This is not a coffee podcast, at least not in the traditional sense, but in this show, we explore the lives and passions of people from all walks of life around the world who have nailed their niche, and how they integrate the love of coffee into their lifestyle. The Nomad Barista started as a project to uncover the stories, inspirations, and challenges of passionate coffee professionals all over the globe, and I'm now expanding from the blog and Youtube channel to share conversations through long-form podcast content!

017 Nordic Coffee Fest – Coffee’s Global Trends and Cultural Traditions: What to preserve and what to let go…

Brought to you by Wacaco, a brand of portable espresso makers that are completely hand-powered. I use their gear, including coffee brewers, hand grinders and scales on all my coffee adventures.

In this episode, I’m sharing a recording of a short talk I gave not too long ago at Nordic Coffee Fest in Sweden.

The topic is one I’ve been exploring more and more lately and it is the Global Trends and Cultural Traditions of coffee around the world, and particularly how we can honour and preserve some of the things that made coffee what it is today, while we move forward as an industry.

For those interested visuals that go along with the talk, I’ve uploaded the slides to my website so you can go take a look at your leisure here:

016 Oskar Garberg – Standout Coffee: Swedish Coffee Culture, Competition Style Coffees, Building Community, and Striving for Coffee Excellence

Oskar Garberg is the CEO and Co-founder of Standout Coffee in Stockholm along with Alexander Ruas. This episode is actually a repost from their podcast, making me the guest this time around, so we touch on how my journey into coffee was heavily linked with my love for skateboarding, cycling, and exploration in general.

That said, I had a chance to ask Oskar some questions about their roastery, and we dive into a bit about coffee competitions, building community, coffee processing, and striving for excellence as a brand.

Check out their podcast for more great interviews with other Coffeepreneurs, and take a peek at their web shop for a taste of we were drinking!

Alex Dantes-Smith is a coffee content creator, an esteemed salesman, and a good friend. We finally had a chance for a quick chat for the podcast during Nordic Coffee Fest in Gothenburg.

When we met, he was working with Ember Mugs and now represents Fellow Products in Europe and beyond, so I was curious to pick his brain about his sales process in the coffee industry as well as his approach to making coffee content online.

Cole Torode is the co-owner of Rosso Coffee Roasters in Calgary, Alberta, Founder and Head of Coffee and Operations at Forward Specialty Green Coffee Importers. In this episode, I share a slightly older conversation with Cole from December 2020. We continue the ongoing conversation about experimental fermentations in coffee processing, how we can talk about them, and discuss good examples from a mutual coffee producing colleague, Samuel Ronzon, and what he's doing on his farm in Veracruz, Mexico. For my conversation with Sammy in Spanish (with subtitles), check out our video chat on YouTube.
