas; Chicago; New York City; and RUSH’s hometown of Toronto along the way. ALBUM VS ALBUM: Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate Machine VS The Fragile https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx1Ew_bcMzr4I1xuLhbSmt6z0EFHPwwF_R
“Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino thinks that concerts aren't nearly as expensive as they should be. Musicians and fans aren't in a good spot right now. The former suffer from high touring expenses and unreasonable label demands that often leave them penniless or in the red, while the latter have to shell out a hefty sum to attend the live shows of their favorite bands. Michael Rapino, Live Nation's CEO, thinks otherwise. He's certain that concerts should be more expensive than they currently are. Speaking at CNBC and Boardroom's Game Plan conference, Rapino stated that people have no problem paying large amounts of money for sports. Still, somehow concerts are a problem (transcribed by Ultimate Guitar): "I think music has been underappreciated. You know, I always joke, sports - it's like a badge of honor to spend seventy grand for a Knicks courtside. They'd beat me up if we charged eight hundred for Beyoncé, right?" Rapino continued: It's a real…it's very under… We have a lot of runway left, right? So when you read about the ticket prices going up, it's still – average concert price is $72. Try going to a Laker game for that. And there's eighty of them or whatever the hell. So, the concert is underpriced - has been for a long time." (Ultimate Guitar)

ALBUM VS ALBUM: Sleep Token’s Sundowning VS This Place Will Become Your Tomb https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxhdsAt3HKGT-7-_0UdNn1J7ARXna-Kxdj
“How big are Sleep Token these days? Well, there was no doubt who the most anticipated band was at Louder Than Life thanks to the Louder Than Life app. According to Blunt Magazine, over 21,000 people had added the band's Friday (Sept. 19) performance to their weekend Louder Than Life schedule ahead of the music weekend. By comparison, only 11,000 has scheduled themselves to see Slayer, 17,000 were up for Deftones and 17,000-plus were reminding themselves to check out Bring Me the Horizon. The band's set was pretty standard to what they have been playing at past shows. However, one interesting moment came during their final song of their 12-song performance. The Louder Than Life set reportedly was the first time lead singer Vessel had played guitar on "Thread the Needle."(Loudwire)

ALBUM VS ALBUM: Spiritbox's Eternal Blue VS Motionless In White's Scoring The End Of The World = https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxPnzdaC5UGkDufkU39g3YfsaIX4ZfLPaY
“Foo Fighters have announced an intimate, last-minute show to take place on Saturday in San Luis Obispo, California, at the 900-capacity Fremont Theater. Tickets were only available to purchase in person at the box office beginning at 7 a.m. PST on Saturday. Fans snaked around the venue on Friday night, which means if you're reading this, it's almost definitely too late to secure a ticket if you haven't already done so. Foo Fighters also included a minute-long snippet of music in their announcement post. The heavy, vocal-less track is stacked with furious guitars and aggressive, punkish drums but currently yields no results on Shazam. It's unclear whether it's a new, as-yet-unreleased Foo Fighters song or perhaps an old vault track that's never seen the light of day." (Loudwire)

How many songs are you sitting on? “I don’t know about thousands, but I’ve got a few. If I had a nine-to-five job, I would probably still come back home and write music for myself. But even though we’re not making records with System after all these years, I still do write because it’s an itch and I just got to itch it. It’s like a child plays with his toys. “These seven albums are an excellent example of the rapid transformation of rock ‘n’ roll from the glammed-out excesses of hair metal to the stripped-down, antiestablishment aesthetics of the diverse set of bands given the convenient umbrella term “grunge.” Even the entries from Metallica, the Chilis, and GNR, though definitely not grunge, felt unique and, most importantly, authentic.” (Sweetwater)

“In recent years, as Lollapalaooza tries to diversify its lineup, organizers will throw in that wild card, odd sock band that has some scratching their heads and others totally jazzed at the surprise. In 2025, that distinction wholly went to Korn. Since forming in Bakersfield, California in 1993, the nu metal founding fathers have kept a steady following (12 million on Facebook alone) but have largely been a festival fringe act, mostly relegated to prominent metal gatherings and European and UK events like Download and Hellfest, or even their own infamous Family Values Tour. In those environments, Korn draws tens of thousands to see their pulsating mix of screeching guitars, loaded basslines, detonating drums and frontman Jonathan Davis’ aggressive barking that have become a consistent draw. But at Lollapalooza, not so much. The last time Korn played the festival, it was 1997 when the event was still touring the country. To put that into perspective, Olivia Rodrigo wasn’t even born yet, and that detail became a proverbial line in the sand that divided the audience on Friday night for their headliner choices.” (Chicago Sun Times – Selena Fragassi)

“When it comes to putting shows together, there are few people more important than the roadies and techs that make sure shit runs smoothly. Without them, you’d have bands doing all the work and while that’s fine for smaller acts or kids getting their feet under them, it’s impossible for major acts touring all over the world. So you’d think an act like Slaughter To Prevail would hire a tour manager that would make sure the people making the shows run would be properly taken care of. Yet according to allegations from the band’s (now former) drum tech Thomas Finch, that’s allegedly not been the case. In a post on his personal Facebook account over the weekend, he laid out a working condition that at face value seems exploitative, abusive, and likely illegal. And while he claims the band themselves are “all WONDERFUL, fun, loving humans,” his main beef lands squarely at their management. Finch’s statement alleges that all of the issues happened while the band was on its run with Marilyn Manson and deals with Slaughter To Prevail’s “new band manager and current [tour manager’s]” alleged “disorganization, mismanagement, financial instability, and blatant disrespect toward crew members.” (Loudwire)

“The music world is in mourning after the death of metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, just weeks after he made his final performance at the Back to the Beginning concert with Black Sabbath in his hometown of Birmingham, England. It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning," his family said in a statement on Tuesday (July 22). "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."-Loudwire

“John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (3 December 1948 – 22 July 2025) was an English singer, songwriter, and media personality. He rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, during which period he adopted the nickname "Prince of Darkness". Osbourne became a founding member of Black Sabbath in 1968, providing lead vocals from their eponymous debut studio album in 1970 to Never Say Die! in 1978. The band was highly influential in the development of heavy metal music, in particular their critically acclaimed releases Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971), and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973). Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to problems with alcohol and other drugs. He then began a successful solo career with Blizzard of Ozz in 1980 and released 13 studio albums, the first seven of which received multi-platinum certifications in the US. He reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions. He rejoined in 1997 and helped record the band's final studio album, 13 (2013), before they embarked on a farewell tour that ended with a 2017 performance in their native Birmingham.” (Wiki)

SONG OF THE WEEK: The Pretty Wild “living ded” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHF6YGfGRM8
“My Chemical Romance kicked off their Long Live the Black Parade tour in Seattle last weekend in grand, theatrical fashion — though some casual observers have expressed confusion and criticized the band’s “weird demonic” stunts and “theatrical propaganda. My Chemical Romance are playing their landmark 2006 album, The Black Parade, in full on their latest tour — and much of the online discourse stems from one key moment during last Saturday’s tour kickoff show. Between “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “I Don’t Love You,” frontman Gerard Way led the audience in an “experiment” and “a practice of democracy.” The band trotted out four “candidates” with sacks over their heads and held an “election,” beckoning audience members to hold up a sign that said either “YEA” or “NAY.” Apparently, the majority of the audience voted “NAY,” as the four candidates were “shot” execution-style and removed from the B-stage on which they stood. “Thank you so very much for participating in democracy,” Way said with a wry smile before the band continued playing.” (Loudwire)

BACK TO THE BEGINNING Was Great! (Farewell Ozzy!) = https://youtu.be/qDGi6c6_9Us
“Back to the Beginning was a concert by the English rock band Black Sabbath, with a number of supporting artists. It took place on 5 July 2025 at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham, England, very near where the band was formed in 1968. The event concluded with the final live performances of both the band and lead singer Ozzy Osbourne; it also marked the first time since 2005 that the original line-up of the band (Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) had performed together live. Osbourne, no longer able to walk due to advanced Parkinson's disease, sang while seated on a throne. The widely-lauded concert was streamed worldwide via pay per view with a broadcast delay. It featured an all-star lineup of supporting acts, including two supergroups of musicians serving as the house band. Proceeds from the event totalled £140 million, and will be donated to charity.” (Wiki)

SONG OF THE WEEK: Shadow Of Intent “The Facets of Propaganda” = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeeWUi3HP_s
“Everybody wants a piece of humble pie apparently, as ex-Asking Alexandria frontman Dennis Stoff fires off on Instagram about the band's recent shoddy performance at Warped Tour, and the fact that they – according to Stoff – owe him $5,000,000 in unpaid royalties. Dennis Stoff was a member of Asking Alexandria from 2015 to 2016, through the duration of their The Black record. Current vocalist Danny Worsnop fronted the band from 2008 until 2015 before leaving for almost two years and rejoining in 2016. Dennis Stoff was the frontman during this time.” (Metal Injection)

SONG OF THE WEEK: Starbender “Chantilly Boy” = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDKbtEYNTGQ
“Hinds has never made a public comment about what happened or how he feels about his split with Mastodon… though a comment on a recent Mastodon Instagram post about Once More 'Round The Sun turning 10 certainly sheds some light on that. One fan commented that "Halloween" is their favorite track on the record and that they'll miss Hinds being in the band. Hinds responded: "I want [sic] miss being in a shit band with horrible humans." So I'm guessing this split wasn't exactly amicable.” (Metal Injection)
