3 Keys to Authentic Connection
You can create genuine connections with people by using these 3 subtle yet critical mindsets! It has fundamentally changed my ability to meet and interact joyfully with many kinds of people! Filmed on location in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand.

.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

While traveling last month, I was thinking about some of the keys to authentic connection.

For most of my youth, it felt like I was disconnected from people even though I was trying hard to connect and communicate.

Where was the block – was it with me or with others? And what was the block about?

Well, in this episode, I share some of the keys I discovered when I did my healing journey in my mid-20’s which created amazing connections in my 30’s and beyond.

It has helped me to meet and interact genuinely and joyfully with so many people.

Hint: these keys are not about learning social cues or social skills.

I recorded this on one of the beaches of Koh Phi Phi. It’s a bit noisier than my living room but I managed to do most of it in between the longtail boat noises…

Wishing you many blessings on this journey of self-realization…

The Magic of Compassion with Little Woo
When you give & give but lack support in return
“What to do when you feel betrayed or disappointed by people very close to you? When you support others, but then when you need support, they don’t do the same in return?” This is the first part of a question I received…
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

The rest of their question goes like this:
“When you focus a lot on doing for others who are close to you, or even acquaintances, helping and giving, but others seem almost completely self-focused?
I have this weird existential feeling along with these questions. When i help people and do a lot of acts of service, show up for people, etc., I tend to feel very connected to people, my bonds are strong and i belong to my group/community/the world/the universe. But when i am the one who is burned out, sick, in a weak position, i can feel alone with it, and become judgmental of people in my life, thinking they don’t have the same amount of empathy or make the same effort as i would…
I know I have an issue with over-stretching myself and over-doing, and I tend towards my comfort zone of being “the strong one” so feel far less comfortable receiving. Maybe this is linked?”
How to Deal With Disappointment from Lack of Reciprocity or Appreciation
Our purpose and our identity are often built upon our principles, values and life choices. That is our output. That is what we do or how we try to show up in the world. It is a combination of our presence and our actions.
To balance our output, we tend to look for feedback or input.
First, we may look at how we are impacting the world through our presence or actions. That feedback becomes another layer of our identity and it may match our purpose or it may NOT!
So, our perceived impact on others can fuel our purpose or drain our purpose. It can validate or invalidate our self-worth if our efforts don’t seem to bring the results that we want.
Secondly, we may look at how the world responds to our presence or actions. This is how people treat us or how they feel about us. If we’ve been very generous with others yet they don’t seem to care, appreciate or support us, then it can feel like a one-way street. It can feel like a betrayal or a disappointment.
DISILLUSIONMENT happens when we feel such a deep betrayal or repeated disappointment that it actually changes our worldview. It’s when we abandon our values because our experiences seem to show that they don’t matter. It may feel like you have woken up from a con game and you feel duped or used.  You never want to be so idealistic again so you feel like throwing out your principles and your compassion.
TRANSFORMING DISILLUSIONMENT OR DISAPPOINTMENT:
Your Principles Matter…
If you conceived of something good, beautiful or meaningful, it is worth doing – for YOU, for the benefit of Humanity and for the Universe…
Even if the reality is that a lot of people don’t seem to appreciate, notice or reciprocate, you can continue doing it for YOU. Think of your kindness and generosity as expressions of your soul. It’s less about them and more about honoring yourself.
Your Well-Being Matters…
Sometimes, your principles and values may lead you to sacrifice your time, money and energy in order to help others.  However, if your output is causing SELF-HARM, this kind of generosity is unsustainable and probably enabling some type of unhealthy dynamic.  As the saying goes: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
e.g. when a parent continually helps out their adult children out of recurring debts…enabling their habits an...

Letting go of cherished people and places to let in the new
Sometimes, you need to let go of places, people and things that you care about in order to create or experience new horizons. It’s not about abandoning; it’s about releasing for a higher purpose. Here are 3 practices that can be applied to different situations to help you release with love!
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

The person who sent me this question was referring to their situation of moving to a new country and city for their career even though that meant leaving behind so many dear friends and a city that she loved.
It was not an easy decision but it felt right to her.  Nevertheless, she wanted to approach this situation mindfully so she asked if I would do a video on this.
Hope you will find some inspiration here!
Wishing you many blessings on this journey of self-realization…

Finding Your Power After Feeling Disempowered
Have you ever felt like “Life is happening to you” but wanted to regain the sense that “you are in control of your life”?

The Doubt Monster
It’s natural to have doubts when we want to do something outside of our comfort or success zone! Today, Mr. Ribbit is my special guest as we talk about how to deal with Doubt Monsters…

Ventriloquism has been a curiosity of mine since childhood. (I share that story in this article)
Lately, I’ve had the desire to have some puppet friends join me on occasional episodes of The Magic of Compassion. However, I wanted to ensure that the tone and content did not become trivial or gimmicky. Some doubt entered my mind so I didn’t do it til now.
Today, I felt the compulsion to visit with Mr. Ribbit so I chose to trust that our exchange would be authentic and meaningful.
Sending you lots of positive vibes to honor your visions despite the doubts that you may feel!

What’s the deal with Procrastination?
You might have heard the phrase “putting the Pro in procrastination?” It’s one of those universal life skills (haha) that we all seem to master at one point in life or another! On a more serious note, it can be a debilitating feeling to put something off that we actually care about so in this talk, we’ll take a look at this type of inner resistance and I’ll share a few ways you can work through it!
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

What have you been procrastinating about that you would like to put some energy into?
For me, I was procrastinating around the writing of the Unicorn Principles book.
While I was shepherding a few community projects this past winter, spring and summer (one of which is on-going), focusing on my Sacred Dream clients, exploring jogging plus hiking, attending summertime festivals and events, visiting family and enjoying some downtime in the woods with my sweetheart Shane, I didn’t feel like I had the bandwidth to write!
But as the summer wrapped up, I’ve reconfigured my energy and have been writing.
Though my writing muscles are rather sluggish after mainly doing videos the last 3 years and the writing is going very slowly, I am fully committed to the journey and even enjoying the quiet process of sitting down at my laptop to get into a magical writing mode!
Sending you lots of positive vibes to put some love into what has been waiting for you…

FOMO from being Sick for a long time
Dealing with a long-term illness is tough enough but you can also feel the pain of missing out on Life and feel a sense of loss, grief and unfulfillment. Today, I’d like to share a perspective that will help you find a new focus and meaning from this extremely challenging experience.
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

My heart goes out to all those who are dealing with a serious condition or illness. I hope you will have the energy and faith to see this as an initiation into deeper self-discovery, healing and transformation. Many people (myself included) have found that our illness was actually a great catalyst for an imporant spiritual awakening. It can inspire many internal changes that will reconnect you to your soul purpose and facilitate other levels of healing both emotional and physical.  May you go inward for your own soul’s guidance and go outward to find help from those who will understand the depth of your journey…

How to do the thing that scares you
Sometimes, we have to do things that scare us in order to create or grow.  Here are some steps to overcome the fear so you will feel inspired to take risks, go out of your comfort zone and honor your dreams!
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

Last week, Shane and I went camping and for our final day, we’d booked a 3-hour surfing lesson near Tofino on Vancouver Island.
Leading up to the lesson, I felt some resistance about being in the cold Pacific Ocean for hours. I knew we would be given wetsuits but didn’t know how well they would work. I prefer bathwater-temperatures of the tropical oceans that I’ve gone diving in… For a brief moment, I thought about cancelling the lesson and save my surfing adventures for warmer places.  Hehe.
This adventure was a little outside of my comfort zone because I tend to get cold easily. (One day, I plan to take the Iceman’s course on how to train your body to withstand very cold temperatures). Though I wasn’t afraid, I was somewhat apprehensive about being very cold, wet and uncomfortable for 3 hours.
Sometimes, the desire to be comfortable can hold us back.
Thankfully, I chose to do the lesson anyway because I was curious about cold-water surfing and wanted to practice overcoming my dislike of cold water.  (In the previous 4 days, I’d practiced a bit of cold water swimming while we were camping on Hornby Island but that was for a short duration.)
To my surprise, they gave us high quality wetsuits that worked like a charm so we stayed warm throughout our lesson!!
It was an absolutely blissful reward to play in the refreshing salt water at one of the most beautiful beaches of Vancouver Island.  As a mermaid who has spent a lot of time on land, it felt so good to be back in the ocean…

4 Types of Everyday Courage
Sometimes, we get stuck in patterns of fear and Everyday Courage is needed to transform blocks which range from procrastination, self-censorship, avoidance, dishonesty to denial.
Everyday Courage is often underrated but there is a powerful life force that gets summoned when we activate 4 types of bravery…
This video is dedicated to the heroic Sun Yi of “Letter from Masanjia” – a quiet unassuming man whose epic courage combined with an American mom’s courage to act – helped shut down a massive slave labor camp in China. For more info about the film or screenings in your city: https://www.facebook.com/letterfrommasanjia/

How to Handle a Loved One’s Depression as an Empath or Highly Sensitive Person
In this week’s training, I look at how an empath (who is also a recovering rescuer), can handle it when a loved one is experiencing depression! May these 2 energetic practices help you avoid getting into a rescuer pattern while also honoring your empathy and sensitivity! (These can be practiced by anyone who is sensitive to other people’s feelings or any kind of suffering.)
In truth, most people are naturally sensitive but have found different ways to work with their sensitivity. Some coping mechanisms are healthy and some aren’t sustainable. I hope these 2 practices will bring some light into the situation and shift the pattern for you in a healing way!  It’s a gift to be sensitive but it can feel like a heavy burden when you are reeling from the effects of it!!
