The Melbourne Flow Podcast
The Melbourne Flow Podcast - Episode 23 pt 1 and 2 - Tedsthetics - Social Media Masterclass

Social Media Masterclass | North American Vs Australian Influencers | How to Actually Gain Followers

In episode 23 parts 1 and 2, we will be discussing a really important issue and topic of why are North American influencers growing at a fast rate and gaining lots of followers. Also, this is the case for social media stars from the UK. There is definitely a different approach by people overseas, they seem to set up a group chat and plan out their videos and content strategy. They will make lots of videos in 1 week that will be published over a few weeks and months.   It is very interesting to see how influencers treat each other and collaborate. Here in Australia, it seems many are out for themselves and worry about another person overtaking them. If someone has 10,000 followers, they don't want to collaborate with someone that has 2,000 or 3,000 because there is no benefit to them.   We will also discuss how creators steal from each other and take an idea for themselves, we have had personal experience with this. Teddy will share how hard he works on content and the time it takes to make a short video or long one. Even the short videos can take 40 minutes to get right and perfect. Whenever you see a video published, such as a podcast, it is easy to be critical of what is said or to the hosts, but try to remember the effort that has gone into the video.  You will learn about the differences between Instagram and TikTok growth, and the data behind the videos. Teddy will share his views on monetisation and brand deals, which ones should creators accept and not do. Also, how people respond to certain collaborations and the hate Teddy received. Teddy also shares the hate and types of comments he has gotten over the years of creating videos on TikTok. There are many people who hate because they have issues in their life or just love to be confrontational. People have come up to Teddy in real life, giving him their thoughts and opinions, it is crazy! Before you start a social media platform and want to be famous, you want to think if it is right for you or not. You need to have systems in place and a mindset that is ready for the worst types of comments. Sadly, these comments are not just directed towards the creator but people will mention things about the creator's family.

The Melbourne Flow Podcast - Episode 22 with Discernable's founder, Matthew Wong

On this podcast, I spoke with the creator of Discernable, Matthew Wong. Matthew Wong is an inspirational person who worked several high-level professions including being a pilot, medicine, law, along with selling multiple businesses. In typical Melbourne Flow fashion, we spoke about a wide range of subjects including:
- why Matthew started his channel and why he left those desirable professions.
- how governments use a limbic system response to trigger you to take certain actions
- different diets including the Japanese blue zone diet and its effect on lifespan.
- vaccines and people’s hesitation toward the vaccine.
- Dan Andrew's approach to lockdown and his legislation (again!)
- how lockdown has caused a boom in the E-commerce market
- how governments need to set natural laws and positive laws including how the UN has made positive laws out of natural laws and how they can improve.
- how the Facebook and YouTube algorithm should work.
- how religion for some people takes precedent over government; as some communities (certain Christian, Jewish, and Islamic sects) as they have a different orientation of religion and they were told the consequences of not doing the rituals are way harsher than law-abiding punishments of government.

Fable is proudly headquartered on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, with a development kitchen in Melbourne, Victoria, and works closely with our co-manufacturers in Malaysia and sauce manufacturers in Melbourne, Victoria.

For those of you who don’t know about Jim & Chris Jim is Chief Mycological Officer at Fable Food, he worked as a fine-dining chef in Texas for 10 Years. Wanting to understand the science behind the food he was cooking, with a young family in tow he moved to California and went to study Chemical Engineering and Agricultural Science. Chris is Chief Product Officer at Fable Food, initially studied entrepreneurship, and enamored with the agricultural industry. The Melbourne Flow Podcast - Episode 18 Mindset Motivation – Glen Flood’s Success Secrets

Glenn’s depth of experience, industry credibility and media insight make him a true alchemist in the realm of food. His leadership, innovation and dedication were forged in the heat of the kitchen environment. He is passionate about helping you and your business thrive. Glenn began his cooking career in Sydney where the frenetic energy, fresh produce and intensity immediately drew him in.

During his apprenticeship he was introduced to ‘competitive’ cooking in which he excelled, being awarded Apprentice of the Year 1998. Glenn’s thirst for knowledge took him to five-star hotels, the ski fields of Canada and eventually the Michelin starred ‘Harvey’s Restaurant’ in England, where he honed his techniques under French chef Daniel Galmiche. He absorbed a wealth of insight from Daniels’ colleagues - the likes of Heston Blumenthal, Gordon Ramsay, and Michel Roux Jnr. Arriving back in Australia, the food culture of Melbourne immediately embraced him – proximity to produce, passionate suppliers, an entrepreneurial mindset – all of it felt right.

He joined Tobie Puttock and Jamie Oliver during the launch of Fifteen Melbourne as Training and Development Chef. Surrounded by TV cameras, high profile chefs and a cohort of young apprentices was exactly the challenge he needed to thrive as a culinary trainer and mentor. He assisted the recruitment of judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston for MasterChef Australia, which completely changed the landscape of food in this country.

Glenn is all about creating the right mindset and strategy to help you and your team thrive. His motivating attitude, passion for food and zest for life will continue to be an inspiration to the clients he works with every day.

The Melbourne Flow Podcast
The Melbourne Flow Podcast - Episode 17 with Dr. Rachael Burgin - Fighting the "GAG" Law

On this episode of The Melbourne Flow Podcast, I am joined by Dr. Rachael Burgin. Dr/ Burgin is a lecturer at Swinburne Law School and an Executive Director of Rape and Sexual Assault Research and Advocacy (RASARA). She attained her PhD in 2019 from Monash University. Her thesis explored the ways that affirmative sexual consent has been adopted into law and translated into legal practice in rape trials.

In Feb 2020, the Victorian State Government passed a bill making it an offence for rape and sexual assault victims and survivors in Victoria to publish their own identities. This also applied to deceased victims - meaning if the grieving family wanted to go to the papers or social media with the story, they couldn't. Any victims and survivors who did take their story public with personally identifying information could of faced fines of up to $3,000 and potentially 4 months in jail. It was also an offence for others (including media) to publish the identity of a victim-survivor, or information which could lead to the identification of a victim-survivor.

Dr. Burgin in her role with RASARA, joined forces with Marque Lawyers, and End Rape On Campus Australia to successfully overturn the law through the  #LetUsSpeak/ #LetHerSpeak campaign (which was started by survivor advocate and journalist Nina Funnell).

On this podcast Dr. Burgin takes us through her journey, explains why this "Gag" law infringes on the rights of sexual abuse and rape survivors, and her involvement with the #LetUsSpeak campaign.

We filmed this podcast before the news broke today (Nov 18 2020) about the Gag Law being reversed! So.... A HUGE congratulations to RASARA, Marque Lawyers, End Rape On Campus and everyone invovled with the #LetUsSpeak campain on successfully overturning the Bill and reversing the "Gag" law!

The Melbourne Flow Podcast - Episode 16 with Discernable Official - Matthew Wong

With Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews pushing a new omnibus law, the ever-smart Matt Wong from Discernable Official jumps onto the podcast to explain how the changes to this omnibus law will impact our rights in Melbourne, and as Victorian citizens.

Matt went viral as the Melbourne lockdown (along with the coronavirus in Victoria) hit its straps and a new State of Emergency law was proposed by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews team. This amendment was then subsequently approved through Victorian parliament - which was a milestone in Melbourne and Victoria as it had some subtle but very important changes that would impact how we operate as a state. Matt made videos explaining how these changes impact our rights and delivered complex law in a simple, articulate, and consumable way.
