Revisited Episode 16 - Life Is A Decathlon Not A Sprint

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 15 - Time Do You Invest It or Do You Spend It

As we close out 2021; if you were to audit how you used your time; would you be satisfied or would you be dissatisfied? Time is precious and how you use it demonstrates the value you place on time. So with 27 days left in the year; how do you plan on using the time. Are you going to cruise to the end; because lets face it 2021 was a challenging year! Are you going to end with a bang and give it your last shot? However you choose to use the time; it's really your prerogative.

I would encourage you to invest the time and be intentional with how you use it and who you share it with. Identify what or who is important to you. Uncover the why; write the goal, outline the actions, find the accountability partner and get to it! I hope the Christmas season finds you celebrating the fact that you are still here and you still have so much to give, see and do! Take care of yourselves and remember "there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!"

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 14 - Know Your Limit

Personal Development doesn’t always have to be so serious! It can be fun! As Jamaicans we can be so expressive and so creative in giving our commonsense wisdom. We are fearless when we communicate. The proverbs I share are centered around the theme of knowing your limit. Growth happens outside of your comfort zone so a willingness to push past your limit is a sure way to evolve! The proverbs below share this sentiment.

Monkey mus know weh him go put him tail before him order trousiz. Be clear about how you’re going to carry out the task; before you initiate the process. Before taking on projects consider the implications of the yes. There is value in pausing and assessing whether or not you should yes to the opportunity. When we say yes to things; do we have a limitation or insecurity that could hinder us. It is indeed good to say yes and push the boundaries. Keep in mind; when we say yes to something; we are saying no to something else.

If cow did know how him throat hole tan; or how him batty part. Him wouldn’t chance pear seed. We do not always realize our limitations. We are willing to embrace opportunities; that we tend to forget our limitations. It is good to take on something outside of you comfort zone. When we know our limitations; we can make easier choices. The decision doesn’t become can I or do I do it. It becomes should I do it or not. We can decide whether or not to take on the challenges because we know what we’re capable. Knowing your limitations makes the decision making process easier. Recognize that you have limits and there is nothing wrong; embracing your limitations and pushing past them if you think there is value in doing so.

Until next time remember "There are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!"

Revisited Episode 13 - Options

Every day above ground is a good day! If you are blessed to see another day and complete it; give all the gratitude and appreciation you can. You possess the most powerful thing on this entire "space rock" also known as earth - your mind. You can shape and determine the life you will live by your thoughts and what you focus on. You are really a thought away from happiness or sorrow.

If you create thought and power it with feeling the results will truly leave you amazed. I encourage you to purchase and read this book The Feeling Is the Secret by Neville Goddard. This powerful little book helps you unlock this power. It is my hope that as you get ready to face whatever life throws at you; remember you are more than the world wants you to think. You truly are a thought away from happiness or sorrow.

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 12 - Envy the Lack Mindset

Envy is a symptom of the lack mindset and scarcity mentality. This mindset limits thinking, shields skills and talents and distorts perspectives. The good news is we don''t have to want the glory and not know the story! We can write our own story and bask in that glory. To want success you have to be successful; you have to become that which you desire. You have to start with who you are now and what you have. Examine your habits and choice; are you set on the path towards success or it is destruction. Who do you associate with and is your environment nurturing. Listen to this episode to learn why being envious is a waste of energy.

A Twitter personality (@iamannapepe) shared a powerful reminder I felt the need to share in this week's episode. Don't go into conversations which cause you to speak in misalignment". What a way to draw our attention to the power of our words and the need for self-awareness and intentional living. How deliberate and intentional are you with the words you speak? Listen to host - Shakira Moore - as she shares her own experiences and learn why you should be intentional with your words!

Revisited Episode 10 - Reminders - Conversation With Author Jermaine O'Connor
As we continue to live through this pandemic we continue to find ways to cope, survive or even thrive. I am reminded that this will look very different for each of us. What has been very helpful is the conversations I have with the people who are close to me; and this episode is one such conversation. In this revisited episode my friend Jermaine O'Connor and I discuss a few of his poems and how applicable they are to our lives as we navigate the pandemic.  He shared plenty; we both drop gems and we experience Ah ha moments through out this conversation!  It is my sincere hope that you walk away with a fresh perspective: on life, relationships, boundaries and what you place value on! If you feel better, are inspired to think differently and act differently, if you are motivated to have a new lease on life then Jermaine and I would have done our jobs!  The links to his two amazing books!   Reminder and Revelations: https://www.amazon.ca/Reminders-Revelations-Anthony-Jones/dp/1984174878  The Resolve: https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=the+resolve+Anthony+Jones&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss  Thank you for your continued support and drop me a note at thepersepectivematters@gmail.com I would love to hear from you!!

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 9 - We Run Tings

The  1988 Flourgon hit song "We Run Tings" is a declaration to all that "we are the masters of our fate; we control circumstances - circumstances don't control us". This song embodies a triumphant, daring, resolute spirit; it suggests that we are not a pushover and we won't take anything lying down.

To have this kind of spirit; you must be self aware and know the difference between responding and reacting. Responding carries with it a certain level of emotional and spiritual maturity, wisdom and discernment. To react is to engage without intention; you don't pause to reflect on the choices and consequences you simply allow your emotions to take over.

With the current state of the world there is a pervading sentiment of lack of control; we are at the mercy of our nations' government; we still live in lockdowns and curfews. It is quite easy to feel and believe we are not in control. I encourage you to change your perspective - you are in control of how you view the situation and how you will process and ultimately engage - whether you respond or react.

So what will you decide? Will you choose to respond or react? We will be loud and proud in your declaration "we run tings tings nuh run we" will you live from moment to moment confident in the knowledge that whatever happens you will be ok?  It is my sincere hope; that as we face a new month and the rest of 2021 each of us will be encouraged and emboldened by the lyrics of the Flourgon song and we will live our lives defiantly thinking, believing and saying "WE RUN TINGS TINGS NUH RUN WE"

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 8 - Mind Your Business

In this episode Shakira revisits the topic Mind Your Business. Within the Caribbean context; mind your business serves as a warning, advice or a reminder. Often times this phrase is said with some well intended tough love. Despite the intention mind your business is really solid advice. In this episode I talk about the importance of minding your business and decision making. Here are you some books that talk about the right conditions and strategies for making good decisions.

Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgment by Daniel Kahneman

When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel H. Pink

Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely

The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore

Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less by Barry Schwartz

Nudge by Richard H. Thaler

How to Decide: Simple Tools for Making Better Choices by Annie Duke

Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength by Roy Baumeister

This list is by no means exhaustive but it's definitely a solid start! I hope you are inspired by this episode and that you will endeavor to make good decisions especially when it comes to minding your business!

Revisited Episode 7 - Giving Thanks In The Midst Of It All

This Thanksgiving is going to look a little different for some use as we continue to navigate life in this global pandemic. The air of festivity might not quite be like it was pre-pandemic but we still have a lot to be  grateful for.

I want to share the lessons I learnt and reflected on in 2020 that still hold true this year. I encourage you to reflect on all you have gone through and acknowledge that you are still here! You are still above ground and any day above ground is a good day. So while the merriment might not be as you would like and even if it is; take a moment to bask in appreciation and gratitude.

I hope you enjoy this episode and the reminders I share with you. I pray you too will reflect on the lessons you've learnt so far. Celebrate that you have learnt them even if they were painful.  I send you an abundance of love, peace and well wishes for the day and for the rest of this year.

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 6 - The Perspective Matters

Death and loss feel like a weighted blanket or a dark cloud that looms over us; if that is what we choose to see. Life for the past 19 months has been chaotic; unpredictable, mentally and emotionally demanding. We have had to really lean into our resilience to make it to this point. Revisiting the Perspective Matters is necessary as it serves to remind us that; we choose what we focus on. How we choose to look at things impact how we feel and how we face the world.

We can focus on loss or we can focus on what we still have. We can lose our hope or cling to it. We can withdraw or we can embrace life and all it offers us. Our time on this earth is short; so live your best life! Love hard; hug tighter; kiss longer! This journey will take you on a roller coaster ride; you can hang on for dear life or you can let go and surrender!

I hope each of you has a strong support system you can turn to; and you appreciate all the good things you have in this life. If you doubt this; pause and reflect on all that you have and you may be pleasantly surprised to learn how blessed you truly are! Until next time remember; there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view.

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 3 - Be Patient With Yourself

It is rather cliche but it still holds true; we live in unprecedented times!  Now more than ever we need to be patient with ourselves first and then with others. In this episode I revisit the topic of Patience because we need this gentle reminder. Life is coming at some of us hard, fast and aggressive. As we navigate this new world and grapple with our new normal we have extend to ourselves grace and compassion!

In this revisited episode; I expand the discussion by sharing three tips with you:

Practice - practicing patience is really the only way we will get better at being patient. Look for opportunities to practice. Remember being patient means you are accessing that personal power that allows you to wait without being angry or upset.

Pay Attention To Progress Not Perfection - None of us are perfect and yet while this is true it is not an excuse to not strive for improvement. We were not handed a manual on how to live in a pandemic! So do the best you can and if you fall short be gentle and forgiving. Praise yourself when you succeed; celebrating your victories will encourage you to keep striving.

Reduce The Stress - Exhaustion and overwhelm seem to be constant companions in our lives. To really embody patience; we need to audit our lives and determine the areas and source(s) of our stress. Where possible delegate or outsource tasks so you don't take on more than you can truly handle. Know when to ask for help, ask for help and accept the help!

My beautiful souls I send you love, peace, joy and I wish for you an abundance of opportunities to practice patience. Remember there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 2 - Be Kind

Be kind to yourself! Dhani Arias reminds us that on this journey of life being kind to ourselves is so important. "There will always be times when it's hard to remember your strengths. These are the times you need to give yourself special attention. Be kind to yourself, kindness nurtures and gives hopes to your dreams. Respect yourself, listen to your needs, and treat yourself as you would a dear friend. Encourage yourself, don't take for granted the qualities that make you unique. Focus on yourself, it is with discipline and motivation that you will move towards your goals. Be giving towards yourself, in that way, your strength will increase, and you'll be realizing your goals one day at a time." To determine what kindness is and means to you; you need to have self awareness and that comes from spending the time with yourself and getting to know yourself. Before you can extend kindness to others you have to extend it to yourself. Hold space for yourself; be compassionate towards yourself; give yourself that grace especially when the times are hard. Nurture yourself and pour into yourself. What are you affirming? Do you celebrate your unique qualities. Do you show yourself appreciation? Embrace being your own hype-man! Sometimes you have to look in the mirror pop your collar and say "Yea I did that!" :or "Yea I am that woman/man" Know what you want and go after it like your life depends on it. You owe it to yourself to try. To pursue your goals; you require discipline and motivation. Your faith in yourself has to be unwavering regardless of the outcome. When you can give to yourself and give what you need; your personal strength increases and you can truly thrive. Recognize too that someone's reaction to you may not be about you but a projection of how they feel and think about themselves. It is good to examine if your behavior and action warranted such a response from that person. If you know within your heart of hearts you are not the cause; then extend them the grace they so desperately need. Whew it will be easy and sometimes you gotta curse a person out! And send them back from whence they came. But remember words have tremendous power and be mindful of what you put out into the world. The word you give could save somebody's life. When you get the chance to be kind; please be kind. It may require you to rise above a desire to lay someone flat but your higher self has faith that you know better and will do better. You are unique and special; nobody can do you like you can. Walk through this world with the confidence that you have what it takes to realize your dreams and you are willing to do what it takes. For one day; one day your goals will be a reality.

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Revisited Episode 1 - Skankin Sweet

There are some songs that are my go to for feeling good! Whenever I want to raise my spirits and improve my mood; I put on my playlist and dance without a care! Music has the power to soothe, to calm, to encourage introspection, to heal. Chronixx is an ambassador for Reggae music and the Revolution this wave of artistes herald. Skankin Sweet reminds us to let go and surrender to the power of music and dance.

Music helps us to shift our focus and see things from a different perspective. Pressures of life, problems and challenges can obscure our view and if we are not careful we are caught in a cycle of worry, fear and powerlessness. Dance because you know the truth, this life is temporary, every thing has an expiration date and this too shall pass. Raise your vibrations and remember the Universe responds to the energy you offer. Abundance, peace, prosperity and all good things are only a good thought away. You tune into abundance, so dial in and match the frequency of your desires.

When you acknowledge that gratitude is the key to unlocking the magic;  your life will begin to take on a whole new meaning. Solitude is necessary, so if you are abandoned, go within for there is where the answers live.

The Perspective Matters Podcast
Season 3 Episode 20 - All Mine

As the last episode of Season 3 I had to end on a high note! I needed to reinforce the message that your life is your own and you can do whatever you want; the opinions of others shouldn't matter to you! The Tarrus Riley song My Day is such a fun upbeat song laden with positive messages and reminders that you determine the kind of day and life you have. If you set your intentions; hold a vision and keep to the mission you can fulfill your destiny. Tarrus reminds us that the criticism of others; their negativity and low energy can't impact us when we are vibing high; and we're tapped in emotionally; mentally and spiritually.

As you set your goals and pursue your dreams; give yourself the room to be; take up all the space you need to grow and flourish. Don't let the expectations of others confine you and restrict your growth. Focus on how you feel and cultivate the winning spirit! Tell the world; look out cause here I come! You are full of so much potential but you need to exercise self belief and take action. Let your actions be intentional; surround yourself with like-minded people who will push you towards your greatest self! Use your challenges as opportunities to grow and increase your resilience and tenacity!

I wish you all the best and send you love and blessings! Until next time remember there are two sides to every coin just flip it to get the full view!

Season 3 Episode 19 - Options

It is so easy to think that life is hopeless and there's no point in going on. I'm here to remind you; once you have breath you have options. The news, the world, your colleagues, family and friends may want you to believe you don't have a choice but you do. Every day above ground is a good day! If you are blessed to see another day and complete it; give all the gratitude and appreciation you can.

You possess the most powerful thing on this entire "space rock" also known as earth - your mind. You can shape and determine the life you will live by your thoughts and what you focus on. The Perspective Matters Podcast
Season 3 Episode 18 - Likkle But We Tallawah

Likkle But We Tallawah is the expression of the Jamaican spirit. We are not defined by our size or confined to the expectations of a small island nation. We are bold, fearless, resilient, strong, passionate people. We have an indomitable spirit. We are everywhere and we know how to shine. I am proud to be a Jamaican; I am honored to be apart of a culture that has impacted the world in a tremendous way. We have left an indelible mark on music, athletics, food, fashion, the arts, science. We were the first nation to voice our disagreement and displeasure with apartheid in South Africa! We took that step and the world followed. We are natural born leaders; it's in our DNA!

The 2020 Olympics was yet another opportunity to remind the world that we may be small but we are MIGHTY. We are not just happy to be there; we came to win! The black, green and gold flew high and proud and it was thrilling to witness! We made history by having the first woman to ever achieve the DOUBLE DOUBLE! Elaine Thompson-Herah successfully defended her 100m and 200m titles. What a time to be alive; what a time to be a Jamaican!

Jamaica has so much to offer and there is so much to emulate. If you should choose one thing; it should be our spirit. As you navigate your life and make choices about your dreams; embody the spirit of power, passion and purpose. Tell yourself you want it; you will have it; believe it and then go get it! Let no one's opinion dissuade you. Let no challenges shake you. In times of doubt, look in the mirror and remind yourself; you are Tallawah!

To my fellow Jamaicans let's continue to do our homeland proud; represent our island well! Be ambassadors of one of the most impactful brands on earth! Wear the black, green and gold with pride. If anyone should dare to question why you are here; remind them that you come from a history of warriors; a lineage of movers, shakers and history makers. Never underestimate us; cause we likkle but we Tallawah!
