This time we’re bringing you back to the far flung land of 2016… Long before the Office Ladies carved their faces into the Mount Rushmore of rewatch podcasts, the modest West Wing Weekly chugged along in the background, for all intents and purposes a “normal” rewatch show, were it not for one of the host’s appearance in Season 4 and beyond of West Wing. While the pandemic proliferated actor-led rewatch podcasts, the West Wing Weekly was ahead of its time, so join us as we review their early episode discussing West Wing S01E05 “The Crackpots and These Women” and see how this early iteration compares to the slew that was to follow.

This show is beyond the norm, more of an audio documentary than a chat show, to the point where we have to debate whether it counts as a rewatch podcast. It borders on a radio play, with Method Man guiding us through more-or-less overproduced segments and interviews. Are these actually new interviews or just archive footage? How does genuine insight balance against “remember this-isms”? Join us to find out!
The Wire at 20
Few shows are as beloved as the HBO Original Series The Wire. In honor of its 20th anniversary, HBO is releasing a brand new podcast hosted by musician and actor Method Man and featuring revealing interviews with the show’s most memorable voices. Over eight episodes, the podcast will look back at David Simon’s sprawling five-season drama and unpack its complex themes, cultural influence, and ongoing legacy. The Wire at 20 podcast is produced by HBO and Campside Media.

We’re halfway through season 2 of TPATPAT and after a Jim Scampoli tour de force (two Friday Night Lights podcasts, two Full House podcasts, one Saved by the Bell podcast) we’re reviewing a podcast about a more modern show, which both hosts have actually watched. HBO’s The Last of Us podcast isn’t a nostalgic rewatch show but rather part of the official marketing material released alongside The Last of Us season 1. It features the makers of both the game and the TV show, as well as the actor who voiced Joel, and in our discussion we’re honing in on the much lauded episode 3 — yes, the Nick Offerman one. And if so, does that dilute it’s potential to touch upon something that is real and honest within the hosts and the listeners?
