We also unpack the blatant homophobia on Love Is Blind and give our critiques. The Pelvic Freak Show
Our Work Out Routines, Passion Burnout, and Hunting Wives

We start off this week’s ‘sode with a quick chat about The Hunting Wives - don’t worry, no spoilers (Amanda hasn’t even finished it yet). Then we dive into a listener question that inspired this week’s topic: “What are your full workout routines as pelvic floor PTs?” We share what our workout schedules look like on a perfect week… and then what actually happens when life is just… life-ing. (because let’s be honest, consistency is hard, none of us have it all together, and don’t make us feel guilty about it!!).

That conversation naturally leads us into a deeper topic: passion burnout. The current state of the world can make it hard to feel joy or motivation - and sometimes makes us feel guilty when we do. We talk about how that impacts our hobbies and everyday life and how we can face it and start finding some balance again.

The Pelvic Freak Show
Would You Rather, Scar Pain, and Scar Tissue Treatment

We start off this episode today with a spicy/hilariously stupid would you rather - Pelvic Freak edition (no literally I died editing this haha). I don't want to spoil this for you so you're going to have to listen.

Then, we dive into a discussion on what scar tissue is, why scars can become numb or hypersensitive, and how to heal them with PT. Even the smallest scars that you don’t think are related to your pelvic floor could be impacting your chronic pain (it’s crazy- but we can help). We also touch on perineal tears, since this is also a form of scar tissue we treat, and discuss the term “The C-Section Shelf”. Overall, this is an episode for anyone who has a scar, you’re welcome!!

Pelvic Floor PTs with Anxiety: Embracing the Anxious and Awkward with Kay Mastrocola, PT, DPT

Becoming a pelvic floor PT isn’t just about learning how to treat, it’s also about learning to embrace the awkward and anxious as well. Welcome Kay Mastrocola to The Pelvic Freak Show! Kay is a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist and mental health meme maker. With over 32,000 followers she bridges the gap between higher education and healthcare by making light of all of the anxious, awkward and inbetweens. Her humor, vulnerability and honesty has brought her to local, state and national stages and now to our podcast.

In this episode, we discuss the debate between APTA vs. Herman & Wallace courses, what “gold standard” education even means in our field, and common mental health barriers we face as PTs (like burnout and imposter syndrome). Of course we share our favorite awkward and anxious moments we’ve faced as PTs as well. Tune in if any of this intrigues you, if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the professional path of pelvic health PT, or even if you’re also just a little neurospicy like the rest of us.

xoxo, hannah, amanda, kay

Decentering Men

We’ve seen the phrase “decentering men” trending lately- and we’re not mad about it. Listen to this week’s episode to hear how we’ve learned to decenter men, why it’s important, and how you can too (even if you’re in a relationship with a man).

This episode isn’t about hating men, it’s about challenging the patriarchy and shifting focus back to yourself. Listen to the full ‘sode to see how we connect this mindset into pelvic health of course. Let us know in the comments examples of how you practice decentering men because we always love to hear from our pelvic freaks :)

The Pelvic Freak Show
Body Shaming in Healthcare (feat. The Biggest Loser Documentary)

Amanda watched Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser and we have some things to SAY about it (ofc we do, you know us). In this episode, we share our takes on the documentary and how we think the show influenced society’s views on weight loss, health, and fitness. We also talk about why we love Physical Therapy and how it helped us step away from the idea that “success” in health and fitness = being thin. PT taught us that true success isn’t about a number on the scale- it’s about feeling safe in your body, moving with ease, and living without shame. If you are someone listening to this episode and have ever struggled with weight and feeling comfortable in your own skin, just know both of us can relate and we are here for you! You are beautiful in your own body and we can’t wait for y’all to listen.

Being a People Pleaser is Ruining Your Sex Life

Why Being a People Pleaser is Ruining Your Sex Life

People pleasing may be cock-blocking your sex life and we are here to talk about it. In this episode, we are breaking down how people-pleasing habits show up in the bedroom (and everywhere else), why it’s a problem, and how to start putting your own needs and desires first, without guilt. (It actually might make both you AND your partner have a better time). We talk the importance of boundaries, communication, and why “just wanting everyone else to be happy” might be sabotaging your own satisfaction.

Time to stop faking it (in every sense).

Is It Really "Dead Bugs Out, Sit Ups In"? Let’s Talk About the New Diastasis Recti Study

We’ve seen headlines on instagram saying “dead bugs out, sit ups in” for postpartum core work when treating abdominal separation, but what does the evidence really say? In this episode, we live react to the journal article “Effects of conservative approaches for treating diastasis recti abdominis in postpartum women: A systematic review and meta-analysis” that came out this summer.

We break down what the research actually says (hint: it’s more nuanced than a headline), why new studies on women’s health are exciting and necessary, and how we can move away from fear-based fitness advice toward evidence-informed care. We love that we are finally getting some more research on this topic! Whether you're a postpartum person, a pelvic freak, or just here for the tea on Diastasis treatment.. this one’s for you.

The Love Island Effect: Misogyny, Trolls, and Why Social Media Feels Like Sh*t for Women

Let’s have a real talk this week, pelvic freaks. Everyone and their mom has been watching Love Island this summer. The drama? Unhinged. The toxicity? Off the charts. And our feeds? Absolutely flooded.

But watching the way people talk about these reality TV stars online got us fired up. Why do people feel entitled to treat women like public property just because they’re on a screen? The hate, the trolling, the cruelty... it’s gotten out of control and it's way too normalized nowadays.

In this episode, we unpack the way social media has become a breeding ground for misogyny, especially when it comes to cancel culture. Women get ripped apart for existing, while men glide by with barely a scratch. Why is it that women always take the hardest hits online?

We talk about how this culture affects our own confidence, how we move through the world, and what it means to keep showing up in a space that doesn’t always feel safe.

One Year of Pelvic Freakery: The Anniversary Episode That Made Us Cry

What started as a side project between two new coworkers just trying to spread the word about pelvic health has turned into something way bigger than we ever imagined. Welcome to our one-year anniversary episode!

Today, we re-listen to our very first episode (yes, we cringed a little bit..), reflect on how far we’ve come, and share the highs, lows, and lessons from our first year. We talk about our favorite guests, read our favorite Pelvic Freak Story Time submissions, and get real about what we’re manifesting for year two.

Before you ask... yes tears were shed in the making of this episode. We are so thankful for you, pelvic freaks. We couldn't do it without you. Thank you for all the support for our content and also watching our friendship bloom this past year :')

xoxo, Hannah & Amanda

Summer of Self Touch: Intro to Masturbation

The bush is back, baby! Yep, you heard us. Let’s talk about it. For whatever reason, there’s always buzz around what we’re doing with our pubic hair. Fully bare? Full bush? Somewhere in between? The truth is, you get to do whatever the hell you want with your body as long as it makes you feel good and confident.

Amanda shares her laser hair removal journey, Hannah spills her go-to shaving techniques, and then we dive into a much-needed convo about masturbation. Why we think it’s important, how to get started if it feels awkward or unfamiliar, and ways to make it more pleasurable. We’re sharing tips, tricks, and personal insights because it is the summer of self-touch after all. Newsflash! Masturbation isn’t just for people with penises!

Then we’re talking ethical porn and the importance of supporting sex workers, something we care deeply about on this pod. We also dive into other masturbation resources that can be useful for you and your summer of self touch pleasure journey. Enjoy!
